I was just playing the guessing game on posornot.com and nearly all the
poz ppl there have suffered discrimination from not only other ppl but
from their drs as well. I never knew it was such a widespread
problem. I have even had one ER dr call an infectious disease dr at a
larger hospital I see a specialist at and say that he didn't know why I
came to his hospital they can't help my kind.. Oh I was at the ER due
to an allergic reaction to shellfish. I thought that it was happening
to me because this is a small town and ignorance is rampant here. They
still have the ignorance is bliss theory. Any way I want to do
something about this but I am not sure how to approach this or who to
approach. We suffer enough without having ppl who are supposed to be
here to help turn on us. I don't think we should have to tolerate
this.

Greetings,

First. RELAX and Get a hold of yourself. Being in so fragmented does not help
at all.

Second, Get tested and get it over with.

I found out that I am positive Jan. 8th, 2008 while in the hospital with near
terminal bacterial pneumonia (not PCP). When the doctor came in and told me I
was positive, I had him recheck the results. At the time my pneumonia (disease
and treatment) was masking any kind of accurate blood testing. It took them
nearly a week to stabilize me before they could confirm that I was positive.

It would appear I was asymptomatic for nearly 10 years. If I did not get the
flu and pneumonia, I would have never known. They figure I was positive for the
last 8-10years. My initial viral count was 2.9 Million (yes million) and Tcell
count of 20.

My partner of 8 years is very supportive of me and watches over me like a
mother hen. I have been on meds since March and my viral is now undetectable and
Tcell up to 240. I will not say it has been a piece of cake being on the meds. I
have had my good days and bad and a few worse days thrown in to the mix. But I
am now better for it all. My partner just recently got tested to see if he is
positive. Crossing fingers for him.

Ironically I can trace my possible conversion to two means. Through my fisting
buddies or my partner's blood transfusions around 1995. The fisting is most
likely because I work with birds and animals and usually have some kind of
cut/bite on my forearms and hands. Either way I have made peace with being
positive and with myself.

Get tested and get connected with others who are positive (either online or in
person). Believe me it helps out a whole lot. There are alot of us out there
willing and wanting to help you out. It will take time and patience.

I am open to talk with you or anyone. :)

   Drew

Team Plus, orgaized for HIV people in the Gay Games came up with a
multi colored PLUS sign. It can be found on the home page

A differant group I worked with used the morphius sign in red showing
no ending and no begining but a constant

Please, I urge you to get tested. Nowadays, the only people that die are those
who don't
get tested and therefore don't receive treatment. They end up in the hospital
with next to
no T-cells. The symptoms you describe scream loudly to me that you may have the
HIV
virus. With treatment, you would end up with a chronic disease and need to be
monitored
and take some medication. If you have the virus and don't get treatment, the
consequences could be devastating. Please, I beg you to get tested now!!! If the
HIV tests
shows that you have the virus, I strongly suggest you find a doctor who
specializes in this
disease. He must have a lot of specialized knowledge that the average physician
does not
have. If you test positive, I also caution you not to over-react. Stress is
harmful to your
body. My HIV doctor has told me not to worry. He says that with medication I can
expect
to die of old age. I have a personal goal of living well into my 90's. I always
stick to safe
sex and my sex life at age 64 is fantastic!

Dear Jari,

My name is Scott and I'm from Las Vegas (soon relocating) and I
want to tell you that this is not the end of the world. I have had the virus for
five years now and I am as strong as an ox without medication. However I know
that it is very difficult to be isolated with the virus among those who are free
of this stigma. Last year I met a woman who was HIV negative and had so many
qualities that I desired it was not even funny- then the nightmare of disclosure
and a destroyed relationship. I'm over it now but even though I can deal with
the pain (now) I still yearn for a friend. Jari, I want you to do one thing, for
yourself---- do not give up and make the most of your life, this is only a
virus. And be careful of others with this situation- there are some bad ones out
there. You are a good sister and I will pray for you tonight----remember--- be
strong, I am and if you need I friend to talk to I am here. It's only a virus!

