Victims And Relationships Don’t Mix!

Article Description:
====================

In order for relationships to be truly fun, fulfilling, joyful
and loving both people have to be emotionally healthy. That
doesn't mean you still don't have some issues to resolve -
that's part of life. It does mean that you aren't living a life
as a victim of a past experience(s) and continuing to recreate
more victim experiences.

Victims And Relationships Don’t Mix!

If you want to have an amazing "rockin relationship" you can't
be a victim and you can't be with a victim, because you will
either set the person up to victimize you, or they will set you
up to victimize them.

The Law of Attraction says we get what we think about, whether we
want it or not. So if you're afraid of being a victim, you will
have victim energy and you will attract a victimizer. Or you will
perceive what someone does to you as victimizing you.

Let me give you a personal example. I have a childhood friend who
had some experiences growing up that were painful. He was a
victim, at that point. As he grew older in order to get attention
he, probably unconsciously, stepped into the role of the
"victim." Women flocked to him to take care of him, to nurture
him and to rescue him.

All of that might be okay, if he didn't need to keep wearing the
cloak of victim and recreating victim experiences - day in and
day out. And he will try to set people up to victimize him.
He'll interpret everything through the victim filter. So if you
say you can't do something that he wants you to do, then you are
letting him down; he'll play the "Poor Me." For example, if he
calls one day when you're super busy and can't talk, he'll say
you were unkind to him.

He also attracts people who do take advantage of him. Remember
you get what you think about, whether you want it or not.

Now if you've been around someone who sees themselves as a
victim, and lives as a victim, then you know it's a miserable
and drama filled existence. Their lives are all drama and you
can't have a normal, healthy relationship with them. And they
aren't living in their truth as a powerful human being connected
to pure positive energy.

That's the place where you want to be and want the other person
to be.

The most important part of being around a victim is to not
collude with them. Don't see them as a victim. Don't hold them
in that energy. That's what they're used to. That's what they
think they want, because that's how they're used to getting
attention. It's the "Poor Me" routine. Don't go there with
them.

What if instead you saw them as creative, resourceful and whole?
What if you saw them as learning how they really wanted to be in
life and that the victim role was one they played for a while and
might now choose to leave behind?

From that place you're not pulled into their victim energy and
they might be encouraged to change their perspective, to move
into a new more fulfilling role.

Are You A Victim?

Now I've been talking about other people being the victim. What
if you see yourself as a victim?

This is close to my heart, because I used to see myself as a
victim. And sure enough, I would have experiences that made me
look and feel like a victim.

Then one day a wise American Indian elder said to me, "You can
either be a victim of your circumstances, or be victorious in
your learning."

I loved that perspective. It felt so uplifting and powerful. And
I realized I had a choice. And from that moment I always look at
how to be victorious.

During the Beijing Olympics, US track and field star Lolo Jones
was running the 100-meter hurdles final, in which she was heavily
favored. She was leading the race when she clipped the second to
the last hurdle. That knocked her off her stride and she finished
well out of the medals.

What she said after the race - being victorious, not a victim -
was that she felt the gold around her neck and that caused her to
lose her focus for a split second. When you're jumping hurdles
that split second is all it takes. She's not a victim. She may
have not have medaled, but she knows what she did and she has a
powerful learning that will be with her for the rest of her life.

Victims miss the opportunities for learning.

How Can You Be Victorious?

So if you see yourself as a victim, or if you keep being a victim
of others, how can you change?

Before I tell you how to change I want to ask you to not be hard
on yourself if you've been a victim. Sometimes, when we realize
we've been creating it, we can get upset with ourselves. Don't
go there. You didn't know any other way to be. And now I'm
pointing out another way. So start with the "Beginners Mind" -
open and curious, like you are starting your life over. You are.

So the first step is stop being mean to yourself. Your ego is the
critical part of your mind. The victim's ego is cruel, critical,
perfectionistic and judgmental. You can go to my ezine archive on
my website and read May 18, 2004 "What Is Your Negative
Self-Talk Doing to You" and June 29, 2006, "How Your Ego Holds
You Hostage" to get information on how to quiet your critical
voice. Your ego is your critical voice. The truth is it's
probably not even yours, it's probably a father, mother, sibling
or teachers voice. Don't give it attention. Be kind to yourself.
Talk to yourself the way you would want a wise loving mother to
talk to you.

Second, stop seeing yourself as a victim. Start remembering the
good things that have happened to you in your life. The thing
about victims is they don't look at the good things, or they
discount them, or the focus is so weighted on the "bad" things
that they don't give any attention to the "good" things.

Third, pay attention to where you might unconsciously set
yourself up as a victim. If you know that a friend isn't
responsible, don't ask them to feed your cat while you're on
vacation. If your assistant doesn't have good people skills,
don't ask her to talk to your clients. If your boyfriend is
always late, don't ask him to take you to the airport to catch
your flight. Don't set yourself up!

This one is a little tricky, because you've been unconsciously
doing this for a while. If victim things are still happening,
you're still doing it. Now remember, be kind to yourself. It's
okay, you're in the process of changing.

And fourth, don't victimize others. I know you're saying, I
would never do that. But I guarantee you, victims will at some
point, unconsciously victimize others. Even if it's just a
judgment or criticism of another person, or an abrupt
communication. And if you unconsciously victimize another, then
you'll feel really badly about yourself. Then from that place,
you'll attract more victim experiences. So be conscious of your
behavior.

And if you have victimized others, in any way, forgive yourself.
I'm not saying to condone what you did; I'm saying to realize
that you didn't know what you were doing. You were in a victim
perspective and you were unconscious. You were wounded and you
were reacting out of that wound.

Here's a lovely little saying I repeat every day:

"I call on the Law of Forgiveness for myself and all mankind,
for all mistakes, misqualified energy, human unconsciousness and
for straying from the light."

We are all trying to do the best as we can. We will make
mistakes, we will go unconscious and stray from the light. And we
can go back into the light and become victorious in our learning.
And we can feel great about ourselves and from that place attract
the most wonderful experiences into our life!

It's a choice. You can either be a victim of your circumstances
or victorious in your learning.

Choose victorious!

Imagine the possibilities...

Nice Has Its Price!
Copyright (c) 2009 Carol Chanel

http://www.carolchanel.com/

At the 2007 Grammy awards The Dixie Chicks song "I'm Not Ready
to Make Nice" won the Grammy for best song.

The storm of controversy that spawned the song is known to many.
The hottest selling female country band in music history, the
Dixie Chicks, got knocked off a lot of radio stations and
suffered significant financial losses when one of them expressed
a political viewpoint during a London concert in 2003. Whether
you agree with them or not, isn't what I want to focus on in
this article.

As the Dixie Chicks worked their way out of the controversy, they
wrote an award-winning, powerful song that can be a great guide
for all of us.

"I'm not ready to make nice. I'm not ready to back down...I
don't have time to go round and round and round...I've paid a
price and I'll keep paying... I can't bring myself to do what
it is you think I should."

That last line is the key to living your life from a place of
freedom, peace and joy. If you try to live your life to please
others, or to do what they think you should, you'll never be
happy or fulfill your dreams.

People will find all sorts of ways to try to manipulate you into
doing things their way. They will give you gifts, promotions,
raises, love (well not really, but they say they will), housing,
food, and validation. They will act pouty, whiney, controlling,
angry or aloof to try to get you to do things their way. And all
you have to do is give in, speak, act and do it their way. All
you have to do is sell your soul!

Am I being dramatic? Not really. When you live your life by
someone else's standards and wishes, you aren't living it
according to what feels great for you. And you will never be
happy under those circumstances. And it's your life!

As women, many of us were raised to be nice little girls. We were
taught that being people pleasers had benefits. After all most of
us had moms and dads who validated, rewarded and loved us when we
were good.

And that might have been okay when we were small, since we
couldn't survive without mom and dad, but now as women it's not
good for us.

I'm not implying that you need to be nasty. Kind and firm are
appropriate and a great guide for living your life, especially
combined with humble and loving.

But if you think that you need people to like you more than you
need to honor yourself, then you'll be stuck living your life
the way others think you should.

The cost of being nice, of pleasing others, is giving up your
dreams, desires, choices, freedom and your joy of life. It might
keep you from asking for a raise, taking a dream vacation, living
in a favorite city, driving a fun car, having children, or
getting an education - just to mention a few things you might
sacrifice by being nice and pleasing others.

Other than never making you happy, there's a bigger problem to
the nice scenario.

People who want you to do things their way, who want you to make
them happy, don't really care about you. They only care about
their own feelings and needs. They make terrible partners,
friends, co-workers or bosses.

They care about themselves, at your expense. And it's up to you
to see the truth about them. They are in the relationship for
what they can get out of it, not what they can put into it.

If you stay, you will wake up one day and realize how empty you
are. You will realize that you don't know who you are, that you
lost yourself.

So do yourself a favor, find a partner, friend or boss who also
cares about you. Someone who doesn't manipulate you with gifts,
praise, supposed love and other things to get their way.

Find a partner who doesn't get pouty, whiney, controlling, angry
or aloof to manipulate you into doing things their way.
Especially when it's something you really don't want to do, and
know it's not good for you, or doesn't feel right for you.

As the Dixie Chicks learned, there is often a price to be paid
for speaking your opinion, your truth. But the price of being
nice is far greater than any price you might pay for being true
to yourself. Selling your soul to get material or other perceived
gains, isn't what your came here to do or be. You came here to
live an authentic life. You came here to thrive. You can't
thrive when you turn against yourself.

Choose to not back down. Choose not to make nice. Choose to be
kind, firm, humble and loving. Choose to listen to your heart.
Choose to trust that God Source Creation has great people lined
up for you if you make room for them, then trust and stay
positive.

Imagine the possibilities...

Tips for Homeowners: Simple Measures You Can Take to Save Your Home from Fire

You may have homeowners insurance that provides coverage for
damage to your home resulting from fire, but this coverage cannot
protect your loved ones or memories in the case of fire, it only
covers material objects. Every year, 4,000 Americans die in
fires, and the vast majority of those deaths occur at home. Each
year, 100,000 homes are destroyed, 40,000 family pets are killed
and uncounted irreplaceable family treasures are lost forever to
fire. Tragically, most fires are preventable. Don't depend on
your homeowners insurance, taking just a few simple measures
around your home can help prevent a possibly fatal fire.

Home Heating Systems:

The leading cause of fires in the home is faulty heating
equipment. Home heating systems can include furnaces, fireplaces,
wood stoves or space heaters. A few things that you can do to
ensure that your home heating system is safe:

  * Change your air filter regularly to ensure that your furnace
isn't overtaxed.

  * Don't leave piles of newspaper or other combustibles within
two feet of your furnace.

  * Your furnace should be checked regularly by a professional.
The flame should burn a bright, steady blue and should never come
outside of the furnace.

  * If you hear or smell natural gas leaking from your furnace
lines, evacuate the house immediately and use a phone outside the
house to call 911.

  * Fireplace chimneys need to be cleaned out frequently and
inspected for cracks and obstructions.

  * Never burn trash, paper, or green wood in your fireplace.

  * Use a fireplace screen that is both big enough to cover the
entire opening of the fireplace to catch flying sparks and heavy
enough to stop rolling logs.

  * Inspect and clean your wood stovepipe and chimney on a regular
basis and check monthly for damage or obstructions.

  * Keep combustible objects away from wood stoves.

  * Only use heaters with the Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
safety listing.

  * Never put anything on top of your space heater.

  * Never leave the heater unattended or with unsupervised
children.

  * Both electric heaters and kerosene heaters should be unplugged
or turned off if you go to bed or leave the house.

  * Only use crystal clear K-1 kerosene in your kerosene heater -
never gasoline or camp stove fuel.

  * Never use an oven or stove to help heat your home.

Smoking in the Home

While home heating systems are the number one cause of fires in
the home, cigarettes are the number one factor in home fire
fatalities. Follow these safety tips for smoking in the home:

  * If you do smoke, be sensible.

  * Do not leave cigarettes, cigars, or pipes unattended.

  * Don't smoke in bed.

  * If you begin to feel drowsy while watching television or
reading, extinguish your smoking materials in a safe container.

  * Use a large, deep, metal or glass ashtray with wide lips.

  * Never put ashtrays on the arms of sofas or chairs.

  * Water down cigarette butts and ashes before dumping them.

  * Store matches and lighters up high and out of children's
sight and reach, preferably in a locked cabinet.

  * Do not put ashtrays in a location where children or pets could
knock them over.

