Volatile Organic Compound Levels In The Home

Volatile organic compound also known as VOCs are common indoor
pollutants composed of organic chemicals that evaporate into the
air easily at room temperatures. VOCs often cause chemical odors,
respiratory irritation, headache, and other indoor air quality
related complaints. At certain high levels they can be dangerous.
These chemicals are released by paints, paint thinners, varnish,
new carpets, new cabinets and furniture that contains particle
board, household cleaners and air fresheners, gasoline,
improperly vented combustion devices, photocopier machines,
blueprint machines, and many other sources. All buildings contain
some level of volatile organic compounds, determining what are
normal levels and what are elevated levels is important in
diagnosing a buildings indoor air quality. The following
information gives some idea of what are normal and what are
elevated VOC levels.
Global consensus has resulted in the emergence of preliminary
guidelines or tVOC standards for IAQ (Australian NHMRC, 1993;
Finnish society of IAQ, 1995: Seifert, 1999: Hong Kong EPA, 1999;
Japan MoH, 2000).
Depending on Location (home, school, etc. ), recommended levels
range from 200 to 1300 ug/m3 or about 50 to 325 ppb or .05 to
.325 ppm (Toluene units) or approximately 100 to 650 ppb .1 to
.650 ppm isobutylene units.
By all accounts the IAQ tVOC threshold for normal environments
should not exceed 500 ppb (0.5 ppm) Toluene units, which is
equivalent to 1000 ppb (1ppm) isobutylene units.
Field experience suggests the following guide for the use of PIDs
to assess indoor environments:
Less than 100 ppb or (.1ppm) isobutylene units: normal outdoor
air
100-400 ppb or (.1-.4ppm) isobutylene units normal indoor air
500 + ppb or (.5ppm) + isobutylene units: indicates potential of
IAQ contaminants
Reference RAE Systems Application Note AP-212
In summary the above states that the general consensus among most
experts is that recommended indoor levels of total volatile
organic compounds is .1 to .6 ppm isobutylene units.
Indoor levels above .5ppm isobutylene units indicates potential
contamination and levels should not exceed 1ppm isobutylene
units.
Please keep in mind that the above applies to homes offices and
schools etc. Exposure limits allowed in industrial settings will
be much higher.

Toxic Mold Inspectors Health Effects And Scientifc Literature

We have recently seen that some mold inspectors are quoting the
article titled "Indoor Mold, Toxigenic Fungi, and Stachybotrys
chartarum" and other similar scientific articles to support the
belief that toxic molds poison people in their homes. A link to
the article is listed below. It looks as if the article is
stating that toxic molds are very toxic to homeowners or even
deadly. Mold inspectors who hastily review such articles come to
such conclusions because they do not understand what the highly
technical scientific article is talking about. This and other
similar articles on the topic of toxic mold effects are
discussing not what happens when a home owner breathes in mold
spores released by Stachybotrys or other toxic molds. The article
is talking about the effects of toxic mold toxins / mycotoxins
when these toxins are eating in foods contaminated with toxic
molds, or the effects of mold toxins when animals in the lab are
injected with mold toxins directly into the body or nasal
passages. Sometimes such articles site cases where industry
workers were made ill by toxic mold exposure after working around
clouds of organic dust and mold spores for extended periods of
time. Such conditions contain millions of spores per cubic meter
or air as opposed to the hundreds or thousands of spores
encountered in most moldy homes and offices. This article may
have been used by mold inspectors to support the view that toxic
molds will poison you. In fact, this article and many others have
been taken out of context. This article and other scientific
articles like it support the view that there is no solid evidence
that toxic mold will poison you when breathed in at levels found
in even very moldy homes. Such articles do not typically state
that it could never happen, but that there is not significant
scientific evidence that mold in levels found in residential and
office setting has poisoned people.
What Can Mold Do
* Toxic or not toxic mold is not trivial, in fact mold growth in
your home or office can cause serious non toxin related health
problems such as severe allergy or asthma. Such conditions can be
more serious and more debilitating than many people realize.
* Mold can make your home uninhabitable for your family and
nearly impossible for you to sell. Selling a home with a mold
problem that you hide can easily get you and your Realtor sued.
We have seen many homes, condos, and trailers, from Key West to
Miami, and West Palm Beach empty because they were to moldy to
live in and just entering the properties can be quite unpleasant.
* Ignored mold problems can get worse over time and can become
extremely difficult and expensive to resolve. Ignoring a mold
problem can cause a two thousand dollar mold removal job to
become a two hundred thousand dollar mold removal job.
* Mold can cause flu-like symptoms in mold removal workers if
they are not wearing proper protective gear.
* Mold can cause serious and even deadly infections, but this
typically occurs in persons who have a weak immune system. In
2006 we conducted an inspection for a Miami resident who had
Aspergillus mold growing in her lungs, and in 2008 we conducted
an investigation for a West Palm Beach lady who had just
recovered from mucormycosis. This is a condition where fast
growing molds grow in the sinuses. This condition is more serious
than your typical sinus infection. In fact, it can lead to death
in a few days.
* Mold can create foul smelling microbial volatile organic
compounds that in turn cause irritation resulting in allergy like
symptoms and have been shown to increase a child's chances of
developing asthma by 200%.
* In conclusion current scientific literature does not support
the belief that toxic black mold is a killer. However, mold of
any kind in your house, given the right environmental conditions,
has the potential to become a menace and cause serious allergy,
asthma, and other related health problems.

The Dangers of Mold Growth in Your Home
Copyright (c) 2009 Daryl Watters

http://www.floridamoldinspectors.us/
Molds are part of the natural environment, outdoors molds play a
significant part in the environment by breaking down dead plant
matter such as dead trees and fallen leaves. Molds that grow
inside homes should be best avoided.
Mold has some resemblance with plants as well as bacteria, but is
neither a plant nor a bacterium. Mold belongs to a seprate
individual kingdom known as the fungi kingdom. Many diverse types
of fungi exist, however the common term mold is used to describe
mostly fuzzy fungi grown on various moist surfaces.
In the home many molds look like tiny smug marks; up close one
may notice a fuzzy or hairy appearance. The mold produces
millions of tiny seed like structures called spores that are
invisible to the naked eye. These spores float through air
indoors as well as outdoors. Mold begins growing indoors when the
mold spores touch a moist surface. There are various types of
mold that require different water levels, but none survive or
multiply without the presence of moisture.
The human eye can at best see objects that are 10 to 30 or more
microns across. Human hairs are about 50 to 75 microns across.
Mostly the indoor spores are merely 2 to 10 microns, while some
spores are long, a few hundred microns.
Toxic mold produces chemicals called mycotoxins. They are
produced primarily by various toxic mold types such as
Aspergillus flavus, Memnoniella, trichoderma, Fusarium and toxic
black mold also known as Stachybotrys, Mycotoxins and allergens
are found in dead spores as well as inside living spores.
Mycotoxins are defences against being eaten by insects. They are
also powerful weapons employed by toxic molds in a microbial
combat to assist them when competing against several other molds
and bacteria for growth space.
The toxic black mold Stachybotrys is commonly found by our
inspection firm in South Florida. It is likely worldwide, as it
was first reported as a problem with solders and their hungry
horses in the Ukraine near Russia almost 100 years ago. However,
even if the mold spores observed in residential areas are a
result of toxic black mold growth, they may not always result in
toxic illness effects on humans through normal indoor inhalation.
A human gets poisoned typically when they inhale extremely large
numbers of spores, or when they eat toxic mold.
History reveals the effects of toxic mold mycotoxins in farm
animals and humans including birth defects, coma, internal
bleeding, cancer, and death, mostly via eating foods contaminated
with toxic mold. Remember the hungry Ukrainian horsed mentioned
above, they ate hay contaminated with Stachybotrys or toxic black
mold. They did not have a happy ending, and the solders that
slept on mouldy hay lived but suffered from serious skin
irritation and blisters.
The main reasons for mold growth at home are damp or moist
surroundings. Molds are concealed behind the wall paper, on or
behind drywall, on top of ceiling tiles, beneath the pads or
carpets, inside AC units, and behind the furniture. Cleaning
concealed mold with chemicals is not the suggested remedy in most
cases. Chemicals such as chlorine bleach are not recommended to
clean mold. Mixing chlorine bleach solution with any other
detergent or cleaning solution is best avoided as this may cause
the creation of dangerous chlorine or chloramines gas. If the
mold on the surface of the wall is killed with bleach, the
majority of the mold will still continue to grow hidden inside
the walls.
It will turn from a small problem to a large more expensive
growing hidden mold problem if not handled correctly the first
time.
A certified mold inspector must be called to get to the root
reasons for mold growth via investigations and testing, next a
mold removal company also known as a mold remediation company
must be given the inspectors report so that the mold remediators
can use that report to aid in guiding them on how to best deal
with the problem.

