This website is to help defend the unsubstantiated charges towards nurse midwife Marcia McCulley in Westlake Village, CA. She is a talented and gifted midwife. She was arrested in March 2007, at gunpoint, while attempting to transfer patient care (as ordered by a judge) in front of her patients, because of a physician initiated "witch hunt" towards lay and nurse midwives. After looking at the case, on May 31, 2007, the District Attorney dropped all charges against Ms. McCulley. Moreover, the assistant DA told Ms. McCulley that he was surprised that the accusations had gone so far and had been handled in such a poor manner. In August of 2007 Marcia did surrender her Midwifery License as she was led to believe that doing so would allow her to keep her RN license and thus allow her to make a living as a nurse. The Medical Board also told her that if she surrendered her midwifery license, they would re-write their accusation against her AND take out the primary accusation that she had been “practicing medicine without a license.” (This inaccurate accusation that was the original foot-hold of their entire original plan to destroy her practice.) In October of 2007 the BRN sadistically changed their mind and demanded a full trial and surrender of all her Nursing licenses. Marcia was backed into a corner and was told that if she did surrender all nursing licenses THEN she would not be responsible for the BRN’s investigation’s costs which totaled just under one-hundred thousand dollars. How could she make any other decision? As of January 15, 2008 Marcia’s licenses are all suspended and she can not re-apply for licensure in California for two-years. She is unable to work in any capacity as a nurse. A defense fund has been set up to help her during this extremely difficult time.