Arson

The number two cause of fire-related deaths is arson.
Intentionally set fires claim the lives of more people each year
than all natural disasters—including floods, hurricanes,
tornadoes and earthquakes—combined. A little diligence around the
house, along with a watchful eye for strangers, can make a world
of difference:

  * Most arson fires are fueled with combustible material found
nearby. Keep properties clean, and keep flammable liquids safely
out of sight, locked in a shed or garage.

  * Learn about arson trends in your area.

  * Start a neighborhood watch program to prevent arson and other
crime.

How to Handle a Kitchen Fire

Many household fires start in the kitchen. Untended cooking and
human error account for most of these fires - not mechanical
failure of stoves or ovens. Here's how to handle a kitchen fire:

  * Call 911 immediately. Prepare for the worst and don't
hesitate to call.

  * Smother frying-pan fires by covering with a lid, then turn off
the heat with the lid in place until the pan cools. Do not try to
carry the pan outside because this could seriously burn you if
the contents spill out.

  * Other food fires may be extinguished with baking soda, so try
to keep an extra box stored in an upper cabinet location. Never
use water or flour on cooking fires.

  * Turn off the heat to smother oven or broiler fires and keep
the door shut.

  * Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and know how to use
it.

General Fire Safety Tips

  * Keep children away from open flames and electrical
receptacles.

  * Make sure your smoke alarm is maintained and working properly.
Check batteries twice a year (a good way to remember to do this
is to check smoke alarms when you change the clocks at the
beginning and end of daylight savings time).

  * Have a smoke alarm in every level of your house.

  * Keep your emergency numbers near the telephone.

  * Always call the fire department for any fire, even if the fire
has been completely extinguished.

  * Have a fire evacuation plan and practice it with your family.

Insure your Home

Last but not least, although homeowners insurance can not save
your life or priceless memories, it is an absolute necessity to
protect yourself against damage to or the loss of your home and
its contents. Most mortgage lenders require some level of hazard
insurance for your home, but you should always get additional
homeowners insurance to make sure you are fully protected. When
shopping for a homeowners insurance quote, it's important to
research the insurer, understand the policy, and choose the right
amount of coverage. Policies vary from one company to another, so
you should get a homeowners insurance quote from several
different companies before deciding on one.

At a non-biased, third party insurance quotes site consumers can
choose the type of insurance they are interested in receiving a
quote for, fill out a form online, and within minutes a request
is submitted. At that time, local insurance agents contact the
consumer to discuss their insurance needs and compete for their
business. Consumers can then choose from the best offer they
receive.

Understanding Gambling Addiction
Copyright (c) 2009 Skyler Ace
Online Gambling Blog
http://onlinegambling23.blogspot.com/

There's nothing wrong with gambling, if you use it the right way
- as means of having fun, as a hobby or a way of de stressing.
The danger comes when the roles get reversed and gambling starts
using you. When you start to gamble not to relax, but because you
get tense when you are not gambling, you have a serious problem.
With online gambling being so prevalent and easy to access, this
is now becoming a serious problem.

Gambling addiction has a great deal of social stigma attached to
it. While things like alcohol and drug addiction are met with a
certain amount of sympathy, people tend to feel that a person
dependent on these things is one who could not face life's
pressures and took the easy way out. These people need sympathy
and help to recover. Gambling addicts, on the other hand, are
often treated a selfish, self centered people who do not care for
their families and are throwing away their and their families
futures by gambling away all their money.

Gambling addiction is understood by mental health professionals
to be an emotional problem and has the same roots as any other
form of addiction. Gambling addiction needs to be viewed in the
same way as other extreme emotional states like acute anxiety and
depression. To treat it merely as a case of a weak or immature
personality is to misunderstand the problem and treat it the
wrong way.

Like all addicts, the gambling addict will have moments of
clarity when he will appreciate what the addiction is doing to
his life and to his family. Again, like other addicts, he may
make some weak efforts to cure himself and will, in 95% of the
cases, fail. He then accepts his addiction as being incurable and
inevitable and feels that he has no choice but to gamble. The
descent into disaster only accelerates from here.

But gambling addiction is not just treatable, it is curable.
There are no magic bullets or pills that can remove the problem
overnight. It is a long haul and the cured gambling addict, like
the reformed drinker or drug addict, will have to spend the rest
of his life being careful about falling back into the trap. But
this is a very small price to pay for escaping from the hole.

Gambling addicts rarely see the problems they have, and if they
do, forget about it in their desire to gamble. There are fours
easy checks to know if you have a gambling addiction. Be
completely honest with yourself and ask yourself if you or
someone you care about has these symptoms:

  * Do you feel the need to be secretive about your gambling? Do
you hide it or lie about it?

  * Once you start, are you able to stop at a predetermined point
- either at a fixed time or when you have lost a fixed amount of
money? Or do you keep on gambling until you are exhausted and /
or have no money left?

  * Do you gamble even when you can't afford it? Are you spending
money meant for other purposes on gambling - money for school
fees, utility bills and so on?

  * Are those who care worried about you? Even if they haven't
said anything as yet, do you sense they are concerned about you?

Forget about having all of these symptoms, having even one of
them is enough of a cause for concern. Even one symptom is a sign
of if not full blown addiction, at least a sign of being well on
the way to becoming an addict.

Cure and treatment is only possible if the person is both honest
enough to see that he has a problem and also has a desire to be
cured of it. It is not possible to treat someone who does not
want to be treated.

Gambling addicts wanting to be cured must accept the fact that
this is an emotional disorder and that they will not be able to
deal with it themselves. It is normal to feel ashamed of having
the problem and therefore reluctant to ask for help. But this is
not something that can be self treated. This is a medical
condition that needs to be treated by qualified professionals.

Summer Cooking and Acid Reflux

Reflux Gone Forever
http://www.refluxgoneforever.com

The summer season provides a cornucopia of delicious vegetables,
fruits and herbs. Preparing meals during this wonderful season
presents boundless opportunities to prepare easily digestible
food. This is particularly important to those who suffer from
acid reflux.

The tomato, which many consider the quintessential fruit of
summer, has long been given a bad rap. Thought of as acidic in
nature, many people who experience acid reflux shun the tomato
like the plague. When tomatoes are slowly over cooked to produce
a thick sauce they do become extremely acidic. When served raw in
their natural state tomatoes, however, are sweet and alkaline.

My all time favorite tomato recipe is quite simple and easy to
prepare. Made with slices of tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil,
it is better known in Italy as Caprese Salad (in the style of
Capri). It is the starter listed below for my favorite summer
meal.

Cooking outdoors is an American summer tradition. It is
liberating to get out of the kitchen to cook and the clean up is
much easier. My favorite main dish of summer is chicken. I buy a
"natural" bird to start with. I then butterfly it by cutting
close to the backbone from tail to neck, flip it over and press
it down, dry it with paper towels and season it. This makes a
much nicer presentation than just grilling loose pieces of
chicken.

I live in a log cabin on a mountain top in rural Pennsylvania.
Because we have so many bear and other creatures who share our
love of outdoor cooking, we confine those activities to the deck
using a Weber gas grill with a cover. In order to create that
real woodsy flavor of a traditional barbeque, we use one of those
metal wood chip boxes filled with oak, mesquite or hickory. The
oak is free. Twigs and branches fall out of the trees in the back
yard. I like to mix these woods together to produce a unique
smoke flavor. I call this cooking technique "grill-a-quing",
because you are combining grilling with barbequing and smoking.

Of course, the chicken can be cooked in the traditional manner
over coals or wood. The secret is to start off with high heat in
order to seal the bird. When the fat starts to flare up, the heat
must be brought down to low. The objective it to keep the juices
in while making the skin very crisp. This is more easily
controlled when using a gas grill with a cover.

A three and one half to four pounder can require up to two hours
to fully cook. While the chicken is slowly cooking filling the
air with enticing flavors, I have time to make the final
arrangements for dinner. When the chicken is done it is crispy on
the outside and moist and juicy inside. It is almost impossible
to resist eating the skin. I always have a just little piece of
skin off the thigh to satisfy that urge. I present the
butterflied chicken on a carving board and serve the portions
upon request. If you can't pull it apart with your fingers, then
it has not cooked enough.

I like to serve the chicken with a garden salad, utilizing as
many ingredients as possible. We grow herbs and vegetables on the
decks in large terracotta clay pots. It is very convenient to
just walk out the French doors onto the deck and harvest what you
will need for the salad while the bird is cooking. If you want
carbs, make a simple pasta primavera with the vegetables using
penne or even orzo. Toss with oil, vinegar and fresh herbs like
oregano and set aside. This dish is perfectly fine served at room
temperature.

To complete this meal, I like to serve a simple dessert featuring
whatever fruits are in season. Local berries or ripe peaches are
always delicious. I like to serve them over lemon pound cake with
a dollop of whipped cream. In Pennsylvania we have local apples
in late summer. My favorite dessert is a puff pastry apple tart
with apricot rum glaze. This is so easy to make, yet looks quite
impressive to eagerly awaiting appetites. If you opt for the
apple tart, you will have to bake it earlier in the day. Let it
cool and place it in a cold oven to keep the pastry crispy.

Bon Appetite!

CAPRESE SALAD

Ingredients:

Four Ripe tomatoes (about two pounds), sliced thin (1/4 inch)

Fine sea salt and freshly ground pepper

One pound of fresh mozzarella sliced about the same as tomatoes

One cup chiffonade of fresh Basil (stack basil leave, roll up and
cut into thin slices)

Extra virgin olive oil (first cold pressed)

1/4 cup chopped fresh chives

Directions:

Arrange the tomato slices on a serving platter. Season with salt
and pepper. Drizzle olive oil and sprinkle half the basil on the
tomatoes and cover with slices of mozzarella. Drizzle more olive
oil and sprinkle more basil over the mozzarella. Garnish dish
with chopped chives. Hold at room temperature before serving just
long enough to allow the cheese to soften and meld with the
tomato juices. Serve with warm crusty bread for sopping up the
juices.

GRILL-A-QUED BUTTERFLIED CHICKEN

Ingredients:

Grill spray

Wood chips (oak, apple, mesquite or hickory)

3-1/2 to 4 pound natural chicken (butterflied as explained above)

Sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, garlic powder and cayenne
pepper

Directions:

Spray clean grill thoroughly with oil and fill the metal wood box
with pieces of wood (the wood does not need to be soaked in
water). Ignite entire grill at the highest setting. Meanwhile
remove excess fat from chicken and season chicken on both sides
with salt, pepper, garlic powder and cayenne pepper to taste.
When the wood starts to smoke and the grill is very hot, place
the seasoned chicken breast side up on the cooking grates. Wait a
few minutes and when fat flares up adjust heat to the lowest
setting. Continue to cook, checking periodically, until the skin
is quite crisp and the joints are easily moved (about an hour and
a half to two hours) . The chicken should be well done but not
dried out. When you see that the flesh can be easily pulled
apart, carefully move the chicken to a cutting board. Allow
fifteen minutes for the juices to set up before serving. The
secret to making this dish is "seal and slow". You do not want
the flames that might flare up as fat is being expelled to burn
the skin of the chicken. If this does occur, open the lid of the
cooker until they subside. Natural chickens have less fat.

PUFF PASTRY APPLE TART WITH APRICOT RUM GLAZE

Ingredients:

One sheet of puff pastry (thawed)

Three or four tart apples (Braeburn, Fuji or Gala) peeled,
halved, cored and sliced into very thin pieces

Juice of one lemon

Three tablespoons fine white sugar

Cinnamon

One quarter cup apricot jam

One quarter cup dark rum

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare apples and place in work bowl. Toss lightly with lemon
juice. Thaw puff pastry according to directions. Place jam and
rum in a deep microwave safe bowl partially covered with plastic
wrap. Heat until boiling, but not over flowing so that the
alcohol in the rum evaporates and forms a glaze. Set aside. Line
a 12" x 18" baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out pastry
sheet on lightly floured surface to make a bit thinner. Fold the
edges of the pastry over to form a border of about 1/2 inch on
all sides of the rectangle. Place the sliced apples overlapping
each other in alternating vertical rows to cover pastry sheet,
keeping the rows within the border. Dust with sugar and cinnamon.
Bake for about 25 minutes or until pastry is golden and apples
are tender. With a pastry brush, apply the glaze over the apples
(reheat the glaze if necessary). Serve with crème fraiche,
whipped cream or ice cream. A sprig of mint and a few raspberries
make a terrific garnish with each serving.

All courses represent a serving for four.

Bodybuilding Supplements - Easy Road to Massive Gains - or an Empty Wallet?
Copyright (c) 2009 Len Rogalski
How To Build Up Muscle
http://www.howtobuildupmuscle.net/

If you have ever flipped through a copy of one of the more
popular bodybuilding magazines on the market you have seen them.

Page after page of ads, each one proclaiming their unique
benefits - one promises massive gains in six weeks another
serious fat loss.

Almost all of them have catchy names and the ads sure look
impressive - and healthy price tags to boot.

Here's the thing - nearly all of those products you see should
be viewed one way - as supplements to a solid bodybuilding
program.

One that focuses on the basic lifts contains plenty of high
quality protein, clean carbs, and healthy fats.

And almost more importantly - focuses on getting at least eight
hours of sleep per night - every night.

Only when you can ask yourself if your program fits all of the
above criteria and can honestly answer yes, then and only then
should you start looking into buying supplements.

Then it is simply analyzing what you are currently trying to
achieve and searching out a quality product that will HELP you
achieve your goal - but won't get you there all-by-itself.

For example, if you are severely underweight and need to gain
weight for football or another sport, looking into buying a
quality weight gainer would not be a bad option.

Notice above I said quality weight gainer, when purchasing
supplements it is never a good idea to go cheap - sure you might
save a few bucks, however, chances are that cheap products
contain cheap ingredients that will yield little if any positive
results.

What I mean by the above is this, a cheap weight gainer that uses
cheap fats and sugars to inflate its calorie count will; chances
are, only increase the size of your waist - not good.

One other point, people often complain that they are not getting
any results from using a certain supplement, the thing is, when
you question them about it they say things like, well they had to
cut the serving size in half to save money, or they only use it
when they remember.

No supplement, no matter how good is going to do anything for you
if you do not take enough of it, within reason of course, or if
you only take it once a week.

Lastly, when you do make the decision to buy a supplement make
sure you only buy one at a time, this way when you add it in to
your diet and exercise program you will be able to tell if it is
working or not.

Actually if possible it would be best to keep all the other
factors as close to constant as you can for a couple of weeks
(meaning keep the same routine and diet you had before adding in
the supplement) so that you will be able to tell with pretty good
accuracy if the supplement you bought is doing what it said it
would do.

If you add two or three things at one time you won't know which
product is working, so stick to trying one thing at a time until
you find something that works.

Conclusion

If you make sure that your diet and exercise program are on track
before you purchase a supplement, and only buy supplements that
were meant to help you achieve your particular goal, not only
will you make better gains, but chances are you will keep more
money in your wallet as a result - and that's definitely a good
combination!

Signs You're About to Get Dumped
Copyright (c) 2009 James Kern
Back Together Forever
http://www.backtogetherforever.com/

There are a lot of signs that a relationship disaster is on the
cards. How many are you currently seeing?

Body Language

What does your partner's body language say? Do they avoid eye
contact with you? Do they turn their body away from you when
you're talking? Do they roll their eyes and make other signs of
contempt?

Gotta Go, Bye!

Are you having a hard time holding a phone conversation with your
partner? Do they always seem to have a reason to hang up early?
Are they leaving you high and dry when you text them?

Sex, What Sex?

A drop in sexual activity indicates that there is something wrong
with your relationship. It means there's a lack of intimacy -
and what's a relationship without intimacy? It can also indicate
contempt - because who wants to have sex with someone they don't
respect anymore?

The Future... Doesn't Exist

If your partner is hesitant to make any sort of commitment for
future activities, it's a sign that they don't see you in their
future. If they keep putting off buying plane tickets to your
parents' for Thanksgiving, it's probably because the day after
is going to be a very Black Friday for you, indeed.

Space

The "I need some space" line really does mean that you're
breaking up, no matter what the other person might tell you.
They're just looking to get far enough away so that when they
really cut ties, they won't be near the blast zone.

A Not-Quite-Hug

When you go to hug your sweetie, they pull that one-shoulder hug
or the quickie-pat-on-the-back hug. If they're not making full
frontal contact, they're trying to pull away from you.

You're No Longer Mirroring Each Other

People who are in love mirror each other's movements. If he
takes a sip of his drink, she does too. They laugh at the same
time. They reach for each other's hands simultaneously. If you
are about to be dumped, you'll feel like you're not synching up
anymore.

You Get In Dumb, Dumb Fights

If you're fighting over stupid things like whether the
saltshaker goes in the spice cabinet or on top of the stove,
you're about to get dumped. Your partner may be pressing your
buttons by doing all the things they know will annoy you in an
attempt to get you to dump them first.

He's Late... Again

If your partner has developed the habit of being late for
everything, then it's a sure sign that they've lost respect for
you. If it happens once or twice, no problem. But if it's
happening nearly every time you're supposed to meet up, you can
be sure it's intentional.

You Find A Secret Something

When my friend Arthur was going to dump his wife for a woman he
met online, the first thing he did to prepare was to buy a
pre-paid cell phone. Then his girlfriend could call him without
his wife finding out her phone number on the monthly phone
statement.

Whether it's a phone or a bank account, if they've started
something new without you, it's a big sign that you're about to
be history.

They Dress Differently

Suddenly the girl who was content in jeans and t-shirts is
wearing dresses and high heels. When people are looking for a
change in their life, they often start with the areas that they
can control like their physical appearance.

They may not have a new love in their life, but they're dressing
in a way to attract one!

Are You Doomed?

Don't worry if you find one or two of these signs. They don't
always mean that your relationship is heading south.

Be sure to keep the lines of communication open with your partner
- talking things out and being honest with each other will keep
your relationship strong.

How To Say No!
Copyright (c) 2009 Carol Chanel
Certified Life Coach
http://www.carolchanel.com/

"I meant to say NO." We've all have had the experience where
we meant to say no to someone. We knew it was going to be
difficult but we were determined this time. Then next thing you
know, we're saying yes. How did that happen? Why did that
happen?

Do you notice that the very people you mean to say no to, are the
ones who seem to draw the life energy out of you?

It reminds me of buying a car. You know how much the car costs,
how much you can spend, and the next thing you know the salesman
has worn you down and your energy is totally spent and you'll
say yes to anything just to get out of the dealership.

I don't mean to pick on car salesmen, there are great ones out
there who are very helpful and have your best interests at heart.

There are people who are trained to get their way. They will be
persistent and determined to get you to say yes.

I take my car to a local car wash and the man who writes up your
ticket is a master at getting people to buy the full works. You
know the $35 hand wash, hand wax, air freshner, etc. I actually
can't stand going there because I know each time I'll have to
be really strong and almost harsh to get him to back down. I just
want a regular wash and wax. Do you want the $8, the $4 or the $2
wax? Just put the wax on the car and let me out of here!!!

These people are what I call energy suckers and you're the
energy lollipop. What actually goes on?

How Do People Get Your Energy?

People learn, from a young age, how to control other people to
get their way. Here are some of the techniques they'll use:

  * Manipulation

  * Acting aloof by puling away in an attempt to have you chase
them

  * Money or gifts

  * Bullying techniques - verbal, emotional or physical

  * Hostility

  * Persistence

  * Crying or drama of some sort

  * Acting intellectually superior

How Do They Control You?

Whatever they do to control you, there's only one reason why it
happens.

You allow it.

You allow it because you tell yourself you need something from
these particular people. Like love, validation, acceptance,
approval, a job, a home, or something as simple as your car
washed.

Or you allow it because you don't want to be seen a certain way
- like harsh, uncooperative, unkind, not nice!

Remember, as women we were raised to be good girls, to be sweet
and helpful, not to be assertive, not to compete with each other
and at all costs not to create conflict.

How To Be Released From Their Control?

So whatever your reason, it will keep you from being firm. So
next time you need to say no, look to see what might keep you
from no. Then once you understand that reason, instead of trying
to get it from an outside source, give yourself the love,
validation or acceptance. Or let go of needing to be seen a
certain way.

When you give yourself what you need, you take your energy back.
Then you will release yourself from their control.

When you connect to an all-loving God (Divine Source) you will be
filled with love, light and joy. God is THE energy source.

Everything comes from God (Divine Source.) If you think that your
mother, brother, boyfriend, father, boss, teacher, or husband is
the source then you can be controlled. If you realize you receive
everything you need and want when you connect to God, then you
can freely have what you want. No cost. Yes to God, no to human
control.

Saying NO to others who want you to do something you don't want
to do, is saying YES to yourself.

The Cost of Not Saying No!

The impact of not saying no to others can be costly to your
health, relationships and your spirit.

So the next time your boss asks you to stay late when you have
dinner plans, choose yourself and go to dinner. The next time a
friend wants you to listen to her sob story, for the 10th time,
and it's your workout night, choose yourself and go workout. The
next time your boyfriend or spouse wants you to stay at home and
watch TV when you have plans to go to the movies with your
girlfriends, choose yourself and go to the movies.

You'll be training people how to treat you. You'll be taking
care of yourself. You'll be maintaining balance in your life.
You'll be building strong relationships.

Remember people are not your Source. Of anything. They may look
like it, but they're not. If you get fired for not working late,
then you'll get another job right away. If your friend gets mad
and doesn't want to talk to you, well sounds like you'll be
saving yourself from lots of drama. And if your boyfriend
doesn't like you going to the movies with your girlfriends, get
another boyfriend. There are plenty where he came from. God or
Divine Source will send you anything you need. Just ask and be
open to receiving it.

Choose to take care of yourself. Choose to be firm. Choose to say
NO to others. Choose to say YES to yourself. Choose the basic $15
car wash.

Imagine the possibilities....

Using Diet to Help Control Arthritis Symptoms
Copyright (c) 2009 Cathy Q
Treatment of Arthritis
http://www.treatment-of-arthritis.com

Diet is an important factor in many diseases including arthritis.
Here are some tips to using diet to help control your arthritis
symptoms.

  * Eat a healthy, well balanced diet. This is the number one rule
in controlling many diseases. When the body has the vitamins and
nutrients it needs it is better able to fight off disease.

  * Drink plenty of water. Drinking 8 glasses of water each day
helps keep the cells hydrated and working their best.

  * Eat foods that are high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are
responsible for ridding the body of excess free radicals that can
cause disease and break down the immune system. Antioxidants
boost the immune system and have anti-inflammatory properties.
Many vegetables and fruits contain high levels of antioxidants.

  * Eat a low fat diet. Fats can do more harm than good to the
body. Eliminate or cut back on saturated fats, which have
detrimental effects. Eat the healthy types of fats instead.

  * Eat foods that contain the five essential components, which
include protein, carbohydrates, minerals, fats and vitamins.

  * Some foods are thought to be triggers for arthritis flare-ups.
While the jury is still out on whether or not this is true, some
people swear by it. If you have certain foods that seem to cause
you problems systematically eliminate them from your diet to see
if you see improvement. Some common foods that may be possible
culprits are acidic foods like tomatoes and oranges.

  * Eat less processed foods. Processed foods contain chemical
preservatives and excess salt, which is not good for the body.
Processed foods also lose much of their nutritive value,
particularly canned foods.

  * Use more plant oils in cooking. Plant oils are thought to play
a role in fighting arthritis. Olive oil is one of the best oils
to use in your food.

  * Eat foods that contain Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty
acids are known to reduce pain and inflammation of people with
arthritis. It is found in oily fish such as mackerel, salmon,
trout sardines and herring. Other good sources are grape seeds,
walnuts, and oils such as safflower and canola.

  * Supplement your diet with omega-3 fatty acids if you don't
get enough in your regular diet. Supplements are readily
available at your local pharmacy or health food store.

  * Try to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each
day. These contain antioxidants that are necessary to help fight
arthritis.

  * Eat foods that contain folic acid. Folic acid, also known as
folate, is part of the B group of vitamins. These are good for
counteracting some of the side effects of prescription rheumatoid
arthritis medication. Folic acid is found in green leafy
vegetables like spinach and cabbage as well as in whole grains
and dairy products.

  * Green tea has been found to be helpful in providing
antioxidants and is helpful for those with osteoarthritis. Drink
a cup of green tea daily.

While there is still much more research to be done, eating a
healthy diet will help you to improve your health and can also
help with arthritis symptoms.

A body detox diet can be a fresh, full, spicy, and delicious
feast altogether. What with all the sumptuous fresh fruit salads
and vegetable soups, one can easily forget that he or she is
actually on a home body detox. However, it is not just all about
the solid foods. If there are superfoods, there are superliquids
too! Much of the cleansing is really made possible by the liquids
that are taken in the body.

So take advantage of a home body detox and don't worry much
about getting diuretic. Surely, it will be to your body's
benefit. It is highly recommended that the liquid detoxification
process be implemented in the morning when the body is in its
best cleansing mood.

The All-Important Water

If you are the type who seems to get regular headaches, then you
must also be the type who doesn't really care much about your
water intake. Much of the headaches are really caused by the
depleted water level in the body, which could translate to
dehydration. In a total body detox however, water plays a very
important role as it helps flush out the toxic wastes. As such,
the more water you drink, the healthier you become.

If you have to put a big pitcher or container full of water
beside you wherever you go then do so as it will encourage you to
drink more from time to time. An important reminder though! When
it comes to water, it has to be purified. Otherwise, it will
defeat the purpose of the whole body detox plan. Do not rely too
much on tap water because these days, it can contain bacteria and
other harmful substances that you do not know of. So go for
distilled water or spring water and you're good to go.

All-Natural Herbal Teas

Next to drinking coffee, drinking herbal tea is a common
practice. While it is extremely soothing to drink a hot tea, its
natural healing properties have been likewise recognized since
the ancient times. These days, herbal teas come in different
flavors and are more enjoyed over coffee because of its minimal
or non-existent caffeine content.

In particular, herbal colon cleanse teas work to detoxify the
organ by breaking down mucoid plaque in the colon walls and then
eliminating the wastes. It is also known to strengthen the lower
bowel. More importantly, herbal colon cleanse teas give a whole
body detox from yeasts, parasites, bacteria and viruses.

All Fruits and Vegetable Cocktails

Watermelon, as the fruit name suggests, has lots of water
content. Carefully selected watermelon can be deliciously red and
sweet. Watermelon juice is definitely great for body detox as
well. With a juice extractor, juice up the watermelon flesh, some
of its seeds, and a small portion of the green part right below
the rind.

On the other hand, juices that are made from fresh vegetables
have numerous health benefits. The multivitamin content in
vegetables builds up the body's resistance against diseases. It
also facilitates the metabolic processes and increases the energy
levels. Most importantly, vegetable juice helps the body detox
system in expelling the toxins from the body.

There's nothing wrong with gambling - if it's done the right
way. As a sport, as a hobby, as a stress buster, there are many
ways in which gambling can be good for you. But, and this is a
big but, there are even more ways in which gambling can, not only
be bad for you, it can ruin your life. It is all a matter of how
your treat gambling and the role it plays in your life.

If gambling has become more than a sport, a hobby or a stress
buster, its time for you to step back from it and rethink the
extent of your involvement. We're not talking of gambling
addiction here - just a stage where gambling is playing a more
important role in your life than it should. This is a dangerous
road to travel because if you don't turn back while it's easy,
you may find yourself addicted - something you thought happened
to other people. Like all addictions, it is easy to fool yourself
into believing that you are not addicted or on the road to it.
You always know you can stop when you want to, but you don't
want to. Why should you - there are so many reasons you can think
of to carry on. And all of them, to you, are valid.

Allowing gambling to start controlling your life does not mean
that you sit in front of your computer 24/7 playing games for
money and living on cigarettes, booze, coffee and junk food. That
is only the final stage. The thing to know is if you are on your
way there and quit while you can. How do you know if you need to
stop gambling? Ask yourself these questions:

  * Do you find that you have less spending money these days? And
you don't know where the cash went?

  * Are you less interested in your non work related activities
than you used to be?

  * Are you socializing less than before?

  * Are you finding more reasons not to go in to work? And are you
less motivated about your work when you are doing it?

  * Do you find yourself avoiding your friends?

  * Do you owe money? Are you borrowing to repay what you borrowed
earlier?

If you find that any of these are happening to you, even in a
small way, you need to seriously think about stopping gambling.
Stop it now while you can and when it still relatively easy.
Admit you have a problem and begin your cure before others have
to step in and do it for you.

The first thing you need to do is tell you friends that you think
you need to stop gambling and that you need their help. Ask them
to help you out for a short while by making extra time for you.
When you feel the urge to go online and gamble, go and spend some
time with these people. Go and physically meet them - get out of
the house. Online chatting is no good - you need a change of
environment.

But you may get bored and feel like gambling at night when it's
too late to visit people. What do you do then? What you need to
do is load some of the easily available software that will block
your access to online gambling sites. Since you can't gamble on
line, you will need to be occupied. Try reading, cooking,
watching TV - whatever appeals to you. And if you find that you
are happier online, even if you are not gambling, go ahead and
visit some chat rooms or support groups or whatever you feel like
doing.

These may seem like simple things that are so basic anyone can
think of them. That's true, but the problem lies in knowing when
you need to use them. With full fledged addiction, everyone will
know you have a problem even if you don't and will try to help
you. With an initial unhealthy level of preoccupation in
gambling, the situation is reversed - only you will know you have
a problem.

Try out these simple steps for a couple of months and you will
find your life getting back on track. It's much easier to do in
the early stages before you need to cancel you credit cards and
join Gamblers Anonymous.

Understanding Compulsive Gambling
Copyright (c) 2009 Skyler Ace

People gamble for many reasons. Some do it for the pure thrill
and fun of it, and others just because they're feeling lucky,
and many do it out of habit. There are some people who gamble as
a way to relax, socialize or just escape from everyday lives.
Whatever the reason may be, gambling becomes a problem when it is
done in excess. In fact, people often don't realize that it's
become an addiction, until they are in so deep and affects normal
life.

An uncontrollable urge to continue gambling, irrespective of the
consequences it has on your life is known as compulsive gambling.
Compulsive gambling is an extremely serious condition and can
cause vast destruction.

The internet is filled with sites dedicated to the art of
gambling, but not all of them are built to encourage gambling.
There are sites that are built to help gamblers who have come to
realize they have developed a problem - they have become an
addict of the profession.

Gambling anonymous is just one of many forums that are springing
up to help people who have become obsessed with gambling (also
called compulsive gambling). With the relative ease by which
online gambling can be begun, and the wide variety of options the
internet presents, stumbling on sites promoting gambling is very
easy. Even easier is finding a niche in the vast gambling world
that will appeal to the individual.

As an art, gambling has always had high addictive properties. It
is why people are advised to decide on a betting limit, before
they begin and urged to resist from borrowing or chasing their
losses. But despite the warnings most people fall prey to these
mistakes and over time, develop a slow pattern that soon spirals
into the destructive spin of compulsive gambling. Compulsive
gamblers are people who have allowed the art to take over, thus
their lives resulting in far reaching social and psychological
effects.

How Do You Know If You Are A Compulsive Gambler?

There are many ways of determining if a person is a compulsive
gambler. Gamblers anonymous, offers the following questions to
help in deciding if a person is suffering from compulsive
gambling. They will usually answer yes, to any 7 of the
following.

1. Does gambling cause you to skip work?

2. Is your home life a mess due to gambling?

3. Is your reputation spoiled due to gambling?

4. Do you ever regret gambling after you've done so?

5. Are you gambling in the hope of ending your financial
troubles?

6. Is your efficiency or ambition affected due to gambling?

7. Do you lose time from work due to gambling?

8. After you lose a game, do you have this need that you must
return to try and win back what you lost?

9. After winning, do you want to go back and try and win some
more?

10. Do you keep gambling till you don't have any money left?

11. Do you borrow so that you can gamble?

12. Do you sell stuff so that you have money to gamble?

13. Have you considered doing something illegal so that you have
money to gamble?

14. Do you spend sleepless nights thinking about gambling?

15. Do you think twice about spending money on other things
besides gambling?

16. Do you often gamble more than you planned to?

17. Are you gambling to forget your troubles?

Compulsive gamblers like alcoholics are in need of help. If
untreated, the effects are far reaching. They become distant and
detach themselves from their families. It is difficult for them
to break the habit on their own. If you have a friend or relative
who is suffering, it is prudent to get them help.

Compulsive gambling can be treated, and one just needs to have
the right approach and direction. As mentioned earlier, there are
many websites, blogs, online forums that have great trips and
suggestions on how to get out of it. If this doesn't help, one
can always seek professional assistance. Always know, that you
have plenty of options, so do not give up and find out ways that
can help you kick you off your habit of gambling, for good!

Next time you have to make a decision about a job, a
relationship, a promotion, or even a date, I want you to run the
fear-based vs. trust-based test past it.

In the fear-based choice, you'll make your decision to prevent
something you're afraid of from happening. In a trust-based
decision, you'll trust your heart and soul's voice to go where
it's calling you, knowing that the Universe will respond to that
desire.

How Fear-Based and Trust-Based Decisions Sound

The fear-based job decision sounds like - "I'd better take this
job, they're offering me a lot of money and I might never get
married, so I better be thinking of how to support myself in the
future."

A trust-based job decision sounds like - "I'm grateful the
company wants me, but I don't feel good about working there.
They seem so cold and a little unprofessional. I'm going to hold
out for a job where I can work hard, make a good living and also
have fun."

A fear-based relationship decision sounds like - "Why not date
Tom? He's a successful, smart and serious man. I know he wants
me to dress up more than I like to, and he's kind of serious all
the time, but I can manage that. And I don't know if someone as
smart or successful will ask me out again."

A trust-based relationship decision sounds like - "It's so
lovely that Tom wants to date me, but he's just not the kind of
person I want to spend time with. I prefer men who are more
relaxed and fun, where I can wear a tee shirt, shorts and
flip-flops on the weekend. I'm not going to date him. I'm going
to wait to spend time with someone I'd rather be with."

Why You Make Fear-Based Decisions

You make fear-based decisions in order to get love, security,
approval or self-esteem from outside sources.

And when you make a decision for the sake of security or approval
or love, you often go against what your heart and soul truly
desires. You go for the security because you don't trust the
Universe will send you something better. And you do it at a huge
cost to yourself.

Oprah is a perfect example of not choosing to make a decision for
security. As I recall the story, when she was very young she was
offered an anchor job that would have allowed her to earn $22,000
a year. Her father strongly advised her to take that job because
it was safe. Fortunately for Oprah, and all of us, she turned it
down and followed her heart.

Oprah is a clear example of the Universe powerfully responding
when you choose to follow your heart's desire.

Can you imagine what her life would have been like, and the
thousands along the way she's helped, if she had chosen
security? That was a fear-based decision she avoided. Thank you
Oprah!

Other people make wrong choices in relationships because they are
desperate for love. A woman might choose to marry a man she
doesn't love. Her thinking is usually, "he loves me, he's a
nice man, and even though I don't love him, at least I'm not
alone."

More often than not, people make choices to get approval or to
avoid disapproval. So you decide to buy an expensive outfit for a
dinner party that you can't afford, because you think your date
will like you better if you do. That's performing for approval.
And it has a high cost.

Or you'll let people violate your work boundaries so they'll
like you, keep you around, or maybe even promote you.

The Cost of Fear-Based Decisions

Making fear-based decisions to gain love, security or self-esteem
from the outside has a high cost attached to it. And it's too
high a price to pay.

THE COST IS THE CRUSHING OF YOUR SPIRIT!

And if you choose to crush your spirit, you might as well stop
breathing because you are a spiritual being having a human
experience. So if you're not going to honor your spirit you've
just wasted your life. And you will end up depressed and
questioning whether your life had any meaning.

We all have the power of the Universe waiting to provide for,
love and protect us. All you have to do is trust it and receive.
Oprah isn't any more special than you. She just trusted her
heart and the Universe. And she receives all the goodies the
Universe has for her. It has them for you too!

When you choose to honor your fears to gain love, security,
approval or self-esteem, you're telling the Universe that you
don't believe it will honor your heart's desires. And that is
exactly what happens. The cost to your heart, soul and finances
is huge!

So choose to make a trust-based decision. Trust the Universe to
bring you all the amazing goodies it has for you.

Imagine the possibilities....

Stop the Anxiety! A Quick Guide for Overcoming Panic Attacks
Copyright (c) 2009 Rochelle Melander
Right Now! Coach
http://www.rightnowcoach.com

I had my first panic attack while giving a speech. One minute I
was telling a joke and appreciating the reaction of the crowd. In
the next moment, I felt like I was watching myself from a
distance. My heart raced, my body shook, and I could not catch my
breath. I wondered how I'd be able to finish my talk without
anyone noticing. Somehow, I did finish the speech. But the panic
was not finished with me.