Your House is Clean, But is It Green?
Copyright (c) 2009 Janet Davis
Mark and Janet
http://www.MarkandJanet.com/
Cleaning a home or business is often a ritualistic experience,
and one meant to remove matter we deem as dangerous, unhealthy or
unpleasant to those living or working there.
It All Adds Up
Think about what you do and what products you use when you clean.
You spray glass cleaner to wash the windows and mirrors. You use
counter and tile cleaners in the bathroom and kitchen. You use
smelly cleaners for your oven and chemicals for your clogged
drains. Carpet cleaner, liquid floor cleaner, furniture polish,
dishwashing liquid, detergent, shampoo - the types of products
available to clean houses numbers in the hundreds and often not a
second thought is given as to what kind of toxins they contain.
Recent studies show, however, that using many household-cleaning
products could have harmful effects. Since the late 1940s, there
has been a dramatic increase in the production and use of
synthetic chemicals in the U.S. Coincidentally; there has been a
rise in the number of cases of environmentally linked chronic
illnesses, such as asthma, allergies and chemical sensitivity.
A recent report by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
shows that indoor air may be anywhere from 3 to 70 times more
polluted than outdoor air. Another EPA study concluded the toxic
chemicals found in many household cleaners are three times more
likely to cause cancer than outdoor air.
But It Smells Good...
Often times, Americans equate clean with smelling good. Dish and
laundry detergents, which are largely petroleum based and thus
made from a non-renewable resource, often have chemicals added to
them to make them fragrant, which can trigger asthma.
Coincidentally, cases of asthma have risen 600 percent since
1980.
Many household cleaners contain phenols, which are listed by the
EPA as being toxic and corrosive. Costs in the United States and
Canada for treatment of environmentally induced health conditions
are estimated at between $560 billion and almost $800 billion
annually. And children are particularly vulnerable because their
low body weight means they absorb a larger percentage of
chemicals, thus putting them at greater risk.
There's also the threat of poisoning, especially among young
children, from common household cleaners. According to the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, 1,900 people each day in
2006 went to an emergency room due to poisoning.
These chemicals can also find their way into nearby water
supplies, polluting them and putting others at risk. Though they
are known to be harmful, current guidelines only suggest exposure
limits and not banning them from use.
There is a way to clean homes or businesses and keep people and
the environment safe.
Go Green And Stay Clean
Green cleaning is a term used to describe products and processes
that get things clean while also protecting the environment and
the health of those living in it. Because they do not use the
toxic chemicals found in other cleaning products, there is less
worry about harmful side effects. Going green is a natural way to
keep living and working environments clean, without harmful side
effects.
In the home, green cleaning can mean a safer environment for
family members, especially children. In a business setting, green
benefits include increased productivity, better morale and less
liability from worker related health issues. Green cleaning can
be ideal for nursing homes and hospitals because it reduces
indoor pollution, and is becoming prevalent in many public places
in this country and Europe that cater daily to a wide variety of
people with different health conditions.
It's Getting Easier
Going green and clean is becoming easier. Look for detergents
with "fragrance free" on the label. Plant-based detergents,
made from corn, palm kernel or coconut oil, are also available.
This is better for the environment than petroleum-based cleaners
because the plant-based product breaks down more easily and is
made from a renewable resource. Furniture and metal polishes are
also produced using mineral or plant oils, rather than dangerous
solvents.
To clean drains the green way, first use a plumber's snake to
clear any obstructions, thus reducing the amount of cleaner
needed. To eliminate the rest of the built up material, use green
cleaners that contain enzymes to break down substances instead of
chemically based ones.
Using green cleaning methods and products can maintain the health
of loved ones, save money and protect the environment. It has not
only become a viable option, but a duty to seek the safest way to
keep spaces clean and healthy.

The Essentials of Selecting a Mold Inspection Firm
Copyright (c) 2009 Daryl Watters
A Accredited Mold Inspection Service, Inc.

Molds are fungi that can cause havoc because of their affinity
for growing indoors side by side with humans.
Molds are a result of moist or humid indoor environments. They
affect the health of the homes occupants and also damage the
building and furniture. Molds can be found in your home, school,
or office. Mold can diminish your health as well as decrease your
property value.
People with weak immune systems may face terrible health problems
such as systemic fungal infection (fungal infections in the
body). However, with regular cleaning and home inspections, good
luck, and rapid repair and professional drying of water leaks
anywhere in or near the house you might keep molds far away from
you.
When you experience the trouble with mold returning after trying
to get rid of it, it is advisable to hand it to an expert hand
that possesses skill in diagnosing your building. They will know
the reasons why the mold is so happy in your home. This is best
done by selecting a mold inspection and testing firm that will
suggest an appropriate remedy. However, before scheduling with a
mold testing company, there are few essential things to be
considered.
1) First, you should ask a certified mold inspector from a
professional mold inspection firm to do a detailed test and to
inspect not only the mold but also the building. Your mold
inspector should be well versed with roofing, plumbing, vapor
barriers, wall waterproofing, AC systems, building pressure, and
wall structure. He or she should be able to analyze any unusual
failures in the building that have resulted in moisture and mold
problems.
2) Secondly, a mold inspection firm that you have selected should
look for humidity problems, dew point, temperature, air and its
influence. Comprehending the relation of these features is very
important in places like Miami, Ft Lauderdale, West Palm Beach,
Florida, and the South Eastern United States, as well as any
tropical or sub tropical region of the world. These as well as
all other tropical environments around the world experience a
distinct hot humid climate. In fact, South Florida faces mold
problems frequently owing to AC system failures and defects that
even AC service persons routinely overlook. You should check if
the inspector coming to diagnose is aware of scientific
principles such as psychometrics because such an understanding is
essential to getting to the root of your mold problem.
3) Third, your inspector should possess a basic knowledge of
ecological and biological principles relating to microbiology.
This will help in understanding molds' tricks, habits, and
hiding places indoors and its relation to health complaints.
4) Fourth, your mold inspector must be accustomed to heating
ventilation and air conditioning system inspections. Numerous
mold problems are correlated to leakage or contamination
problems. Generally, AC supply plenums and dirty blower fans and
coils are the common places for mold growth.
5) Fifth, your inspector should be experienced in sampling mold
and analyzing these samples directly under the microscope, or
should interpret the results given by the lab analysis of these
samples. However, more than spore analysis, his version and
insight after properly analyzing the building and its defects
carry more weight than knowing the names and numbers of spores in
your home or office. So he should investigate with patience and
arrive at conclusions regarding the big picture.
6) Sixth, your mold inspector should give a detailed inspection
report that facilitates getting proper information to your
doctor. If possible, he might even facilitate getting proper and
fair treatment from your insurance company as well, however this
is the job of a public adjuster. Finally, a comprehensive mold
test report should give guidance to your mold removal firm also
known as a remediation firm as to how to properly remediate the
mold problem.

