BRING A POZ FRIEND

Tuesday, May 6th, 2003 Movie Night "Far From Heaven"
Meet us at Dave Moore & Rich Rodriquez's home, 4951 Mansfield St. in
Normal Heights to Far From Heaven. From the gorgeous cinematography
by Edward Lachman to Elmer Bernstein's luscious score to spectacular
sets and costumes that evoke such a specific period in time -- that of
1950s America -- writer-director Haynes' reworking of Douglas Sirk's
All That Heaven Allows is a remarkable achievement. The film has such
an authentic look and has captured the mindset of the era so capably
you'd swear the name above the title was that of Sirk's. The Whitakers
appear to be the perfect Eisenhower couple. Frank (Quaid) is a
successful salesman, and Kathy (Moore) is the perfect suburban
housewife. The facade is shattered, however, when Frank begins to act
upon his dormant homosexual feelings, sending Kathy into the arms of
their kindly black gardener Raymond (Haysbert). Conventions have been
broken, and tongues soon begin to wag. The three lead actors are
superb in difficult roles that require a subtleness in what not is
said as much as what is. Moore especially shines as a confused wife
who finds comfort and -- for the first time? -- compassion in a man
society will not allow her to befriend. Though it may find its
inspiration in another film, Far from Heaven is a truly original work
born of intelligence, passion and craftsmanship. Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Dave Moore & Rich Rodriguez' Home, 4951 Mansfield St. Cost:
Free

Thursday, May 15th, 2003 Theater Night "TROLLS"
Tonight we'll be going to 6th at Penn Theater to see a new show that
just opened. It's called "TROLLS," and it explores the lives of six
characters that are throwing a bash, a memorial service for Boomie, a
very special friend who recently passed on. What none of them realize,
as they swap salacious yarns and scintillating songs, is that Boomie
has decided to join the party - in spirit. His friends can't see or
hear him and even his sister, who pops in for a disruptive visit, has
no idea he's there. The result is a delicious blend of razzmatazz song
and dance, words and music, which are not only a celebration of their
departed friends' life, but a celebration of their own. For your
ticket see or contact John E. or any board member by Wednesday, May
14th. The play begins at 8:00 p.m. Meet us there at 7:30 p.m. Be
sure to allow time for parking. Tickets through our group will Cost:
