REMINDER - This is one of my favorite hikes in the area. Please
join us...
Sat. May 14th, 2005 I will co-lead a walk-hike with Norma Wightman
(primary lead) on the steep Southern Route up Valencia Peak... at
Montaña de Oro State Park. This is a State Park-sponsored hike,
which leaves promptly at 9 AM - This is an "interpreted hike" which
means we stop a bit for some docent explanations... the hike is also
posted at http://www.morrobaymuseum.org/adventures/ along with all
the other hikes and walks in the State Parks Central Coast
Adventures with Nature series.
Southern Route to Valencia Peak -- Enjoy coastal and mountain
vistas of the southern area of the park enroute to Valencia Peak.
Deep ravines and sharp ridges tell a geologic history of uplift and
erosion. Seasonal wildflowers and sheltered clusters of coastal live
oak punctuate the coastal scrub community. Meet at the Coon Creek
parking lot at the far south end of Montaña de Oro State Park.
Bring
water, lunch and binoculars. Wear hiking boots. Walking stick
recommended but optional.(*S) 4 mi., 3-4 hr.