Lifestyle May Affect Baldness More Than Genetics

http://www.soundfeelings.com/
Most people assume that male pattern baldness is genetic. In
fact, there is even evidence that shows that the "baldness
gene" is passed down from the mother's side of the family.
However, I'd like to propose that "genetic baldness" is not a
done deal. I believe there is a PROCLIVITY towards baldness that
is passed down and inherited. But the actual hair loss occurs
when this genetic tendency is COMBINED with certain lifestyle
events.
There may be more that is passed on than merely genetics.
Environmental and lifestyle habits can ALSO be passed on from
generation to generation. This means that the behaviors and diet
habits of a bald man can be passed on to his son and it may be
THOSE influences that make the hair loss to APPEAR hereditary.
Is the son's baldness genetic, or does he just have bad scalp
circulation? The baldness lifestyle could be so similar between a
father and a son that the baldness is similarly induced! For
example, a love of greasy foods, which are known to block the
small capillaries to the scalp, can be passed on from a father to
his son. Or, drinking water from a source that is contaminated
with pesticides could also be "passed on" from father to son if
the son lives in the same area. Or maybe the son "inherited" a
preference for a particular shampoo that is known for being
damaging to hair.
One of the pioneers of the concept of "lifestyle baldness"
originates from an interesting book written in 1985. The author
of this out-of-print book from Japan theorized that the loss of
hair is the result of a "westernized" diet including "fatty
foods." Dr. Masumi Inaba shows a correlation between a diet with
increased animal fats, increased levels of sebaceous gland
activity in the scalp, and an increased incidence of male pattern
baldness in Japanese men in the 40 years since World War II.
Before World War II almost every Japanese male in Japan had a
full head of hair! When they move to Hawaii or California, or
change their diet in Japan, many Japanese men start losing their
hair. The book is called "Can Human Hair Grow Again?: Baldness:
New Steps Toward Prevention and Cure" Publisher: Azabu Shokan
(1985).
Whether you have the baldness gene or not, there are many natural
treatments for hair loss. These can include scalp massage,
exercise, colon cleanse, liver flush, skin brushing, alternations
of heat and cold, reflexology, homeopathy and acupuncture. In
addition, reducing the fat intake in one's diet has been shown
to help to reverse the tendency towards baldness.
To help counter the baldness lifestyle, you should try to avoid
the following: dandruff shampoos, hair conditioners, hair dye,
margarine/hydrogenated oil, elemental calcium supplements, and
over-thinking/worrying.

Body Detox Tips
http://www.bodydetoxtips.com/
Lemon Detox Drink is one of the perfect detox drink recipes which
help in liver detoxification. It is a liver detox diet which
destroys the toxins in your body and thus reduces weight. This
recipe is very simple recipe and is crucial if you want your
desired final result. The ingredients that are used in lemon
detox recipe as follows:
1. Fresh lemon juice -2 tablespoon
2. Dark maple syrup- 2 tablespoon
3. Cayenne pepper- 1/10 teaspoon
4. Water
Mix all the three ingredients and then add water to mix all
together. When you take this drink first time you may find
cayenne pepper a little hot in case if you do not eat spicy. But
after some time you will be accustomed with this liver
detoxification drink. However when I took it first time I was
surprised because I did not get it hot and add more cayenne
pepper in this detox to make it strong. It is one my favorite
detox drink recipes.
When you start with this lemon detox drink you have to drink 6
times in a day. However 8-12 times of its intake is ideal. But
with this drink it is also necessary to take lots of fresh water
throughout the day.
Whenever you start feeling hungry, you should take this drink.
You must take this drink in your regular meal time. On taking
this type of detox drink recipes may be your hunger pain reached
at bay very soon. But after 3 days you will feel automatically
that your hunger pain is reduced very much. But there are 1 out
of 4 people who every time say that they have hunger pain
throughout a day.
It is necessary that each drink should be made fresh. Always use
fresh lime juice rather than canned lime juice. However it is not
possible sometime to make fresh drink because of work load. But
you can try and maintain the cleaning power of lemon enzyme, give
attention to the mixture of maple syrup and lemon juice. Add
water to this concentrate when you want to drink it.
There are some tips while you are planning to take detox drink
recipes. When you are planning to take 3 drinks of lemon detox
drink then you would require making concentrate of 6 tablespoon
of lemon juice and 6 tablespoon of maple syrup.
To make your life easier you should make 3 separate bottles of
water. All consist of 8 fl Oz's of fresh water.
It is necessary to pack a tablespoon in order to measure and add
cayenne. The cayenne pepper can be add to its 3/10th of the part
but keep in mind that cayenne become hot when it hits the liquid.
When you are ready to drink the lemon detox drink, just take your
concentrate and shake it well. Now take 4 tablespoon of it, add
into the bottle and finally put your cayenne. Shake it again and
it is ready to drink.
If your hunger is continuously distracted you then you can do one
thing. I generally decide to clean my house at the time detoxing
my body. Cleaning the house make you focus in it and thus you
forget about your hunger.

How To Prevent Swine Flu Through Better Nutrition

With all the talk on the news stations about the potential of the
Swine Flu to wreck havoc on the health of Americans this winter,
I decided it was time to share some information about the Swine
Flu that not many people are talking about today.
How Can I Prevent Swine Flu Infection?
1. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially
after coughing or sneezing. Scrub for at least 20 seconds and
rinse thoroughly.
2. If soap and water are not available, wash your hands with an
alcohol-based hand gel. Rub your hands together until the alcohol
dries completely.
3. Avoid close contact -- that is, being within 6 feet -- with
people who have flu-like symptoms.
4. Avoid touching your mouth, nose, or eyes. That's not easy to
do, so keep those hands clean.
5. If you have flu-like symptoms -- fever plus at least cough or
sore throat or other flu symptoms -- stay home for seven days
after symptoms begin or until you've been symptom-free for 24
hours -- whichever is longer.
6. Breastfeeding mothers with swine flu symptoms should express
their breast milk, and the child should be fed by someone else.
7. Take IMMUNE BUILDER daily, as offered on the Institue For
Better Health website, shown at the end of this article.
A STRONG IMMUNE SYSTEM will improve your overall Health and help
you to fight off Swine Flu, Colds, Flu, Allergies, Viruses,
Infection, Disease, and Sickness.
About The Immune System
The Immune System is the primary defense against disease in the
human body.
The Immune System fights off invasion by infective organisms,
bacteria, poisons, impurities and keeps the body on an even keel.
Stress or damage to the Immune System will allow sickness and
disease.
For much of the last hundred years, science has been searching
for a cure for cancer, arthritis, and even the common cold. Most
of the research has been focused on finding a "magic bullet" in
the form of an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory or vaccine.
All the while, inside our own body lies the most powerful cure
for what ails us, our immune system. The immune system is a
person's primary defense against disease.
Most of us today have a lot of stress, are overworked, get less
sleep and are overall, just tired. All of these things assist in
breaking down the immune system, making it weak and preventing it
from fighting off sickness and disease. The immune system holds
the key to your body's health. It protects our bodies against
viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc. It is a complex network
of organs that contain cells that recognize and destroy foreign
invaders.
Most people, because of age, chronic infection, poor nutrition,
stress, unhealthy lifestyle, or environmental toxins have a weak
immune system. The following nutritional supplement will enable
you to build up the immune system, keeping it strong and
preventing sickness and disease.
Immune Builder is fantastic for fighting off Swine Flu, colds,
allergies and any flu. Keeping the immune system strong is a must
for healthy living.
The immune system is a network of white blood cells and tiny
clumps of tissue placed throughout our bodies. White blood cells
circulate in our bloodstream and devour most of the bacteria,
poisons and toxins that could cause harm to our bodies. Little
clumps of immune tissue called lymph nodes filter out bacteria
and viruses that could cause infection. We cannot be healthy
unless our immune systems are healthy. If you want to stay
healthy you will need to keep your immune system in top working
order.
Take charge of your Health, take Immune Builder daily, this a
good start for preventing Swine Flu, allergies, colds and flu.

