My name is Alejandra Cano, Hotline and Outreach
Manager for Project Inform, and I would like to introduce you to our toll-free
National
HIV Treatment Hotline. If you don’t already know about the Hotline, I’d like
to
take a moment to let you know more.
Since 1985, the Hotline has provided information
related to the health of people living with HIV. We focus on providing clear,
confidential, trustworthy, non-judgmental information about HIV treatment and
access to health care for people living with HIV.
More than 56,000 new HIV infections occur each year
in the US, and one in four of those with HIV are not in care. Project Inform
hopes to reach these individuals and others who may have questions about HIV.
Some examples of typical concerns that our Hotline can help with are:
·       People who have found out that
they or a friend or family member is HIV-positive
·       Clarify doubts about meds and understand
options related to an HIV diagnosis
·       Side effects of the medicines
·       Questions about HIV and pregnancy
·       Need help to evaluate treatment
information in order to make an informed decision
·       Help advocate for one’s own needs
·       Clarify doubts about how to pay
for medicines and health insurance
·       How to find an HIV specialist or
therapist who speaks Spanish

Línea Nacional de Ayuda sobre Tratamientos para el VIH/SIDA (gratis). Si no
sabia usted de la Línea, me gustaría tomar un momento para hacerle saber de
que
se trata.
Desde 1985, la
Línea Nacional de Ayuda provee información relacionada con el cuidado de la
salud de gente con el VIH. Nos enfocamos en proveer información clara,
confidencial, de confianza, y sin juzgar acerca del tratamiento del VIH y
accesos a cuidados de salud.
Más de 56,000
nuevas infecciones ocurren cada año en USA, y uno de cada cuatro personas
viviendo con VIH no reciben cuidados médicos. Project Inform anhela llegar a
esos individuos y otros quienes podrían tener preguntas acerca del VIH. Algunos
ejemplos son:
·       Personas que se acaban de enterar que ellas o un miembro de su familia
es positivo/a
·       Aclarar dudas acerca de los medicamentos y entender las opciones para
del VIH
·       Efectos secundarios de las medicinas
·       Preguntas acerca del VIH y embarazo
·       Ayuda para evaluar información del tratamiento para tomar una
decisión
informada
·       Ayuda para aprender como abogar por las necesidades de uno mismo
·       Aclarar dudas acerca de cómo pagar las medicinas y seguros médicos
·       Como encontrar un doctor especialista en VIH o sicólogo que hable
español
