Hello Amanda:

As I understand it, Adenosine has a life of only a few seconds in the blood stream before it is metabolised, hence the reason why the injection into a catheter is normally followed by water, which is to get the Adenosine to the heart as soon as possible, before it degrades. It literally stops the heart for a few seconds until it degrades, when the heart restarts. The few seconds rest allows the tachycardia to subside so that hopefully the heart starts to a normal rhythm.
So: the injected Adenosine is quickly degraded, and Adenosine is a natural chemical produced as part of the body's chemistry, so it is in no way foreign to the body.
My view would be that your symptoms are entirely understandable bearing in mind what you've been through, and are unlikely to be caused by the Adenosine.
I speak as an experienced fellow sufferer, and not as a medical person!

Best wishes, Chris

Subject: [heartrhythm-AA] SVT

Having suffered with attacks for the last 5 or 6 years, this weekend
has been my worst experience.
Having an attack on friday evening, i went to A&E as the usual tricks
were not working. Eventually they had to intervein(?) and i had 3
doses of Adenosine. This failed to return my heartbeat to normal and
i was then give 2 doses of Verapamil. Thankfully this did bring it
down and the cardiologist allowed me home.
Having gone to the Lake District to collect my daughter from my mums,
it started again about half way there. When early evening came and it
still wasnt slowing, i had to go to the local A&E. The doc there
didnt mess about, gave me 2 doses of Adenosine which brought it down.
They then kept me in overnight to make sure it stayed down.

It has not returned, despite me having to keep checking my pulse to
make sure.

What are other peoples experience of having Adenosine? I am now
feeling very weak and shaky, suffering from headaches and nausea and
generally feeling washed out. My doc says this is normal.

I have appointment with cardiologist next month.