Fat Lost Now
http://fatlostnow.com/
On most diets you will lose weight and not fat. Most of the
weight you do lose is mostly water and not fat.
You are getting dangerously dehydrated on most of these fad
diets. Low carb diets will not make you lose fat because they rob
your body of energy. Low fat diets are worse because they put
more fat on you. Celebrity - endorsed boxed food diets are
expensive and slow. Restrictive dieting is dangerous and does not
work. The only way to drop fat is by eating the right foods -- in
the right amounts -- at the right time.
The secret of life long fat burning and fitness is not found on a
fad diet or in a bottle. Real food is the best thing that fuels
you to burn fat. Certain foods and how you eat these foods will
help you burn fat. Eating a diet full of nutrient rich foods,
drinking a lot of water and getting plenty of sleep will help you
burn fat. You have to separate the good fats - those that strip
away your flab -- from the bad fats -- those that created the
flab in the first place.
Water is also vital to fat burning and maintaining a lean body.
water also keeps you from snacking on unhealthy sugary foods and
sugar laden soft drinks, as many times when we feel we are
hungry, we are actually just dehydrated. Water is involved in
almost every process the body goes through, from digestion to
nutrient absorption. It also keeps your energy level up as it
prevents dehydration.
Dehydration will kill your chances of burning fat, because the
body interprets this as a state of shock. It shifts its focus on
getting water and stops doing other things, like burning body fat
for energy. Your body needs to be working efficiently if you want
to burn fat fast. If your organs, especially the kidneys and
liver, are working together in high efficiency, you will find it
easier to burn fat. Keeping yourself hydrated will keep your
kidneys operating, and your liver will be allowed to do its job
of metabolizing stored fat for energy.
If you combine a diet of nutrient rich foods and a properly
conducted exercise program, you will be on your way to burning
more fat faster and you will get a lean, strong and healthy body.

An Accredited Mold Inspection Service, Inc.

When a mold inspector takes bulk, tape, carpet/dust, or swab
samples, spore numbers are not compared quantitatively to outdoor
levels. Thus, the number of spores in these types of test samples
often are not as meaningful as the numbers found in air testing
samples. Also, because the air is not being tested, your
inspector cannot say for sure how much if any of the mold sampled
from surfaces is in the air you are breathing. However, these
samples can be helpful because they typically provide the analyst
with more than just the mold spores so that identification of
mold type can be more accurately conducted by viewing various
structures of the mold, not just spores. In addition to providing
more structure for direct microscopic examination, bulk samples
are sometimes grown in the lab or run through PCR testing for
analysis to the species level.
Mold Testing with Tape
When a tape sample of actual mold from a moldy surface is taken
using Biotope, a clear piece of Scotch Tape, or a sticky Cyclex
slide, the sample will often show entire mold structures
including spore forming structures and hyphea. These can be used
to confirm mold growth more confidently and rule out the
possibility that the sample was just settled spores only.
Mold Testing of Bulk Samples
When a bulk sample of actual mold or moldy material is sent to a
lab, the lab may use clear Scotch Tape to take a sample from the
bulk mold material for examination under the microscope. The lab
may culture some of the bulk mold specimen in a Petri dish for
analysis of the colonies to the species level.
Mold Testing of Carpet Dust
When a dust sample is analyzed it may be place on a slide for
direct examination to view spores hidden in the dust directly.
This is a very common method used by most mold inspectors labs
and has become accepted in the industry. This popular method may
be helpful but many spores are not seen because spores are hidden
behind dust, or the spores blend in well with dust. The lab will
often report very low spore levels even if the carpet sampled was
obviously very moldy. This inspector has seen this happen many
times with various dust samples tested at different labs. When
studies are done on what are normal and what are elevated spore
levels in carpet dust, the scientist working on the projects and
the mold labs they utilize for dust analysis use very different
methods for analysis.
They wash the dust and dust filter out of the collector with a
mild solvent and culture the spores in a petri dish. This method
will typically reveal tens of thousands of spores or even
hundreds of thousands or millions of spores. Your inspector must
be aware of the different methods and the different results to be
expected when interpreting dust sample results.
Mold Testing with Swabs
A sterile swab provided by a microbiology lab is sometimes used
for sampling. This inspector dislikes this method because unlike
when using tape, the mold structures are always broken up when
using swabs. Therefore, meaningful mold structure identification
and spore counting cannot be done when testing mold with swabs.
Many poorly trained mold inspectors will use a swab on nearly
every inspection done, not because of a well thought out sampling
plan, but simply because the lab gave them swabs.

Body Detox Tips
http://www.bodydetoxtips.com/
Aside from pills, herbs, exercise and diets, many have tried
other methods for body detoxification. These are massage and
acupuncture. These have been popularized in the East as effective
methods of a full body detoxification. Detoxification is the
process of eliminating unwanted and harmful toxic substances from
the body, which are stored in the kidneys, liver, intestines,
lymph, skin, lungs, and body fats. The body fats are also
eradicated during the process causing a dramatic weight loss.
Acquired toxins usually come from industrial chemicals,
hair-coloring products and skin care and beauty products. In
addition, aside from the cleansing of the body, a full body detox
also helps in avoiding degradation of health and severe diseases,
especially cancer.
Acupuncture is considered to be one of the effective methods of
body detox in terms of enhancing the circulation of blood and
lymphatic fluids. This plays a big role in transporting the
toxins and wastes away from the body. Acupuncture comes from an
ancient Chinese method for healing that involves the insertion of
hair-thin needles into the skin on specific locations to
encourage the flow of energy or what they term as "chi". What
makes people turn to acupuncture as a body detox method is the
fact that it reduces the stress level and makes the recovery and
adjustment period bearable. Other than improving the circulation
of blood, acupuncture also enhances the function of the immune
system, which consequently helps the person in preventing
illnesses. It also plays a big role in the improvement of the
digestive system.
Meanwhile, when you choose massage as part of your body detox
program, your circulatory system will get a boost from the
rhythmic strokes that stimulate the body. Naturally, when your
body relaxes in a massage, the toxins inside your body will be
easier to eliminate. Then, after the massage it is important to
drink a glass or two of water so that the toxins will be flushed
out immediately. Just like acupuncture, massages also help in the
improvement of the digestive system, which plays a crucial role
in the detoxification process. It also brings about the
enhancement and betterment of your immune system, helping you in
warding off diseases. Massage, when it makes a person relaxed,
muscle tissues particularly, bowel movement will be easier,
avoiding constipation. Chinese massages are said to be the most
effect detoxifying method, however, Swedish or Shiatsu massages
are also considered helpful in the detoxification process,
towards a cleaner and healthier you.
Certainly, massages and acupuncture can be the most exciting body
detox method a person can involve him to, instead of diets and
workouts. These sure are bonuses to a body detox program.
However, acupuncture or massage alone cannot do the work. It
should still be important that you follow a healthy diet, which
involves high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables. Various
body detox recipes are already being circulated and shared among
friends that are very easy to execute at home. Also, to ensure a
continuous detoxification process it is still advisable that you
engage yourself in physical activities. Remember that sweating is
a good way to eradicate those toxic substances from your system.