Over the next two years, I experienced more panic attacks.
Determined to not shrink my life, I sought help. I visited my
doctor, began therapy, and read every book available on
overcoming panic. Over time, I put together a grab bag of
resources to survive the panic attacks. They worked. More than
ten years after that first panic attack, I am nearly panic free.
When the panic starts, I know what to do to stop it. Do you? Here
are my tips to support you in overcoming panic.

First Things First

No matter how great you are at coping with panic and stress, no
matter how helpful my list of strategies might be to you, the
first steps you need to take toward healing are setting up
appointments with both a physician and a therapist.

Panic attacks can be caused by health problems and by medication
as well as by emotional stress. Your doctor can help you to
discern this and guide you toward taking the appropriate actions.

If your panic stems from past emotional wounds, a therapist can
work with you to heal these. In addition, a therapist can provide
you with coping skills that are appropriate to your specific
situation and personality.

Coping Strategies

The following strategies have helped me cope with stress and
alleviate panic attacks. I hope that they will be helpful to you
in your own journey of healing.

1. Eat Regularly

The Panic Attack Recovery Book by Shirley Swede and Seymour
Sheppard Jaffe, M.D. provides helpful dietary guidelines for
preventing anxiety. They suggest that drops in blood sugar can
induce panic attacks. Eat small, healthy meals every 2 hours
throughout the day. Keep safe snacks with you at all times in
case you get stuck waiting. In addition, keep yourself hydrated!

2. Eliminate Stimulants

Stimulants - simple sugars, caffeine, and cigarettes - can cause
you to feel the symptoms of a panic attack and, for some people,
can actually cause panic attacks. Limiting or eliminating your
use of these stimulants can help to eliminate panic attacks.

3. Breathe Deeply

Learn to breathe deeply. During a panic attack or in the midst of
a fearful moment, people tend to take frequent shallow breaths.
This style of breathing may cause you to experience tingling in
our hands and feet and to feel light-headed. Taking slow, deep
breaths can calm you. Put your hand on your stomach and breathe
in so that your stomach expands. Practice this. After you learn
how, try taking three breaths in this way whenever you experience
stress: breathe in for a count of 8 and out for a count of 7.

4. Learn Creative Visualization Techniques

Creative visualization allows you to escape the stress of the
moment and create a different reality. You can even fool your
body into believing it is experiencing the vision in your head
instead of the reality in the present. Visualize sitting in a
calm environment - at the beach or in the mountains. Imagine
yourself taking a vacation or succeeding at a challenge. Use
these creative visualizations to cope with panic, to image
success in stressful situations, and to provide yourself with a
break from the stress of daily life. As with deep breathing, the
more you practice, the better you will be able to utilize this
tool in the midst of a panic attack.

5. Practice Relaxation Exercises

In my college theater classes, our teacher taught us progressive
relaxation exercises. Now, this and other relaxation exercises
have helped me to survive daily life and childbirth! To
progressively relax yourself, find a quiet corner of your home
and lie on the floor. Beginning with your toes, tense and relax
each muscle group in your body - from your toes to your head.
When you are completely relaxed, take a moment to notice how you
feel. The more you practice this, the better you will be able to
recall this feeling in the midst of a panic episode or a
stressful situation.

6. Exercise!

Participating in daily exercise, such as walking, can relieve
stress and alleviate panic attacks. Make the time doubly
effective by using your walk as a time for prayer or meditation.
Start your walk with a question to God about your life, an
affirmation about yourself ("I am loved," "I am okay," "I am
a survivor."), or a simple prayer ("Thank You," "Bless this
moment," "Guide me.").

7. Write!

Research by psychologist James Pennebaker has shown that people
who used writing to make sense of their traumatic life
experiences had the long-lasting effect of feeling happier and
less anxious. Pick up an inexpensive notebook. Every morning,
take fifteen minutes to dump all of your negative, stressful
stuff into that notebook. Write three pages of this stuff. At the
end of writing about what is difficult, write five experiences or
people or situations that you are grateful for. (For example, "I
am grateful that I am alive," "I am grateful that the sky was a
beautiful shade of blue," "I am grateful for the smiles of
children.")

Carry a small notebook in your purse. Just as you begin to
experience the symptoms of panic or stress, write down the
following: the situation you are in, the sensations you are
feeling in your body, the thoughts you are thinking now and the
thoughts you were thinking before experiencing the first
symptoms, your present feelings and what you were feeling before
the symptoms began. As you do this, remind yourself that what you
are experiencing does not define you - it is simply something
that is happening. You are not the symptom. This exercise can
help you, over time, to pinpoint the causes of your panic
attacks. It can also relieve the symptoms of panic attacks. (I
use this exercise to control my asthma. It comes from the
wonderful book Asthma Free in Twenty-One Days by Kathryn Shafer
and Fran Greenfield.)

Connect!

New research suggests that connecting with others relieves stress
and increases our happiness. When I first experienced my symptoms
of panic, I isolated myself. That was the worst thing I could do!
No matter how challenging your panic becomes, connect with
someone daily. Join a class or group in a shared area of interest
- such as gardening or crafting. Connecting with others will
lower your stress!

Good Sleep for Good Health

Most of us have busy, hectic lives. There is always a new task to
be added to the schedule until eventually something has to give
and for many of us that something is our sleep. We look at sleep
time as cutting into our productivity and think "it's more
important to get this done than it is to sleep". But that
attitude will ultimately catch up to us. Good sleep is necessary
for good mental and physical health and if we neglect it, we will
pay the price.

The Stages Of Sleep

There are 5 different stages of sleep and we need to move through
all of them each night if we want to feel our best. We start our
sleep in stage 1 and progress to stage 5 and then go back and
forth between 2 and 5 repeatedly during the night. Stages 4 and 5
are the deepest levels of sleep called REM or Rapid Eye Movement
sleep. It is during this stage that we dream the most and
important processes in the body take place.

Chronic lack of sleep can have adverse effects on our mental and
physical health in several ways. It can cause us to gain weight,
make us prone to insulin resistance and it can speed up the aging
process.

Weight Gain

Important activities take place in the body during sleep which
contribute to health and healing. During REM sleep injured
tissues are repaired by the production of growth hormones. These
hormones stimulate the production of protein in the muscle as
well as the breakdown of fat. This helps to control the
allocation of fat to muscle in the body. Constantly missing out
on the deepest levels of sleep can lower the amount of growth
hormones thereby causing the accumulation of more fat. Lack of
sleep can also lead to a lower level of leptin which is a blood
protein that helps to regulate appetite.

Insulin Resistance

Chronic lack of sleep can also affect how the body uses
carbohydrates and glucose. In individuals who are chronically low
on sleep, blood sugar levels rise to a higher level and return to
the normal state more slowly. Their bodies also secrete a smaller
amount of insulin. Studies have shown that individuals who
experience a chronic sleep deficit will usually develop insulin
resistance.

Sleep And Aging

Not getting enough sleep can also contribute to premature aging.
Lack of sleep causes the brain to produce less than the normal
amount of hormones, which is a condition found the in the
elderly. Getting enough sleep can help to turn back the clock.

Quantity Vs. Quality

When it comes to sleep quality is as important as quantity. You
need to have sufficient time in each of the stages of sleep, to
feel your best the next day. Not getting enough sleep can lead to
irritability, lack of clear thinking and lethargy the next day.
It can also lead to a weakening of the immune system and make you
more susceptible to sickness.

Different people require different amounts of sleep. Usually
adults need around eight hours per night while children require
approximately 10 hours and infants around 16 hours per night.

If you skimp on sleep you seriously risk both your physical and
mental health. If something must be cut back in your schedule,
make sure it's not sleep. You will look and feel better for it!

Green or White, Choose Tea.

"Better to be deprived of food for three days than tea for one."

Chinese Proverb

A half a million years ago some ancient and bold adventurer
threw caution to the wind - and then threw tea leaves into a pot
of hot water and drank the brew. The rest is a storied history
of tea, a history of power and money made from selling it, a
history that has always included the belief that, above all,
drinking tea insures a long and healthy life. In this case it
turns out that the rumor is true.

Tea contains powerful anti-oxidants, substances that scavenge
for free radicals. Free radicals damage DNA and are considered
to be co-conspirators in the formation of cancer. Tea contains
polyphenols, very powerful anti-oxidants, called catechins. And
the most powerful (and studied) of these is epigallocatechin
gallate, otherwise (and mercifully) known as EGCG.

Tea is processed in several different ways, but all teas are
made from the leaf of the same plant. White tea is picked as an
immature bud and is unfermented. Green tea is picked as a
mature leaf and is unfermented. Black and Oolong teas are made
from mature leaves that are fermented to varying degrees. It is
the fermentation process that destroys some of the polyphenols,
like EGCG, and this is why the unfermented white and green teas
are better for you.

Though not yet fully understood, the health benefits of white
and green tea appear to be substantial. In 1994, a paper
published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute
revealed that Chinese women who drank green tea had a 60% lower
risk of esophageal cancer, a very common and deadly cancer in
China.

And at the University of Purdue scientists reported that green
tea reduced the growth of cancer cells.

And at the University of Kansas scientists reported that EGCG
was twice as powerful an anti-oxidant as resveratrol, the
protective substance in red wine that lowers risk for cardiac
disease.

Finally, in 2004 Pace University scientists concluded that white
tea could help the body's immune system.

Researchers are just beginning to understand and appreciate the
health-promoting benefits of polyphenols, like those found in
white and green tea, but while we wait for additional studies
and more information about the specific mechanisms by which white
and green tea impart their beneficial effects, it can't hurt to
drink 1-2 cups of white or green tea daily, especially in the
morning so that the mild dose of caffeine found in these teas
has a chance to wear off by the end of the day.

Play it safe and add white or green tea to your defensive
arsenal. Live long and prosper, healthfully.

Health Tourism is a Growing Trend in Healthcare
Copyright (c) 2009 Kevin Kielty

Many people in the United States are finding themselves out of a
job and also without valuable health insurance. When costly
medical procedures are needed, they cannot afford to have them
done in the US. Therefore, many people are traveling to foreign
countries to have the procedures done. This is called "health
tourism".

In the past, people usually traveled outside the US for non
life-threatening procedures such as cosmetic surgery or dental
surgery. However, the growing trend is for people to seek foreign
treatment for more life-threatening conditions such as heart
bypass surgery, heart valve replacements and spinal surgeries. In
some cases the cost can be as much as 90% less than it would be
in the United States. Popular destinations are Thailand, Costa
Rica and India.

As many as 85,000 Americans travel to foreign countries for
medical procedures every year. Companies are springing up to meet
the needs of this new foreign traveler. In South Carolina, Blue
Cross and Blue Shield has started the "Companion Global
Healthcare" department to assist clients seeking foreign
healthcare. They help with travel arrangements, transportation
between airport in hospital and coordination of care.

A Worldwide Trend

People from many parts of the world, not just America are
traveling to other countries to receive healthcare for various
reasons. People from Europe travel due to long waiting lists at
home, some come from the middle east because they believe the
medical personnel are more highly trained and some people travel
from Africa because they do not have access to these services in
their own country.

What To Consider

While traveling abroad for healthcare procedures can be
beneficial, there are a few things to consider first. For
example, traveling a great distance to and from the other country
can be hazardous, depending upon your condition. Anyone
considering a foreign medical care should consult with their
physician first. Some conditions such as cancer are best treated
by a doctor in your own country with whom you have an ongoing
relationship.

Investigate Ahead Of Time

Thoroughly investigate the hospital or facility you are
considering travel to. Check to make sure that they are
accredited with the Joint Commission International, to ensure
that they meet US standards. Also talk with the physician to find
out how many procedures they have done and where they received
their training.

Meet with your physician before you go and make sure they will
provide your medical records to the overseas doctors and to make
sure both sides have the other's contact information. Also
arrange aftercare before you leave. Make sure you have everything
in place for your care when you get home.

If you require a costly surgery and do not have adequate health
insurance, traveling to a foreign country for your treatment may
be an option. Contact a reputable company to assist you and meet
with your own physician to discuss the possibility of a foreign
procedure. Thoroughly investigate the foreign facility and
doctors your self. Make sure that they are an accredited facility
and meet basic guidelines before you go.

Imagine a life that is free from the shameful pains of
constipation. Imagine having a smooth, spotless, and glowing
skin. Imagine having all the energy to finish a day's job and
still be full of life at night. Imagine delicious blueberry oat
muffins that melt in your tongue. The latter is just one body
detox recipe that is not only nutritious but very beneficial as
well.

