The Sierra Club hikes are open to anyone. You do not need to be a
member to participate. The next Tuesday & Wednesday hikes are
determined each week after the hikes are completed. Then, Gary Felsman
of the Sierra Club is notified and he sends the next weeks hike info
out to a list. If you want to be added to that email list, just send
Gary your email address. I talked with him tonight at the Wednesday
hike and he will be glad to add anyone that wants the hike details.
This way you can get the info when he sends it out without the delay
of me reposting it to hikemorrobay group. Also, don't worry, your
email will only be used for the Tuesday & Wednesday notice. No other
junk gets sent from that list. Gary's email is gfelsman@...
The Tuesday, July 26 4:00 hike will be at Montana de Oro again. This
time meet at the Sand Spit parking lot about a half mile inside the
park. We will hike down the stairs and north along the beach to the
jetty or until people decide to turn back.
Not sure yet where the Wednesday hike will be.

Saturday, July 2, 2005, 9AM-3PM,Montana de Oro Hike: "A Peak, a Creek, and a Bluff"
Please join us on "A Peak, a Creek, and a Bluff Hike" at Montana de Oro, and optionally shoot photos of the spectacular views of ocean, mountains, and oaks as we climb to Oat's Peak and reach the coastal bluffs via the lush riparian habitat of Coon Creek Trail. Hike back along the bluffs to our starting point. Bring lunch, water, binoculars, and camera. Hiking boots are necessary. Meet at the Visitor's Center (Ranch house), Montaña de Oro State Park. (*Strenuous) 9 mi., 6 hrs.
Led by Docents Norma Wightman (lead) and Mike Baird (sweep).
Note, this is an aggressive hike. You must be fit, and have proper hiking boots and water. Trail conditions in places are poor (overgrown, loose footing). You will likely get some ticks on this hike, and will have some exposure to poison oak. Long pants are recommended.
Long time no see or talk to. I will not be able to make saturdays hike. Have to go to an engagement party. I am not sure I can make the last sunday paddle but am still going to try and leave my vote the same until I know for sure.
Have fun on the hike!

Please join us on this aggressive hike. It is currently the longest hike being offered in the Adventures with Nature series - see http://www.morrobaymuseum.org/adventures/for information on this and other hikes and walks in this series. See http://morro-bay.com/outdoor/ for info. on many more other outdoor activities in the Morro Bay, CA area.
Norma Wightman is the lead docent, and Mike Baird is the sweep docent on this hike.
REMINDER - This is one of my favorite hikes in the area. Please
join us...
Sat. May 14th, 2005 I will co-lead a walk-hike with Norma Wightman
(primary lead) on the steep Southern Route up Valencia Peak... at
Montaña de Oro State Park. This is a State Park-sponsored hike,
which leaves promptly at 9 AM - This is an "interpreted hike" which
means we stop a bit for some docent explanations... the hike is also
posted at http://www.morrobaymuseum.org/adventures/ along with all
the other hikes and walks in the State Parks Central Coast
Adventures with Nature series.
Southern Route to Valencia Peak -- Enjoy coastal and mountain
vistas of the southern area of the park enroute to Valencia Peak.
Deep ravines and sharp ridges tell a geologic history of uplift and
erosion. Seasonal wildflowers and sheltered clusters of coastal live
oak punctuate the coastal scrub community. Meet at the Coon Creek
parking lot at the far south end of Montaña de Oro State Park.
Bring
water, lunch and binoculars. Wear hiking boots. Walking stick
recommended but optional.(*S) 4 mi., 3-4 hr.

You take the road to the very end ( way past the ranch house and Spooner's cove)
where you can't drive any further, and we will be there.

You can see Coon creek on the far south end where the black road ends in a
square dot.
There is a small chance we will walk the bluff trail instead of Coon Creek is
rain makes the trail bad, or anyone is really terrified of Poison Oak, or if we
all just want to look at the ocean if it is a sunny day. Bring a small snack,
plenty of water, and good hiking shoes - boots are best...
Hope you can make it.