Is A Bipap Machine Right For You?
Copyright (c) 2009 Chris Vasta
The CPAP Shop
http://www.thecpapshop.com
CPAP users have probably heard the term Bi-level, VPAP or BiPAP
but are unclear about what it is and how it differs from a
regular CPAP machine. Without getting too technical, there are a
few key differences between a normal CPAP machine and the more
complex BiPAP machine. As CPAP users are aware, a regular CPAP
machine essentially prevents apneas by delivering a constant
stream of air through a tube and into a face mask. This constant
pressure helps keep the airway open and allows the user to breath
normally. Although the BiPAP machine functions similarly to a
regular CPAP for inhalation pressure (IPAP), it differs on the
exhalation pressure (EPAP). On exhalation, the BiPAP machine
delivers a pressure relief or drop to allow for patients to
breathe more closely to their normal breathing pattern. This
exhalatory pressure relief is especially noticeable for patients
with prescribed pressures of 15cm or higher as it allows them to
exhale without fighting against a strong constant pressure. The
difference between the IPAP and EPAP or pressure support must be
determined by a sleep study and has no limits. In fact, the EPAP
pressure of a BiPAP can reduce to the machines lowest setting of
4cm. This function provides for a more comfortable CPAP
experience and, thus, a higher compliance rate.
A more advanced device, a BiPAP ST machine, provides
Spontaneous/Timed (S/T) therapy. This machine allows for the
patient to breathe at their normal, pre-set respiratory rate. If
the patient experiences an apnea or their breathing falls below
the set rate, the device maintains the patient's ventilation
with a timed breath. The Bipap ST device will actually initiate a
breath during therapy which allows for the patient to receive a
minimum number of breaths per minute Even more complex machines
actually calculate ventilation and BiPAP pressure automatically
All major CPAP machine manufacturers have BiPAP machines
(http://www.thecpapshop.com/bipap-machines.html) but vary
slightly in their algorithm and operation while still providing
the basis pressure relief function. Also, as with all CPAP
machines, any type of CPAP nasal, full face or nasal pillow mask
will function with a BiPAP machine. Nevertheless, it is always
important to discuss with your sleep specialist which type of
machine or mask style is most appropriate. CPAP compliance is
directly associated with comfort levels, so it is important to
make sure both machine and mask are suitable and properly fitted
for your particular situation.
A new Auto BiPAP we at The CPAP Shop are impressed with is the
Resmed VPAP Auto 25. The main objective of this remarkably
compact machine is to deliver effective therapy as naturally and
comfortably as possible. This Bi-Level featuring Easy-Breathe,
ResMed's new comfort technology, offers nearly silent therapy
and greater pressure stability so patients sleep comfortably
throughout the night. The Easy-Breathe technology synchronizes
with the patient's normal respiration so breathing feels natural
and comfortable. This device also uses AutoSet technology which
automatically adjusts to a patient's pressure needs as they vary
throughout the night. With ResMed's clinically proven AutoSet
algorithm, the VPAP Auto 25 is able to detect flow limitation and
act preemptively to prevent apneas and snoring events. An
optional humidifier attaches to the front of the VPAP Auto 25 to
provide heated humidification. The device automatically detects
the presence of the humidifier and no other accessories are
required for its use.
Respironics has also designed a Bi-Level machine which
automatically adjusts to the patient's breathing cycles. The M
Series Auto BiPAP features a proactive, multi-level algorithm
that analyzes several parameters to monitor and respond to a
patient's breathing. This BiPAP is the first device to combine
auto adjusting pressure delivery with the breath-by-breath
pressure relief of Bi-Flex. Bi-Flex softens airflow at inhalation
and exhalation and allows for patients to further refine their
IPAP and EPAP pressures making for an extremely natural and
stress-free experience for patients. In Bi-Flex mode, patient
adjustable pressure relief is provided at the critical stages of
EPAP, IPAP, and exhalation. The Auto BiPAP also allows for fixed
IPAP and EPAP and a function which transitions the machine to
automatic during the night. As with all M series devices, it has
an optional heated humidifier. Because dry mouth and nasal
irritation are common reasons for non-compliance, the M Series
Heated Humidifier features an easy-turn dial that is easily set
to five different humidification levels.
Hopefully, this article has provided a clear, concise picture
between the differing functions of a CPAP and a BiPAP machine. If
there are further questions or need further information, please

Natural Cancer Treatments - Top 10 Cancer Alternatives That Work: Overview
Copyright (c) 2009 Dr. Dennis Clark
Cancer Treatment Alternatives
http://altcancertreatment.com/
Step 1: Healing Power
What does it take to heal your body when cancer it growing inside
of you? The best chance you have, of course, is to nourish your
body to build defenses against a turn-coat invader. Your success,
regardless of treatment choice, depends on your own healing
power.
Mainstream Treatments Are Not The Answer
Once you are doing everything you can to be healthy, then and
only then is it worthwhile to go after the cancer itself. This is
because so many treatments are much harsher than need be if you
are already weakened. Indeed, research is already pretty clear
that chemotherapy would make you sick even if you didn?t have
cancer.
In addition, radiation therapy creates a huge inflammation load ?
meaning that it literally cooks your insides and turns your own
tissues into a toxic wasteland. Finally, surgery is a brutal
assault that adds new dangers to your health, with no certainty
that all cancerous cells have been removed.
How Many Alternative Cancer Treatments Are There?
Probably thousands. Every culture worldwide has used herbs
against cancer. The top single herbs in North America, for
example, would have to include bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)
and chaparral (Larrea tridentata). The most widely used
multi-herb mixtures in modern times have probably been Essiac and
the Hoxsey formula.
A tiny fraction of plants that have been studied for anticancer
properties have actually made it into modern clinical practice.
This just means that very few active herbal ingredients have been
discovered to kill tumors like synthetic chemotherapy drugs do.
The longest-running use of so-called natural drugs entails
isolating vincristine and vinblastine alkaloids from the
Madagascar periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus). These highly toxic
chemicals are used in treating certain kinds of leukemia,
especially in children.
These comments point to the use of herbs historically as well as
currently, in both mainstream and alternative medicine. What
about other, non-herbal alternatives? This is where cancer
treatments really get interesting.
Non-Herbal Cancer Treatments
Animal natural products, especially of marine organisms, include
some of the most toxic natural chemotherapies yet discovered.
These are not what I call alternatives, because they are under
development to be used as isolated drugs, the same way as the
periwinkle alkaloids are used.
Probably the most famous animal product among alternative
treatments is shark cartilage. The widespread myth about sharks
not getting cancer has often been used to support claims about
shark cartilage for treating cancer. Sharks do get cancer.
Research does, nevertheless, show that shark cartilage inhibits
the growth of vascular tissue that feed tumors, thereby slowing
tumor growth.
Other non-herbal cancer treatments would include products from
mushrooms. I call them non-herbal because these organisms have
not been classified in the plant kingdom since the 1950s.
Mushroom products predominantly include various polysaccharide
fractions that serve to enhance the immune system. They are
commonly derived from maitake, shiitake, or reishi mushrooms.
Chemical Mixtures Against Cancer
Although chemical mixtures sound scary, the cancer treatment
alternatives in this category are nothing like chemotherapy
drugs. Each of the following has been used successfully for
decades, with little or no side effects when used properly:
* Hydrazine sulfate
* 714X
* Antineoplastons
* Cesium chloride
* Laetrile
* Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
* Protocel Mixture
Immunotherapies And Metabolic Therapies
Dozens of protocols have been created by cancer clinicians in
several countries. This broad class of cancer treatments
typically entails multiple phases, often linked to nutritional
support. The best of these have been banished from the U.S.,
usually reappearing in cancer clinics in Tijuana or Juarez,
Mexico.
Five of the most successful of the immune/metabolic therapies
are:
1. Issels Whole Body Therapy
2. Revici Therapy
3. Livingston Therapy
4. Immuno-Augmentative Therapy
5. Proteolytic Enzyme Therapy
Electromagnetic Therapies
The fundamental research by Dr. Royal Raymond Rife is the
hallmark of this treatment approach. His research in the 1930s
still stands out, and it has come down through the years in the
development of several Rife-Technology devices. Some are now
commercially available for research purposes (meaning, you have
to at least claim to be a researcher to use one on yourself). A
similar modality was invented by Georges Lakhovsky, which he
called the Multiple Wave Oscillator. A modernized invention by
Gene Koonce that combines the technology of Rife and Lakhovsky is
now available as what is called a Vibe Machine.
These kinds of machines are not generally approved as medical
devices by the FDA. Indeed, when any such machine gets too
popular, the FDA swoops in and shuts things down. Royal Rife was
continuously harassed until the day he died. And the main source
of information and products on the Vibe Machine was shut down in
2008. Nevertheless, the Vibe Machine has resurfaced as the
Quantum Pulse device.
What To Do Now
Since this article merely lists several kinds of cancer
treatments, the work you must do is to research each one fully. A
small handful of books offer fairly comprehensive lists and brief
explanations of different kinds of treatments. The most thorough
one is probably the 1997 book, An Alternative Medicine Definitive
Guide to Cancer, although it is a little out of date now.
Nevertheless, any work you put into digging out the details of
these alternative treatments can pay off in a big way for your
health and wellness in the face of cancer.

