Re: Interview & Feature Article.
Dear Jeri - How womderful to receive your message! I have missed
hearing from you,
know you've been very busy! Thanks so much for taking of your time
to write to me!
It would be a great honor and unexpected pleasure to be interviewed
by you concerning the Howard Robard Hugfhes story and promotion of
work to establish
a memorial to this great man in his home city of Houston, Texas.
Jeri, I was very touched to visit his grave and find so great a
figure in our history lying in a practically unmarked grave. This
gave me resolve to look into the circumstances of his life and death,
and to arrive at some shocking revelations and conclusions. So much
has been distorted and even falsified about the facts of his life and
death that I feel a great duty
to do all that I can to set the record straight. Great controversy
surrounds the story,
and misinformation/disinformation passed on by powerful political and
financial figures
have created a maze of confusion that is almost impossible to pierce
has been established But material of record (in the public domain)
difficult (but not impossible to
obtain) has enabled me to write the book "The Analytical American
History of the Life and Times of Howard Robard Hughes, even without
the cooperation of key figures and
institutions (GLOMAR FOR ONE, CLIFFORD IiRVING FOR ANOTHER). Just
getting information about the Congressional Gold Medal Award was a
nearly impossible task
and could not have been accomplished without the assistances of
Senators Phil Gramm and Kay Bailey Hutchison and, incredibly to say,
President Clinton. Lately there have been major TV programs about the
strange, mysterious Deep Sea Exploration Vessel.
Hughes Glomar Explorer-whose existence GLOMAR denied knowing anything
about
during my many inquiries over several years of time. Despite all of
my research, I have to admit that much remains a mystery that may
never be solved because of the nature
of the circumstances that brought about the whole sad saga in the
first place. Many of the principal characters are now dead; those
remaining alive are not cooperative in
giving information. I am very grateful for the care and concern that
you have shown,
and send my most sincere high regards and best wishes to you and yours
Most Sincerely Van J Simmons jr

PS my plans for the club program is to start a publication intended
for wide general cieculation. priceeds devoted to establishing the
memorial. We need a good caricature/cartoomist artist, writer and
book binding, distribution, and board of directors
tteam to manage the project . I am proposing to bring about an
important opinion molding project in the traditional American style
of Benjamin Franklin (and his
"Poor Richard's Almanac") AND Thomas Paine and his "Commonsense'
(programs
very influential in forming public opinion among those early Americac
Colonists who brought about the American Revolution.. Pipe Drean??
Maybe, but I'm Serious!
God Bless You1 Van