If all of the above is the result of a successful total body
detox, then it is time everybody lets go of the old lifestyle and
start living free. Besides, that one body detox recipe is just a
teaser to other equally healthful and mouthwatering meals and
drinks for body cleansing. Whoever said that detoxification is a
nasty process just didn't get to the right information.

Meanwhile, there are some basics to a body detox diet. They can
be mixed and matched during a 28-day detox period to create
variety. For the body's preparation, they can be set up in such
a way that is effective but gradual:

WHOLE GRAINS. Whole grains should be present in every meal plan.
Take note that whole grain means unprocessed foods. The effect of
whole grains in the body is to give it a feeling of fullness and
help in the passage of foods in the digestive column. Whole grain
can be in the form of bread, rice, pasta, cereals, bagels,
tortillas, and crackers.

MEAT. Meat should be in the diet only once a day at the most.
Meat products such as wild game, chicken, and eggs are preferred.
Red meat is to be minimized. The chicken should likewise be
free-range and nourished with corn. Other free-range poultry
products are included.

FISH. Fish can be eaten once to twice a day. Avoid those with
heavy metal content such as shark, swordfish, and king mackerel.
They will only disturb your body detox system. Eat more of the
salmon, sardines, and white fish.

VEGETABLES. The more vegetables you eat, the better for you. So
if you can have 4-10 servings in a day then the body is sure to
appreciate it. Also, have variety of vegetable groups in each
meal so you get to maximize different nutritional values and
achieve a total body detox. The first group is composed of the
green leafy vegetables such as watercress, lettuce, endive, kale,
spinach, and chard. The second are called the root vegetables and
they include potatoes, beet, radish, carrots, turnips, and mooli.
Other valuable vegetables are broccoli, cauliflower, squash,
green beans, leeks, celery, garlic, and onions.

FRUITS. Just like vegetables, fruits can be eaten as many times
during the day at 3 to 6 servings. Most fruits are natural body
detox wonders. Apples, bananas, kiwi, papaya, watermelon, and
sweet potato are also delicious. Avoid grapefruit though as it is
said to contain an element that hold back the liver functions.

BEVERAGES. Water will be the main superstar among the liquids.
Eight to ten glasses of purified water is recommended daily. A
lemon juice drink is likewise beneficial and should be taken an
hour before breakfast. Other equally nutritious beverages include
herbal tea, vegetable juice, and diluted fruit juice.

The 5 Steps To Clearing Up Razor Bumps
Copyright (c) 2009 Sean A. Jackson

With summer quickly approaching, more people will be shedding
their winter clothes in favor of clothes that expose more skin.
What better time to start clearing up those skin problems than
now.

For black men and women, razor bumps is probably one the most
unsightly skin problems that exist. Razor bumps can be
embarrassing in a job interview by drawing attention to your skin
rather than your credentials.

Also, women who suffer from razor bumps are often embarrassed by
wearing bathing suits in public.

It is estimated that 60% of the black men in America suffer from
razor bumps. Yet, despite the prevalence of this skin condition,
it is easily treatable.

Here are five simple steps that will help clear up your razor
bumps and prepare your skin for the summer:

Step 1 - Read The Labels Of What You Are Putting On Your Skin

Most men who shave with a razor and women as well, use shaving
foams that contain some form of alcohol. Products that contain
alcohol will dry out your skin. Dry skin is the main culprit of
causing black people to get razor bumps. Consider using oil based
shaving oils or creams.

Step 2 - Wash The Area You Are Planning To Shave

Resist the urge to immediately shave your face, legs, or pubic
area without first washing the area. You never know what could be
on your skin after being at work all day or sleeping on your bed
all night. Use a gentle cleaner so as not to dry out your skin,
but rinse away any bacteria or fungus.

Step 3 - Learn How To Shave The Right Way

When using a razor, use cold water to rinse in between strokes.
Hot water will warp your blade which can bump up your skin faster
than you can say ouch! Men should shave with the grain of the
hairs and not against the grain. Since the neck hair grows in a
different direction, change direction of the strokes when you
shave your neck.

Step 4 - Skip The After Shave

If you were James Bond or Magnum P.I., I would recommend using
the alcohol based after shave products. However , if your skin is
more like Denzel Washington or Sidney Poitier, you will need to
play to it’s strengths. I recommend using a daily moisturizer
that will also prevent break outs and is alcohol free.

Step 5 - Stop Plucking Out Those Ingrown Hair

Plucking out ingrown hairs will cause your skin to bruise and
look even worse. As your skin heals, the ingrown hairs will
become exposed. This will allow you to gently remove the tip that
has poked back into your skin, thus healing the razor bumps.

It will take time to heal your skin. However, if you use the
above steps you will begin to treat your skin better and with
time your skin will look great for any season!

currently developed the best way to treat razor bumps. To find

razor bumps and dry skin, visit his website at:

Disposable Particulate Respirators

http://www.criticaltool.com/

Disposable particulate respirators come in a variety styles and
are meant to protect workers from nonhazardous contaminants in
the workplace. These types of respirators are one category of
air-purifying respirator.

The filtering material in the disposable respirator can be made
of cloth or paper. This filtering material cleans the air as the
wearer breathes. Some disposable particulate respirators (dust
masks) are used to control nuisance contaminants such as dust,
nonhazardous fibers, animal dander, and pollen. Other disposable
respirators can have added features for use with aerosols, mists,
fumes, and dusts. Disposable particulate respirators are not mean
for use where hazardous chemicals are present and the chemical
needs to be filtered from the air (air-purifying respirators that
utilize chemical-specific filter cartridges would be used in an
instance such as this).

While disposable respirators are convenient, there are
limitations, and workers need to be made aware of these
limitations and the guidelines for wearing disposable respirators
in order to wear them safely.

Disposable respirator used in the workplace should be certified
by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
(NIOSH). Disposable respirators should be matched to their
intended use. The following table summarizes the various types of
disposable particulate respirators:

Type: Description

N95: The N95 disposable respirator filters at least 95% of
airborne particles. It is not resistant to oil.

N99: N99 respirators filter out at least 99% of airborne
particles. It is not resistant to oil.

N100: This disposable respirator filters at least 99.97% of
airborne particles. It is not resistant to oil.

R95: The NR95 disposable respirator filters at least 95% of
airborne particles. It is somewhat resistant to oil.

R99: R99 respirators filter out at least 99% of airborne
particles. It is somewhat resistant to oil.

R100: This disposable respirator filters at least 99.97% of
airborne particles. It is somewhat resistant to oil.

P95: The P95 disposable respirator filters at least 95% of
airborne particles. It is strongly resistant to oil.

P99: P99 respirators filter out at least 99% of airborne
particles. It is strongly resistant to oil.

P100: This disposable respirator filters at least 99.97% of
airborne particles. It is strongly resistant to oil.

(Note: There are currently no NIOSH-approved R99, R100, or P99
disposable particulate respirators.)

"Dust masks," like those often found at hardware stores, that
do not carry one of the ratings listed in the table above are far
less effective and should not be used where respirators are
needed for worker protection in fulfillment of regulatory
requirements.

Fit Testing

Disposable particulate respirators are not excluded from OSHA
requirements for fit testing.

Medical Evaluation

If respirator use is required in the workplace and disposable
respirators are part of that requirement, you must have your
workers medically evaluated in order to ensure that they can wear
the respirator safely.

When To Replace

Disposable particulate respirators become more efficient as
particles are trapped in the filter media. However, like all
filters, they have a limit. Respirators should be replaced when
breathing while using the respirator becomes difficult.

When Respirator Use Is Not Required

Sometimes, workers may want to wear respirators in the workplace
even though they are not required. Most often, the type of
respirator worn in a voluntary situation is a disposable
particulate respirator. Regardless of whether the voluntarily
worn respirator is a disposable respirator or some other type of
air-purifying respirator, employers still have some obligations
under OSHA regulations - albeit fewer than when respiratory
protection is mandatory.

In order for workers to wear respirators on a voluntary basis,
you must determine that wearing a respirator will not in itself
create a hazard. If you determine that voluntary respirator use
is permissible, you must provide the respirator users with the
information contained in Appendix D of 29 CFR 1910.134. Also,
according to OSHA, you must, "implement those elements of the
written respiratory protection program necessary to ensure that
any employee using a respirator voluntarily is medically able to
use that respirator, and that the respirator is cleaned, stored,
and maintained so its use does not present a health hazard to the
user." However, OSHA further states that you are not required
"to include in a written respiratory program those employees
whose only use of respirators involves the voluntary use of
filtering facepieces (dust masks)."

Body Detox Diet Do's and Don'ts
Copyright (c) 2009 John Khu
Body Detox Tips
http://www.bodydetoxtips.com/

With so many body detox plans offered everywhere, it can be quite
confusing which ones to follow and which ones to avoid. For
something as important and as sensitive as a whole body detox,
you should be able to arm yourself with the right kind of
information. A good way to start is to get in touch with a body
detox diet that you know you can be confident with.

So what should be in and what should be out of your body detox
diet? While there will be some types of food that will be
completely shunned from your meal plate, there will also be those
which will still be included but to a minimal degree. The goal
really is to include those that will enhance the natural body
detox mechanism of the system as well as boost the immune
structure to make it strong against diseases.

Approved Body Detox Diet Principles

  * Include bioflavonoids in your meals. Bioflavonoids may sound
new but it just actually pertains to the healthful nutrients that
can be found in citrus fruits, buckwheat, onion, and garlic. They
contain antioxidants that prevent toxic free radicals that damage
the cells in the body.

  * Eat more of the pulses, vegetables, and whole grains. These
foods include a number of nutrients but are especially rich in
Vitamin B. Vitamin B helps keep a healthy liver, which is the
main body detox system responsible for cleansing the blood from
toxins and impurities.

  * Go natural and organic. There are foods that are great as they
are than when they are cooked. This is especially true when it
comes to tomatoes, peppers, cabbages, grapefruit, and oranges.
All of them are rich in Vitamin C that is the winner in achieving
a strong immune system.

Eliminated/Minimized in the Body Detox Diet

i) Lots and lots of salt. Some people have been so used to the
salty taste in their meals that they don't find it delicious
unless it's saline. What they are not aware of is that they will
come to appreciate the natural taste of the food combination more
when they do not add salt to their meals. Besides, salt is
definitely toxic!

ii) Processed sugars and combined carbohydrates. Every after
meal, it is tempting to get a candy from the jar or finish off
with a bag of chips. While these foods give zero calories, they
also cause the insulin levels in the body to get unstable. So if
you don't want to be a victim of depression, shun junk food from
your body detox diet permanently.

iii) Bottles or cases of alcohol. When it is time to party, the
temptation to drown oneself in alcohol and enjoy the instant
euphoria can be very strong. Meanwhile, it is also common
knowledge that many people suffer from liver diseases or worst
liver cancer. So if you are totally serious about your body detox
program, enjoy the party without the alcohol and wake in the
morning feeling fresh and happy.

Certainly, adhering to a body detox diet is not an easy job. But
once you get started, you will feel that this new lifestyle is
much better than your old one.

Chemical Protective Glove Materials

Chemical protective gloves come in a variety of materials.
Unfortunately, no one material will work for all situations, so
it's important to know what the materials are and their uses and
limitations. What follows is a summary of chemical protective
glove materials.

Glove Materials

  * Butyl is a synthetic rubber. Butyl rubber gloves generally
have good resistance to a wide variety of chemicals, including
aldehydes, ketones, and esters. They also are more wear resistant
than other chemical protective gloves. Butyl gloves are generally
more expensive than other glove materials.

  * Rubber (also called latex) is made from liquid obtained from
rubber plants. Natural rubber gloves are elastic and resilient.
They resist acids, alkalis, salts, and ketones but generally have
minimal chemical resistance to other substances; however, when
combined with other materials, it is used in a broad range of
applications. Natural rubber gloves are often used as exam gloves
in the health care industry and find use in food processing,
electronics assembly, and laboratory chemical handling. Because
of the potential for latex allergy, which can be life
threatening, latex gloves are not used as widely as they once
were.

  * Neoprene is a synthetic rubber. Neoprene gloves have chemical-
and wear-resistance properties superior to those of latex
(natural rubber) gloves. Neoprene gloves are resistant to acids,
caustics, alcohols, inks, refrigerants, ketones, oils, fats,
grease, fertilizers, cleaners, and detergent. They find use in
the petrochemical industry, degreasing, chemical processing,
metal finishing, mechanical work, painting, bleaching, and
commercial dishwashing.