Important Minerals For Your Healthy Body

Mark And Janet
http://www.MarkAndJanet.com/
Along with vitamins, minerals are essential to the body's good
health. They are inorganic elements that the body doesn't make;
instead, we obtain them from the foods we eat or through
supplements.
It's been reported that some 56 percent of adults in the U.S.
use some kind of nutritional supplements, fueling an industry
that sells more than $1.5 billion in products every year. If
you're spending money on supplements, you should know what
you're getting.
There are two kinds of minerals: trace minerals and
macrominerals. The category of trace minerals includes iron,
zinc, copper, selenium, iodine, fluoride and chromium. Trace
minerals are only found in tiny, trace amounts in your body.
Macrominerals are needed in larger amounts in your body - these
are sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese,
sulphur, cobalt and chloride. Each mineral works in different
ways to contribute to the body's health and wellbeing.
The following is a list of each mineral, the foods in which it
can be found, and what it does for your body. In future articles,
we'll discuss the various minerals in more detail.
Calcium is the most important macromineral for bone and teeth
health. Without it, we couldn't stand up and chew our food.
Foods rich in calcium are dairy products, such as milk, yogurt
and cheese. Canned fish, such as canned salmon or sardines, and
green vegetable such as broccoli also provide us with needed
calcium. Calcium is so important that some foods, such as cereals
and juices, are fortified with it.
Iron helps oxygen get from the lungs to the rest of the body. It
is also essential in the production of hemoglobin. Iron can be
found in red meats, tuna, salmon, eggs, beans, potatoes, raisins
and green leafy vegetables.
Potassium is essential for keeping the nervous system working.
Foods such as bananas, tomatoes, broccoli, potatoes, citrus
fruit, legumes and nuts are rich in potassium.
Zinc strengthens the body's immune system and wards off illness
and infection. Zinc can be found in legumes and meats such as
beef, pork and lamb.
Magnesium is found in bones. It helps the body maintain a healthy
metabolism and cholesterol level. It also converts sugar into
energy. Spinach, beans, peas, nuts, seeds and grains are an
excellent source for magnesium. Tap water also contains traces of
the mineral but the amount will vary according to the water
supply.
Manganese helps increase the absorption of nutrients such as
biotin, thiamin and ascorbic acid. It helps maintain healthy
bones and blood sugar levels and maximizes the function of the
thyroid gland. It also contributes to healthy nerve function.
Foods high in manganese are mustard and collard greens, kale,
chard, raspberries, pineapple, lettuce and maple syrup.
Sodium, which is found in salt, maintains the body's blood
pressure. Since too much sodium can lead to health problems, it
is important to realize that processed foods such as bread,
tomato sauce, Chinese foods, and potato chips have high sodium
content.
Copper protects the cardiovascular and nervous systems, as well
as bones. It helps keep arteries from hardening and is needed for
healthy hair and skin. The body also needs copper to produce
antioxidants. Half of the body's copper supply is in the bones
and muscles. Copper can be found in beef liver, black-eyed peas,
shellfish and cocoa.
Chromium controls the body's insulin and normalizes sugar
levels. It also lowers bad cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
Foods that contain chromium are romaine lettuce, onions,
tomatoes, brewer's yeast, oysters, liver and bran. Since few
diets provide enough chromium, a daily supplement is recommended.
Sulphur is known as the "beauty" mineral. It keeps hair, nails
and skin strong. It plays a role in the production of collagen,
which helps maintain the skin's elasticity. Sulphur also helps
with such conditions as eczema, psoriasis and acne. Sulphur can
be found in lean meats, fish, eggs, milk, legumes, cabbage,
brussel sprouts and turnips.
Cobalt is a part of Vitamin B12, which is needed for healthy red
blood cells. It can be found in fish, nuts, green leafy
vegetables and cereals.
Chloride helps the body maintain fluid in blood vessels and
muscles and maintain healthy kidneys. Chloride can be found in
table salt, kelp, olives, tomatoes and celery.
Iodine, which is found mainly in the thyroid gland, regulates the
release of energy in the body. It also regulates the metabolism,
so without iodine, a person would gain a great deal of weight.
Iodine also contributes to healthy hair, skin, nails and teeth.
Good sources of iodine are leafy vegetables, fish, shellfish, and
onions.
Fluoride is a mineral that can be added to water or toothpaste,
as it is not found in any significant quantity in foods. Fluoride
is crucial for the maintenance of strong teeth and the prevention
of tooth decay.
Selenium is needed to prevent heart disease and cancer. It works
with Vitamin E as an antioxidant to help slow the aging process.
Foods high in selenium are nuts, seafood, legumes, cereals and
turkey.
The body uses many essential minerals, and a balanced diet is
critical to ensure that it receives enough for optimal
functioning. A deficiency of certain minerals can lead to severe
health problems. If your diet is lacking any of these minerals,
you should consider taking supplements to make up for any
deficiencies.

Care For Some Body Detox Recipes?

