Wow, this is a new one on me. Fumes bother me a great deal, with
perfume & sterno fluid being the culprits but doesn't affect my
sinuses, just bronchial tubes so, sure is too bad you're not
independently wealthy, 'cause if you were, a CAT scan of this
affected area might be interesting. It would seem if you keep having
severe symptoms that your doctor would be curious as well. Also, I'm
sure by now you have talked to your hair dresser about this. Perhaps
she can spread the word to see if any intelligent feedback comes his
or her way. Be sure & keep us posted. We care about you.
>Hi all..I am new to this group and hope someone can shed some light
>on my recent sinus problem. For many years I have been treated for
>allergies..first I had the shots and now I mainly use antihistamines
>on a daily basis. I do suffer from chronic post nasal drip but to
>the best of my knowledge..I have never had a sinus infection or real
>problem before. In fact..the dentist asked me if I had sinus
>problems because they are so low?? I do have trouble flying and
>sniff Afrin and take Sudafed before boarding and have had very good
>luck and no more pain. Now..to my problem..I recently had my hair
>dyed..and that has never caused me any grief..but this time I also
>had highlights done and to process them..I was placed under a hot
>dryer with my head still full of hair color and the highlighting
>stuff was wrapped in foil. Everything seemed to be okay except
>during the process I was bothered by the fumes and tried to breath
>through a facecloth which I pressed on my face..probably right!
> on my sinuses. When I was driving home I got a sudden intense pain
>over my left eye and barely made it home..I was baffled and thought
>maybe it was a cluster headache..which I had never had before
>either. I took Advil, which helped, and then eventually it got
>better. The next morning I was thinking..gee..hard to believe I had
>such severe pain yesterday and pressed on the spot over my eye..and
>bang!..the pain was back..in spades! Now..this is day 4 and I am
>still suffering..I have tried..Dristan..Afrin..and recently a saline
>mist...also steaming. OK..I am really no better but the really
>strange thing is that my sinus does not seem to be blocked..I did
>not and do have a cold..but I really think this is an allergic
>reaction to the chemicals..I am taking antihistamines. So..has
>anyone else experienced a similiar problem?? Not that I would wish
>this on anyone but sure hope someone has some info for me. Also..if
>anyone has fickle sinuses..I would definitely avoid any hair co!
> loring that requires heat to process..the fumes are bad enough!
> without
> the heat. Sorry this is so long and looking forward to hearing from
>you all..thank you..Claire
>OH..my husband has had sinsus problems in the past and his GP told
>him to apply Icy Hot right on the tender spot..I am going to try
>this next and will let you all know if that helps..I have been
>putting it off because I hate the smell of it and it stings the skin.