  * Nitrile (also referred to as NBR or acrylonitrile) is a
copolymer. Nitrile gloves are puncture and abrasion resistant.
Nitrile gloves also provide excellent, wide-range chemical
protection from a variety of substances, including petroleum
solvents, caustics, and animal fats. They find use in chemical
and food processing, stripping and degreasing, motor and engine
manufacturing, machine operation using cutting oils and coolants,
electronics, and acid etching.

  * Vinyl gloves are gloves made from polymers. The two most
common are polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA).
Polyvinyl alcohol is a water soluble polymer that is resistant to
organic solvents that can rapidly permeate most rubbers. Because
it is water soluble, PVA is often used as a coating or blended
with other materials when used in gloves. Polyvinyl chloride is a
stiff polymer. In order to make it suitable for use in chemical
protective gloves, plasticizers are added. Vinyl gloves resist
acids and alcohols but not petroleum solvents. They are less
costly than natural rubber latex gloves and so are often used as
a substitute for latex gloves. Vinyl gloves are used in
industrial and food processing applications, intricate assembly
work, laboratory research, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

  * Viton(r) is a registered trademark of DuPont for a synthetic
elastomer. Gloves made from Viton are highly chemical-resistant,
particularly to chlorinated and aromatic organic solvents. Viton
gloves tend to be more expensive than those made from other
materials.

  * Laminate gloves are gloves that are made from a combination of
materials. Laminate gloves combine materials in order to increase
the usability of the glove either over a wider range of chemicals
or for harsher environments (hazardous waste cleanup, for
example). Even more so than single material gloves, the
performance of laminate gloves are manufacturer-specific, and the
manufacturer's literature on the glove should be consulted to
determine the glove's performance capabilities.

A Word About Disposable Versus Reusable Glove

Some gloves are disposable, and some are reusable. The difference
in reusable versus disposable is not necessarily the material
it's made from; it's more about chemical resistance, wear
resistance, and thickness. Disposable gloves are thin, single-use
glove that are generally 4 to 8 mils thick (a mil is 0.001 inch)
- a good example of a disposable glove is exam gloves used in
health care settings. Reusable gloves are thicker - 18 to 28 mils
thick. (To determine the thickness of a glove, check the
manufacturer's specifications on the glove. It will either tell
you the thickness or indicate whether the glove is disposable or
reusable.)

Disposable gloves are not suitable for handling aggressive or
highly hazardous chemicals. Disposable gloves do provide barrier
protection where contact with chemicals is not likely, for
example, in food processing or where the issue is dirt or
prevention of human-produced contamination (as is necessary in
clean rooms or health care). Disposable gloves do not hold up
well to cleaning and should not be washed and reused.

Starting an Exercise Program for Better Health
Copyright (c) 2009 Kevin Kielty

We are all well aware of the importance of exercise. Studies
constantly come out showing that exercise can reverse many
serious health problems and increase our longevity. Americans
spend more on health and exercise equipment than any other
country. Yet few of us follow through on an exercise regime. The
main reason for this is time. It can be hard to find time in a
busy schedule to include an hour or more at the gym. By starting
with a manageable schedule and choosing something you enjoy, you
can begin an exercise program and stick with it.

Be sure to see your doctor before you begin your new exercise
program, especially if you have not been active in a long time.

Start Small

Begin your exercise regime slowly. Jumping in too fast can lead
to injury which will definitely decrease your desire to stick
with it. Do not expect too much too fast. Start out with small
goals that you can measure.

Choose a small amount of time each day such as 10 minutes and
schedule it into your daily routine. Do not let exercise to be
the thing that gets cut out of your schedule when you get busier.
Think of it as a regular part of your daily duties such as
brushing your hair or flossing your teeth.

Before you begin, remember to do some warm-up exercises. Warming
up prepares your muscles for the exercise and helps to prevent
injury. Do about 5 to 10 minutes of jumping jacks or a slow jog.
If at any time during your exercise you begin to feel pain, just
stop. If you keep going it could lead to injury. Drink plenty of
water before you start and have an extra glass if it’s a hot day.
Don’t exercise on an empty stomach especially if you do your
routine first thing in the morning.

Make It Enjoyable

The most important thing you can do when starting an exercise
regime is to choose something that you enjoy. If you have always
wanted to learn to dance, sign up for dance lessons. Take a
beginner aerobics course at a gym or join a tennis league. Aim
for about 30 minutes of physical activity per day.

One of the best exercises for the beginner is walking. You can
easily adjust the intensity and length of your workout, and
increase both as you become more fit. It can be done at any time
that best fits into your day. Studies have shown that walking can
combat health problems such as diabetes, high cholesterol and
high blood pressure.

Exercising can be especially valuable for women in combating bone
loss which comes with age. As women get older they begin to lose
about 1% of their bone mass per year. Following menopause it
increases to 3% per year. Weight bearing exercise stimulates the
bone to make new bone cells.

To enjoy the health benefits of exercise you have to make it part
of your daily routine. Start by doing something you enjoy or even
began with walking. Schedule exercise into your daily routine and
do a little each day. Before you know it you will be healthier
than ever before!

CPAP Masks: Solving 3 Common Problems

For some people, just the thought of having to secure a plastic
mask to their face is unpleasant. Sleep is a precious commodity
to all. But it is particularly precious to the people suffering
from sleep apnea. The idea of sleep which many of us take for
granted now becomes a monumental undertaking. New and improved
CPAP machines are built to be exceptionally quiet and compact.
However, the CPAP mask remains the number one complaint with CPAP
equipment users. Speaking with many clients over the years, we
have identified the three most common complaints and offer
solutions to help get the rest you need and enhance your
lifestyle.

Itchy And Dry Nose/Mouth

After numerous tries on various masks CPAP masks
(http://www.thecpapshop.com/cpap-nasal-masks.html), you have
finally found a comfortable cpap mask which fits all the
intricacies of your face. This, as most CPAP users are acutely
aware, is no small feat. Even though your mask fits comfortably
on your face, you may still be hindered by a problem common to
many users - continual dry mouth and/or stuffy nose. A simple
and cost effective solution to this issue is the addition of a
heated humidifier to your CPAP machine. Using a heated
humidifier will help decrease nasal congestion and stuffiness
which results in a more comfortable CPAP experience and a more
rested feeling when you wake up.

Newer style CPAP machines often come with an integrated heated
humidifier. These integrated units are still quite small and
considered very travel friendly. Even older CPAP machines can
make use of a universal stand-alone heated humidifier such as the
Velocity Heated Humidifier. Additionally, an improperly sealed
CPAP mask can also produce a dry feeling in the nose and throat.
It is vital to inspect your CPAP mask continuously to make sure
that the silicone or gel cushion has not broken down and is still
providing an effective seal. Generally, these cushions should be
replaced within 3 to 6 months of constant use to maintain
efficacy.

Facial Marks And Nose Sores

For the most effective results, CPAP users need to ensure the
mask has an effective and comfortable seal around the nose or the
nose and mouth. We have spoken to hundreds of patients and found
that CPAP users commonly mention facial marks and nose sores are
an irritant. This issue is generally caused by over-tightening
of the mask straps. CPAP masks are designed to produce an
effective seal without applying significant amounts of pressure
to the face. In fact, if you are over-tightening your mask, it
is probably time for a new cushion or complete mask.
Nevertheless, a simple but effective solution is to put the mask
on while in bed.

While you are lying in bed, place the mask on your face and
connect the headgear so the mask is snug but not tight. A CPAP
mask is designed to have an evenly distributed seal. By placing
the mask on while lying down, it allows for a proper fit during
sleeping. Make sure that your mask fits snuggly but not to lose
as this will cause air to escape. If there is too much tension
toward the top of the mask, it can cause sores at the bridge of
the nose.

While finding a comfortable CPAP mask is ideal, having an
appropriately sized mask is crucial to effective CPAP treatment.
Many of the new style masks have implemented gel or an inflatable
type cushions that compensate for movements in any direction.
These types of masks allow for an improved seal without needing
to over-tighten the mask straps. The Respironics Comfort Gel
nasal mask and the Resmed Mirage Activa LT are two excellent
examples of this technology. Furthermore, masks such as the
Resmed Mirage Micro LT have an adjustable forehead assembly that
can be easily modified to suit each user's profile.

Cpap Pressure Tolerance

Most first-time users experience the unpleasant feeling of CPAP
air pressure immediately. The pressure is delivered from the
CPAP machine, through a tube and into the CPAP mask generally at
a fixed rate. This sensation, which can be uncomfortable to new
users, will be alleviated by using the ramp feature on your CPAP
machine. The ramp feature allows the CPAP pressure to gradually
increase over a period of time. For example, if your CPAP
pressure is 13cm/H20, you may find it more relaxing to have the
CPAP pressure start at 4cm/H20 and then "ramp up" over 20
minutes, at which time the CPAP machine will reach its prescribed
setting. This is usually accomplished while you are drifting
off to sleep so it is less intrusive. Most of the high-end CPAP
machines (auto adjusting) have a ramp feature that is automatic
and does not require manual adjustments. By using this feature
properly, the CPAP user should become accustomed to the
prescribed pressure and have less trouble securing your CPAP
mask. If problems continue, please consult with your sleep
specialist.

Conclusion

These three commonly encountered CPAP issues are all solvable.
Understanding the solutions will ensure better compliance,
provide CPAP users with a more effective treatment and aid you
in achieving improved sleep. This, in turn, will positively
affect quality of life and reduce the negative issues associated
with CPAP.

Cancer Risks and Health

Cancer is the second major cause of death in the United States.
More than half a million of us to die of cancer every year. Most
cancers occur in people age 55 and over. The best defense for
many types of cancer is early detection therefore, it is
important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, have regular checkups
with your doctor and report any unusual symptoms.

Cancer is the result of changes in the genes that control cell
growth. In a healthy cell, the genes will tell it when to stop
reproducing, to mend any damage or to destroy itself if the
damage cannot be repaired. However, a damaged cell will override
these messages and continue to reproduce more damaged cells.

While we cannot control all of our risks for cancer, there are
some things we can do that will help to lower our chances of
getting some of the more common types of cancer.

Skin Cancer

The most common type of cancer is skin cancer and the two most
common types of skin cancer are squamous cell cancer and basal
cell cancer. Squamous cell cancer can spread throughout the body
while basal cell cancer usually does not. Both types of skin
cancer typically start on the parts of the body that are mostly
exposed to the sun such as the face, hands or arms.

Risk factors for developing skin cancer include being fair
skinned, a history of spending great amounts of time in the sun,
getting many sunburns as a child, and having light-colored hair
and green or blue eyes.

Sun protection is the primary way to avoid skin cancer. Always
use plenty of sunscreen and reapply it every two hours and after
sweating or swimming. Also avoid tanning beds and sun exposure
between the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the primary cause of cancer death in the United
States. Every year or it kills more people than any other type of
cancer. When lung cancer begins, there may be no symptoms at all.
It can take years for the cancer to progress before any problems
are noticed.

Risk factors for developing lung cancer include smoking and being
exposed to secondhand smoke, family history and exposure to radon
gas.

The best way to prevent lung cancer is to either stop smoking,
avoid secondhand smoke and check the radon levels in your house.

Colon Cancer

Colon cancer is the second major cause of cancer death in the
United States. A major risk factor in developing colon cancer is
family history. If there are many people in your family who have
developed colon cancer you will probably require regular
colonoscopies. The risk of developing colon cancer increases with
age. Most people who are diagnosed are over age 50. Other risk
factors include a diet that is high in fat and low in fiber,
folic acid and calcium.

The primary way to prevent colon cancer is a colonoscopy. If you
do not have a family history of colon cancer your doctor may
recommend a colonoscopy when you turn 50. If there is a strong
family history of colon cancer, your doctor may recommend one
sooner.

Family history and environmental factors effects whether or not a
person will develop cancer. Although we cannot control the genes
that we inherit, it is important to know what environmental
factors affect our cancer risks and take steps to change those
things so that we can live healthy and cancer-free lives.

Many Things CAN Make A Difference With Breast Cancer

"Advances Elusive in the Long Drive to Cure Cancer" by Gina
Kolata's on the front page of the New York Times seemed to cast
a depressing shadow across the busy landscape of dedicated
researchers, clinicians and patients who are fighting the war on
cancer all across the country.