Body Detox Tips
http://www.bodydetoxtips.com/
Vegetarians, being fans of vegetables most probably do not have
problems with body detoxification. But sometimes, vegetables are
cooked and mixed with processed ingredients. In this case, the
body cannot absorb all of the nutrients found on these vegetables
completely. When a person wants to undergo a full body detox,
s/he should eat raw vegetables and fruits more because of the
enzymes that help greatly in the detoxification process.
Detoxification is the elimination of toxic substances that are
found in your kidneys, liver, intestines, lymph, lungs, skin and
body fat. If a person does not detoxify, degradation of health
will occur, and worse, the accumulation of severe diseases. A
person can acquire these dangerous toxins from industrial
chemicals encountered in workplaces, beauty products,
hair-coloring products and dental fillings.
If you decide to pursue a body detox plan involving the body
detox diet, then you have better ideas for your stored fruits and
vegetables and of course, your body. There are many types of body
detox diets already out but there are simple body detox recipes
that you can try at home.
Monothropic Diet
This body detox recipe is a contribution of Dr. Kiki Sidhwa where
a person is only allowed to eat one type of fruit per meal. In a
day, for instance, you can have apple for breakfast then maybe by
lunch you can have pineapple and for your dinner, you can have
pears.
Ginger Healing Tea with Turmeric
This is not your processed and ready-made tea on teabags. In two
cups of water you put 1/2 teaspoon of powdered ginger and
turmeric each. Here you can also add other powdered herbs to the
boiling water and then let it simmer for ten minutes. When it is
ready, strain the tea and maybe add a maple syrup and lemon
extract to enhance the taste more.
The Vegetable Super Juice
This juice is for an energy boost and for the stimulation of your
digestive system. What you have to do is blend in together one
cucumber, four celery sticks, two to four handfuls of spinach and
eight lettuce leaves. You can add parsley and fresh alfalfa
leaves if you want. Add some water and lemon juice and you're
good to go.
Alkalising Raw Soup
Your objective here is to make a light paste with avocadoes,
spring onions, red/green pepper, cucumber spinach and garlic. You
should also mix a light vegetable Bouillion. It is your choice if
you want to add some lime or lemon juice here.
Warm Broccoli Soup
In this soup, you blend avocadoes, broccoli heads, red onion,
celery sticks, ginger roots and cumin together. If you want to
add garlic, it can also be possible.
There are other body detox recipes out there. These are some body
detox recipes that are particular a certain part of the body that
you want to cleanse, which is why you will expect a wide variety
of diversity in body detox recipes.

Taking all of your vacation days is an important component of
your peak performance at home and work. Vacations allow you to
disconnect from your regular routine and then return rested and
rejuvenated. If money or time is tight, a staycation is a great
alternative to a traditional vacation. A staycation is simply a
vacation taken at home. Following a few simple tips, you can
enjoy the benefits of a holiday without having to pack your
suitcase.
Here are 5 tips to make your staycation a success:
1. Be Enthusiastic
Your attitude about a staycation is critical to its success. If
you are thinking that it is a second class version of the "real
thing", then you will likely be somewhat unsatisfied with the
experience. Decide what you want the focus of your staycation to
be: relaxation, adventure, recreation, culture. Ask yourself what
you want to get out of your time off. Consider what you like best
about a traditional vacation and include that aspect in your
planning.
2. Plan Your Itinerary
Lack of planning is one of the biggest reasons people are
disappointed with a staycation. Think about the amount of
planning that goes into a traditional vacation. Put the same
amount of energy into planning this time off. Create an
itinerary. Decide what activities you'd like to do, local
attractions you might like to visit, or events you might like to
attend.
3. Prepare Ahead
Lack of preparation is the other big reason people find
staycations disappointing. The important thing to avoid is
blurring the lines between regular household chores and your time
off. Be strict about not picking away at your list of undone
house jobs. Just like a traditional vacation, take care of tasks
around the house ahead of time: tidy things up, stock up the
refrigerator if you'll be eating at home, do the laundry.
4. Unplug From Work
The best way to get a break from work is to actually take a
break, so unplug from the office during your staycation. Tell
people you are going on holidays, create an absence message for
your voicemail and email, leave your blackberry in the drawer.
These suggestions apply to traditional vacations as well!
5. Treat It Like A Vacation
Approach your staycation in the same way you would a traditional
vacation. Plan a start and end date. Take photos. Try new things.
Visit different restaurants.

Skin Care For Fall
Copyright (c) 2009 Mark and Janet Davis
Mark And Janet
http://www.MarkAndJanet.com/
When summer turns into fall, it's a good time to assess your
skin's condition. An active summer has likely caused damage to
your skin, which should be repaired now in preparation for
winter. During the summer, skin is exposed to many harmful
influences, like pool chemicals, saltwater, sunburns, heat, and
air conditioning. The damage from these things can be healed, or
at least offset, with proper skin care.
Summer Damage Control
First, assess your skin and check for sun damage. Sun damage is
caused by overexposure to ultraviolet radiation. Some effects are
immediate, like sunburn; while others accumulate over time,
including uneven pigmentation, early wrinkles, age spots, spots
on the lower lip, and sagging skin. Fortunately, most of these
conditions are reversible with proper care.
Moisturizers and masks can be a good start to repair some of the
summer's skin damage. Vitamin C skin cream has been shown to
help reduce fine lines in the skin. It works by boosting collagen
synthesis which helps keep skin from sagging and looking worn.
Since actual vitamin C isn't very stable, some cosmetics use
vitamin C derivatives, which keep their strength longer.
Antioxidants in general are also good ingredients for skin cream
and other skin-repair products. They help stop damage from free
radicals, allowing the skin to heal itself more efficiently.
Retinoids, available in prescription and non-prescription
strengths, are another tool that can help repair the skin. They
can reduce inflammation, help eliminate lesions, soften wrinkles,
and firm the skin.
Even in the fall you should treat age spots and take precautions
to help keep more from forming. Though it doesn't seem as sunny,
keep wearing a sunscreen, since there is still enough sun to
cause skin damage (some skin-care professionals recommend wearing
some sunscreen year-round). To help treat age spots, which are
actually caused by UV exposure rather than age, there are a
variety of methods available. These range from fade creams all
the way to having them frozen off in a doctor's office via
cryotherapy. A doctor can also prescribe Retin-A or other
high-strength prescription medicines, which are generally far
more effective than over-the-counter creams.
Let the Moisturizing Begin...
In summer, controlling oil and helping the skin resist the
effects of the sun and heat are priorities. Moving into fall,
concentrate more on balancing the skin and repairing the previous
season's damage. Once winter begins, the humidity in the air
drops, cold winds blow, and the furnace starts to run. These
things can lead to dry, sensitive skin. Therefore, concentrate on
moisturizing your skin during this time.
Keeping the skin moist and healing already-dry skin is also
important for both skin health and good looks. Dry skin
ointments, which are made with oil, tend to be the most
effective. These preparations, however, have an oily feel that
many people would prefer to avoid. Creams are usually less oily,
but as a tradeoff, they don't last quite as long. Lotions are
water-based, which allows them to give fast relief, but the
effects are short-lived. Also, some of them are heavily perfumed
which makes them unsuitable for those allergic to the ingredients
used to make the scents. Creams and ointments are the best choice
for longer-lasting results.
Water, Water, Everywhere
Improving your food and water intake helps your entire body, and
your skin is no exception. Drinking more water has the immediate
benefit of increased hydration. Well-hydrated skin looks
younger-you can practically see the water in the skin of
teenagers, and it's fairly easy to guess someone's age by how
naturally moist their skin is. Break the pattern by making sure
your skin is moist, no matter what your age.
Don't Forget Your Diet
Eating better food, of course, is also important for great
looking skin. Look for healthy vegetables to add to your diet and
cut down or eliminate fried foods. Unhealthy foods can clog pores
as well as cause an overall sickly appearance in the skin.
Choosing foods that are naturally ripe in the fall is a fun way
to add more healthy choices to your diet. Carrots, sweet
potatoes, and burdock are just some of the root vegetables that
ripen around this time. Above-ground vegetables to consider
include squashes, nuts, and of course, pumpkin. Try to
incorporate the pumpkin into something other than pie, however,
or its benefits may be outweighed by the sugar and vegetable
shortening which are also parts of pumpkin pie.
A Plan for All Seasons
While each season offers its own challenges to your skin, your
fall skin regimen should focus on repairing damage from your fun
in the sun, and preparation for the dry, cold months ahead.