All the best,

Hi,

I will tell you my personal experience. I was just diagnosed Feb 12
of this year. I was infected on Dec 23, 2007. On January 4, 1998
(almost 2 weeks after infection) I got sick. It felt like a flu. No
coughing or sneezing or congestion, just extreme fatigue, body aches
and a slight fever and some diarrhea. When it went on for a couple
days I went to the ER and they just ran standard blood tests and
sent me on my way with a dignosis of a viral infection. They told me
to let it run it's course. Two days later I felt better as far as
the flu-like symptoms were concerned but overnight I had developed a
horrible rash on my chest, upper arms, sides and upper back. It did
not itch and it was not 'raised'. I thought that this was a weird
symtom of a viral infection so I went to my regular Dr. He thought I
had measles or mumps although ultimately he was truely baffled. I
said to him half jokingly, "you know, this kinda resembles the
infamous HIV rash you hear about". Well, I could see the lightbulb
going off in his head. I was fine with him doing the test but knew
it would be negative because I have a two year old daughter and had
a test before her birth that was negative and since then I have been
in a committed relationship and am about to be married to the man of
my dreams. He reminded me that men (and women) can and do cheat and
not to be naive. Anyway, later that week I got a call from that Dr
who then sent me straight to the hospital to be admitted for
possible Leukemia becuase my regular bloodwork showed extremely low
white blood cell and platelet count. Later that evening when the
oncologist came in to examine me I asked him if the HIV test had
came back from my primary Dr and he looked throught the chart and
said yes, but it shows an indeterminate result. He explained to me
that whatever infection was going on in my body could be causing
that result and to just check again in 6mo to be sure. It turned out
not to be Leukemia and I was sent home. In the midst of all the
confusion I asked my fiance to get tested and he gladly obliged. Two
weeks later he delievered the devastating news that he was positive.
I knew then and there that I was as well. You see, that is how I
know the date I was infected. If you have done research then you
know that when you get an indeterminte result it only means two
things. 1. That you will end up negative or 2. That you are newly
infected and you have not seroconverted (meaning not enough of the
virus is present to be completely accurate). So, I went back to my
Dr and demanded another test but he said that it may be a waste of
time if I still hadn't seroconverted. He said that I would need an
RNA test done that directly measures how much HIV is in your system
but those are hard to get done if you aren't documented yet as being
positive. He pulled some strings since my fiance was pos and got us
in to an infectious disease Dr later that week. Two weeks later it
was discovered that I had a viral load of 19,000, his 600,000. I
chose to start meds immediately even though I was newly diagnosed
and I am proud to say I am almost undetectable, which means, whole I
will always test positive for the virus, I almost have no sign of
the virus in me. My fiance is doing well too. Oh, and no, he hadn't
cheated on me. He was able to trace it back to his ex-wife, 8 years
ago. It is not the end of thw world, so yes, I will tell you to get
tested although it isn't what you want to hear. I don't drink, smoke
or do drugs and have never been primiscuous but I am NOT better than
you or the next person. I am a mother of 2 beautiful girls and a
wonderful fiance and have a big supportive family so I am very
fortunate. Getting tested WILL be the best decision you can make.
The meds have not made me sick, although the first regimen gave me a
mild rash. My fiance has diarrhea ever so often but that is all.
Keep in mind that not everyone gets ill when they are newly infected
like I did (which is called the Acute Retroviral Syndrome). My
fiance thinks he had it for about 8 years and the only thing that he
can remember was a stomach type virus a year ago that lingered for
almost 3 weeks. Other than that he never would have put 2 and 2
together. If you would like to email me, feel free to, no questions
are off limits. I hope to hear from you soon. Sorry this was so
long.

How about a three pronged (?) leaf leaf with the aids ribbon representing the

The only thing I can say is: GET TESTED!!!!

I understand the fear, we all have shared it. However, it is not the
end of the orld if you do test positive. I was tested for the first
time in Jan. 2007 and didn't really think I had anything to be scared
about. I thought I had cancer, just turned out to be a full-blown
case of AIDS. I have survived receiving the news due to the grace of
God, family, and friends. Believe me when I say there are far worst
things out there then HIV.

Good luck and may God be with you!!

thought, hoped,it was always gonna turn into a monogamous
relationship. To my dismay, most, nearly all, but a few, were one
night to two week stands. All my life, people say YOU MUST JUST GET
TESTED, and i really understand this. But I have had severe anxiety
and depression almost all of my life.{yes, i have been, still am,
and will probably always be medicated.} I am just so scared to
likely hear the words"you are positive" I think I would truly lose
touch w/ reality and become psychotic. My only defense is that w/o
being tested, I will have horrible anxiety, but I will live for a
longer while knowing, I MIGHT not have it. Or, soon I may just get
so sick that I will have to face it. It always seems that when
people find out, some miracle from God happens and they actually
start living to their fullest and appreciating life more. How do I
know if this would happen to me? I don't think it would. PLEASE
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME and don't tell me to get tested and the
reasons why, and that I could live longer on medication. I already
Know that. And I am in a long-term committed relationship, so if I
have it, I am not going around spreading it. My boyfriend knows all
of this and is ok w/ it. He is not scared like I am, and he knows I
think I have it.I just want someone to tell me, with all I have
said, if they think I have it. Just someones opinion that knows
about it.Or, could someone tell me what they went through when they
found out they had it, how long they have had it and what there
symptoms, or what were they and are they now with or w/o medication?
PLEASE, I will so much appreciate any answers or information. Thank
you so much!

Study Suggests Benefits for Patients With Autoimmune Diseases and
Heart Disease
By Salynn Boyles
http://www.webmd.com/news/20080226/adult-stem-cell-therapy-shows-
promise

WebMD Medical NewsReviewed by Louise Chang, MDFeb. 26, 2008 -- Adult
stem cells harvested from either blood or bone marrow hold promise
for the treatment of a wide range of autoimmune diseases and heart
disease, a research review shows.

Since the late 1990s, adult stem cell therapy has been used
experimentally to treat multiple sclerosis (MS), type 1 diabetes,
rheumatoid arthritis, and several other diseases of the immune
system, as well as heart disease.

Northwestern University researcher Richard Burt, MD, and colleagues
summarize results from roughly 60 of these studies involving about
2,400 patients in a review published in tomorrow's edition of The
Journal of the American Medical Association.

Burt pioneered the research on adult stem cells for the treatment of
autoimmune disease. He tells WebMD that the potential uses for stem
cell therapy are only now beginning to be understood.

You dont know me, but I am a lazy, very poorly organized person. While I
would support the efforts, I probably wouldnt be as much help as you would
deserve. Hopefully somebody will step forward and give you a hand, and
this becomes a success. I know it would be good to have others to talk to
on occasion, and not just in the gay community.

Thank you Larry.

Im sorry your mate treats you so wrong. Do you know that you can be with
someone that loves you and respects you. This disease doesnt define how you
should let ppl treat you. If that is how they feel then tell them to get
therapy and deal with it. True love does not blame. You deserve better.

there is also a good chance you didn't get it.. there has to be a