She remarked, "only a very few things make a difference" - to
which I would reply, NOT SO!
Kolata pointed out that deaths from cardiac disease have fallen
64% in the past 55 years (primarily because many Americans have
stopped smoking, altered their diets, increased their physical
activity and taken medications that are known to decrease their
risk of heart attacks and stroke) but, by comparison, cancer
deaths have dropped by only 5%. But what have Americans done to
understand more fully the causes cancer and what have we done to
aggressively prevent the disease? Not much, I'd say.

Let me speak from my own professional perspective about breast
cancer.

In 2005, the World Health Organization declared birth control
pills to be Group I carcinogens, known to cause cancer in
humans. Yet every day around the world 100 million women take the
pill, and everyday they excrete the hormone metabolites of these
pills into our shared environment. The package inserts that the
FDA requires in every pack of oral contraceptives fails to
mention the WHO warning; instead the insert equivocates about
the risk of breast cancer, crafting a message that seemingly
minimizes the danger. What could be done to better educate women
about this risk and thus prevent new cases of breast cancer?
Better education about the increased risk of breast cancer
associated with the use of oral contraceptives would obviously
be a cost-effective way to prevent it, saving money, lives, and
breasts in the process.

In 2003 when medical researchers concluded that hormone
replacement therapy directly causes breast cancer millions of
women (themselves) promptly stopped taking these pills. Within
just a few years the number of new cases of breast cancer began
to fall. Where is the public policy that supports this wise,
spontaneous grass-roots movement away from HRT? Are we waiting
for stone tablets to appear from behind a burning bush with a
new commandment, "Don't use exogenous hormones"?

Cigarette smoking has long been known to cause breast cancer.
Why are there no aggressive anti-smoking policies and
initiatives in place, either by our public health officials or by
the large and impressively organized breast cancer foundations,
to combat this known breast cancer carcinogen?

The "fads" that Kolata suggested including the belief that
viruses are possible causes of cancer, ARE NOT FADs. At least
six viruses have been proven to cause cancer - one of them, the
human papilloma virus, now has a vaccine that prevents the
cervical cancer it causes, and its discoverers have Nobel Prizes
for their work. Furthermore, there is convincing evidence that
as much as 40% of all breast cancer is caused by a virus. (I am
presently writing the second edition of my book, The Pink Virus,
in hopes that I can create a tipping point for research on this
breast cancer-causing virus and help fund the work of Dr.
Beatriz Pogo whose funds have been cut.) Kolata is right, "just
eating right and exercising" won't help you much if you have a
virus that causes breast cancer, so we need to do more to
investigate this possibility, and we shouldn't have to wait
several more decades before we answer the question, "Does a
virus cause breast cancer in women?"

Did Phyllis Kutt, the woman with end-stage breast cancer who was
featured in Kolata's article, ever use oral contraceptives? Did
she bump into the mountain of hormonal metabolites circulating
in our environment? Did a virus cause her breast cancer? If we
can answer these questions, and others, we can move out of the
shadow cast by Kolata's article and into the sunshine where we
prevent cancer. We need to more than walk, run, dance and hope
for a cure - we need to understand its causes and prevent it.

Indeed, as Kolata suggested, "grim facts can be lost among the
positive messages" - but not on my website,
breasthealthandhealing.org I prominently display the "Breast
Cancer Counter" (patterned after the national debt clock that
runs at a fast and furious pace in Times Square) to remind
everyone who visits my homepage that the numbers of women with
new cases of breast cancer, and the numbers of new women dying
of breast cancer all over the world, are climbing inexorably.
The mission of my foundation, The Breast Health And Healing
Foundation, is to DISCOVER THE SPECIFIC CAUSES OF BREAST CANCER
AND TO USE THAT KNOWLEDGE TO PREVENT THE DISEASE. I don't hide
the grim facts: I try to keep them in mind as I work for a
fresh approach - toward understanding and prevention, the PURE
CURE.

President Obama has decided that he wants to increase funding
for cancer research by 30% over the next two years. Good.
Excellent idea. My suggestion is that the money be spent
researching ways to get the information we presently have about
how to prevent cancer circulating more effectively, rather than
to spend it trying to find clever (and always expensive)
interventions that may only postpone cancer death by just a few
weeks.

Pregnancy-Associated Breast Cancer: The Truth...Is Not Yet Known

"It's not that people are ignorant, but that they know so many
things that just ain't true."
MARK TWAIN

The banner headline on the Susan G. Komen For The Cure website
homepage, "Pregnant Women with Breast Cancer Do Not Have Worse
Outcomes" is unfortunately somewhat misleading. Perhaps the
editor should have read the paper published by Dr. Beadle more
closely. What Dr. Beadle actually reported in her article
published in the March 15, 2009 issue of Cancer was:

"The lack of a statistically significant correlation between
the diagnosis of pregnancy-associated breast cancer and a worse
outcome does not necessarily preclude a true association."

Which is to say, Dr. Beadle cannot say for certain that young
women who are diagnosed with breast cancer when they are
pregnant have the same prognosis as non-pregnant women their same
age. Dr. Beadle goes into great detail to explain the many
flaws in her otherwise excellent study of 652 women, less than 35
years old, who were treated at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
between 1973 and 2006. Dr. Beadle was very thorough in
explaining that the data, though suggestive, were not
definitive. Indeed, it is too soon to jump to conclusions. We've
been down that wrong road before - with hormone replacement
therapy and, more recently, with daily use of alcohol - and it
is not yet clear what the true story is regarding pregnancy and
breast cancer; so, beware banner headlines that proclaim
conclusions that are not yet certain.

In fact, young women who develop breast cancer when they are
pregnant may, indeed, have a worse prognosis and a decreased
survival. We've not studied enough women to be certain about
this. Dr. Beadle went to great lengths to make sure the reader
understood that there are still some missing pieces to this
puzzle, still many things to learn and discover about breast
cancer that occurs in young women when they are pregnant.

Overall, all young women who develop breast cancer have a dismal
prognosis. Pregnancy may or may not make things worse. I hope
that Dr. Beadle and other researchers will be able to clarify
the true character of pregnancy-associated breast cancer in the
near future. But at the present time we simply do not know for
sure whether or not a pregnancy confers a worse outcome for
young women with breast cancer.

The news media and their ambitious headlines typically try to
grab for a hook that will capture a reader, but in their clamor
to be noticed they often fall short of the mark of accurate
reporting. We may forgive CNN for these hungry oversights for
we know they are going for the sensational, not the substantive.
But when the leading breast cancer foundation falls short in
reporting the results of an important paper such as this it
leaves all women less, not more informed. It is a
disappointment, to say the least.

Why So Many Unnecessary Mastectomies?

As if the collapse of the world financial system isn't enough to
set one's nerves on edge, a study just published in the Journal
of Clinical Oncology reveals yet another alarming trend: during
the past several years the percentage of women with non-invasive
breast cancer (DCIS) who have their breasts removed entirely
(mastectomy) has increased 188%! Since mastectomy is not at all
required to treat the vast majority of patients with DCIS, the
looming question then becomes "Why are all of these women having
their breasts removed?"

Allow me to review some important facts. Non-invasive breast
cancer (DCIS, commonly known as ductal carcinoma in-situ) is not
life threatening. It is the earliest stage of breast cancer and
it does not have the ability to move beyond the breast tissue to
invade other organs of the body. Unless DCIS is very large at
the time of diagnosis, which is seldom the case these days, it
is very adequately treated with lumpectomy and radiation therapy.
Most of the time DCIS is diagnosed by mammography and is
relatively small in size. Typically, it cannot be felt as a lump
and is seen only as microcalcifications on a mammogram. The
chance that DCIS will recur after proper treatment is
approximately 1 in 100 women diagnosed with the disease per
year. Which is to say, at ten years of follow-up, 10 women in 100
with DCIS might have had a recurrence and the other 90 will be
completely free of disease. So why are all of these breasts
coming off? And, furthermore, why are so many women having
their other perfectly normal breast removed at the same time?

The study reported in the Journal of Clinical Oncology was not
meant to try to answer these questions but rather it was meant
to report the "state of play." Nonetheless, I think it is fair
to wonder why all of these breasts are being removed if they
don't have to be. My own suspicion, after spending the past
fifteen years rescuing women and their breasts from overly
aggressive surgeons, is that women are being unnecessarily
frightened and coaxed into aggressive surgery in the false
belief that this will provide an improved survival. Of course,
most women are naturally afraid of breast cancer. And when they
are diagnosed with the disease they are usually surprised and
alarmed. They are vulnerable to any suggestion they think might
improve their chances of "cure" and they want to do everything
they think might help them "beat the disease." I believe these
women are being subtly encouraged to have mastectomies that they
do not need and that will not add one day to their life.

A few more facts: women who have been diagnosed with DCIS have
an increased risk of developing a similar breast cancer in the
opposite breast. However, the risk of "contralateral" breast
cancer is also very small - only about 1 in 100 women with DCIS
will develop disease in the opposite breast every year following
their initial diagnosis. (And medications, like tamoxifen and
arimidex, reduce this already small risk even further.) To put
it another way: after 10 years of follow-up, 90% of women have
not developed disease in the opposite breast. And those that do
can be treated with lumpectomy and radiation therapy - as can be
done for the original tumor. Mastectomy is not necessary to
properly and adequately treat DCIS! Furthermore, it is
certainly not necessary to remove a perfectly normal breast that
in 90% of women will not develop a breast cancer over the
subsequent ten years following diagnosis of the original disease.

If 90% of women with DCIS do not develop disease in the opposite
breast during the ten years following their first treatment, why
(all of a sudden) is there such a stampede for contralateral
prophylactic mastectomy? Does this have something to do with
the increasing numbers of plastic surgeons on the market?
Perhaps, I can't be sure. But I do know one thing - these
mastectomies are not necessary. The fact that prophylactic
mastectomies have increased by 188% is nothing short of alarming.

In the recent report even women with DCIS in one breast who
underwent breast-conservation in the breast that had the cancer
had a 148% increased incidence of prophylactic mastectomy in the
opposite breast - the perfectly normal breast! So, the breast
with the cancer is "saved" and the perfectly normal breast is
removed! This is just plain crazy. The breast that has the
cancer gets to "live" and the opposite breast, without the
cancer, has to go. What planet are we living on?

Even though removal of the breast certainly reduces the
likelihood that a breast cancer can grow there, it does not add
one day to the overall survival of the patient. So, what's the
point? If prophylactic mastectomy is offered in order to reduce
the anxiety and worry that the cancer might come back, or that
it might occur in the opposite breast, I think women need to know
that the risk of this happening is rather small: only 1% per
year for every 100 women with the disease. This fact ought to
reduce the patient's anxiety considerably. It certainly has for
my patients.

The proof that overall survival is not compromised by
breast-conservation and radiation therapy has been documented
repeatedly in dozens of studies conducted all over the world.
In my own experience, when the Cancer Registry at my hospital,
Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, New Jersey, reviewed
my patients with DCIS they found that I performed 50% fewer
mastectomies than other surgeons at my hospital, in my state and
(on average) around the country. They also discovered that the
recurrence rate for my patients was ten times lower than
elsewhere in the state or the nation.

Again, in the vast majority of cases mastectomies for DCIS are
not necessary. Recurrence of breast cancer is low if the
disease is treated properly; overall survival is well maintained.
Women do not have to sacrifice their breasts in order to save
their lives. In summary, women with DCIS should not be
frightened into having unnecessary surgeries that are risky,
mutilating and provide no survival advantage.

I am certainly in favor of preventing breast cancer. I am
particularly interested in preventing the recurrence of breast
cancer. But the most important thing is to reassure women and
give them the correct information about their true risks. DCIS
is a non-invasive breast cancer. It does not threaten a woman's
life. It can be treated very well with lumpectomy and radiation
therapy. A woman with DCIS can keep her breast. She does not
need mastectomy. She can keep her opposite breast also. If she
should develop breast cancer in the opposite breast she can have
breast-conservation with radiation therapy on that breast, too.

If women understood that mastectomies do not increase their
survival, if women fully understood that breast-conservation is
perfectly acceptable as treatment for DCIS, then I believe there
would be far fewer therapeutic or contralateral "prophylactic"
mastectomies. Those few women who feel that they cannot
tolerate the anxiety that DCIS might recur can surely have
mastectomy: but they will be few and far between, I am sure.

I wish more women were given the proper counseling, reassured
about the relatively low risk of recurrence of DCIS and offered
the least treatment that will provide cure and relative peace of
mind - breast conservation and radiation therapy. Hopefully,
this message will gain enough currency in cyberspace to help new
patients with DCIS save their breasts as they strive to save
their lives.
