Saturday, July 2, 2005, 9AM-3PM, Montana de Oro Hike: "A Peak, a Creek, and a Bluff"
Please join us on "A Peak, a Creek, and a Bluff Hike" at Montana de Oro, and optionally shoot photos of the spectacular views of ocean, mountains, and oaks as we climb to Oat's Peak and reach the coastal bluffs via the lush riparian habitat of Coon Creek Trail. Hike back along the bluffs to our starting point. Bring lunch, water, binoculars, and camera. Hiking boots are necessary. Meet at the Visitor's Center (Ranch house), Montaña de Oro State Park. (*Strenuous) 9 mi., 6 hrs.
Led by Docents Norma Wightman (lead) and Mike Baird (sweep).
Note, this is an aggressive hike. You must be fit, and have proper hiking boots and water. Trail conditions in places are poor (overgrown, loose footing). You will likely get some ticks on this hike, and will have some exposure to poison oak. Long pants are recommended.