The Most Popular Mold Testing Methods
Copyright (c) 2009 Daryl Watters
A Accredited Mold Inspection Service, Inc.
http://www.floridamoldinspectors.us/
Below are the five most widely used methods of taking mold spore
samples from the air during mold inspections. They are used by
scientists, industrial hygienists, and mold inspectors.
These mold testing methods have been proven over and over by
time, legal trial, and third party scientific lab verification
for reliability taking into account many complex factors related
to aerodynamics and physics. Surface sample methods just do not
provide as much quantitative info as the following 5 air sample
methods.
1) An Air-O-Cell non viable spore trap with pump calibrated and
run at 15 LPM typically run from 1 to 15 min.
2) A Micro5 non viable spore trap with pump calibrated and run at
5 LPM for 1 to 5 min.
3) A CyClex non viable impactor with pump calibrated and run at
20 LPM for 1 to 10 min.
4) A CyClex-d non viable spore trap with pump calibrated and run
at 20 LPM for 1 to 10 min.
5) A single stage viable impactor plate, such as an Andersen
Impactor or one of it's exact duplicated clones (such as an
Aerotech 6, or ems E6 with a pump calibrated and run at 28.3 LPM
for 1 to 5 min.
The Cyclex from method # 3 above is not used as much as some
other methods because it requires a larger up front investment on
the part of the mold testing firm. $400.00 one time purchase of a
reusable sampler as apposed to the free one time use plastic
cassettes provided y labs. In addition to testing 200 liters of
air with each sample the CyClex sampler developed by
Environmental Monitoring Systems also has a cut off diameter
(d50) the size of the smallest spores, this means tiny pen / asp
spores just 2 or 3 microns across do not pass through the device
and escape unnoticed. Also, the Cyclex typically samples 200
liters or 1/5 of a cubic meter of air, thats a good amount for an
air sampler, the more air sampled the more statically reliable
the results.
The first four methods above are non viable spore traps, this
means that live and spores are collected in the sample device to
give an idea of the total estimated number of spores per cubic
meter of air. This sampling method does not miss spores. This is
very important because often spores can be allergenic or
potentially toxigenic, regardless of whether they are live.
The fifth method above is used for viable air testing. It is not
as widely used by mold inspectors because like the CyClex it to
has a higher initial investment in equipment around $500.00 for a
stainless steel impactor plate with 400 tiny precession drilled
holes, as apposed to a simple plastic air testing cassette
provided for free by the lab. Also, viable sample results have a
longer turn around time 7 to 10 days as apposed to about 3 days
for viable methods. Viable sample means that only live mold
colonies from live spores or live colony forming units are
counted. Though this method does not allow the counting of
spores, it is a very important and respected sampling methodology
used by professionals for around from the 1950's to the present.
It allows for the culture of live mold in the lab. Thus, entire
colonies can be examined in the lab for more accurate
identification of mold types, sometimes even to the species
level.
Indoor v.s. Outdoor Mold Spore Levels
The most widely accepted guideline across the nation to help
determine if indoor mold spore levels are indicative of a
possible mold problem is the comparison of indoor and outdoor
mold spore levels. Indoor mold spore levels should be similar to
or lower than levels found outdoors, and the types of mold spores
found in indoor mold test samples should be similar to types
found in outdoor test samples. The below listed organizations and
governing bodies support the above comparison method and have
determined that indoor mold spore levels should be similar in
number and type to outdoor mold spore levels and types: NYC DOH,
ACGIH 1989, Canada M&H CO. 1991, ACGIH 1993, OSHA 1994, and
Brazil 2000.

Taming The Technostress
Last week, my big desktop PC crashed, my laptop got the "blue screen: of
death". The refrigerator croaked, and the toaster oven went the heaven. My
I-phone decided to stop receiving e-mail and the dashboard in my car kept
erroneously sending warning messages.
It wasn't even a full moon!
As marvelous as all our technology is, chronic malfunctions and crashes and
the constant demand to keep up might account for the fact that at least one
in four of us will admit to physically assaulting a device. There's even a
ratio for judging the attack because the chances of failure are in direct
proportion to the urgency of the task they are needed for. Hence the scream
heard from my assistant as she tried to get out my summer newsletter before
autumn.
It doesn't get better. The 2009 March/April issue of Psychotherapy Networker
says that such chronic, unalleviated stress compromises our cognitive and
emotional functions as well as undermining our immune system. Nor does it
when a workplace (often unknowingly) contrives urgency by leashing employees
with PDAs, laptops, pagers, and anything else for instant access and
response.
Well intentioned. And ultimately a timewaster and a driver of increased
health care costs.
What happens is that we continually try to multitask, toggling back and
forth, answering the ping of instant messages, and wind up feeling
constantly "on". Instead of concentrating on one task, we unconsciously scan
for the next message or task, thus spending often 50% more time on one job
before taking on another.
Ways to conquer the beast:
Manage your energy not your time. You don't run marathons every day yet we
try and do the equivalent at our work. Studies of energy suggest a
90-minute rhythm. This means stopping and doing something to recovers your
energy expenditure. (Coffee and chocolate don't count. Nor does smoking).
Take a 4-minute relaxation break. Walk outside, deep breath, trying
biofeedback. Go outside. Drink water. And when it's time-go home without
work.
Program your computer to delete messages after 30 days. If no one has
screamed by then, how important could it be?
Send out the equivalent of a "do not disturb" sign, telling folks you will
respond from 3-4pm daily. If it's an emergency-call you.
Turn off rings, pings, dings, and anything that sings.
Distinguish between uninterrupted work time and answer time.
Work with your team to determine the important and urgent from the
unimportant.
Cut the cord. If you continue to remain connected all the time-you have only
yourself to blame with the constant barrage of requests.
At the end of the day, reset to zero. You did what you could. It's done.
Over. Finito. Do NOT plan tomorrow today. Your brain will start working on
it and there goes the sleep.
Shut the door of your office. Turn off the computer. Reset to zero. Tomorrow
is a new day.
Do NOT take the PDA to bed with you. Give it a rest. Give all of us a rest.
Without boundaries, Tyrannosaurus Techno will win again.

Vitamins are nutrients that keep your body healthy, but that your
body cannot produce by itself; they must be supplied by your diet
or in dietary supplements. Vitamins are essential for normal
functioning of our bodies and are needed for our bodies to grow,
stay healthy, and to prevent and cure many diseases and potential
health problems.
There are two categories of vitamins:
* Water-soluble vitamins - are not stored in your body and must
be replaced every day. Your kidneys work to remove excess
water-soluble vitamins that are not needed.
* Fat-soluble vitamins - are stored in the liver and fatty
tissues, which are eliminated more slowly. Because they are not
as easily eliminated, taking excessive fat-soluble vitamin
supplements can be toxic.
There are two primary sources of vitamins:
* Synthetic vitamins are developed in the lab from coal tar
derivatives. Most of the food supplements sold today are
synthetic, which are cheaper to make than natural vitamins.
* Natural vitamins are a concentrated nutrient obtained from a
natural source; no preservatives or artificial colors are used.
There is an ongoing debate about synthetic versus natural
vitamins. Many natural food proponents say that synthetic
vitamins are ineffective because the body does not absorb the
nutrients, and that they do not contain the necessary co-factors
that occur in nature. For example, in natural sources,
bioflavonoids are present with vitamin C. In synthetic vitamin C,
these bioflavonoid co-factors are not present. The other side of
the debate says that synthetic vitamins have the identical
molecular structure as natural vitamins, and that they are just
as effective.
Your body needs at least 13 vitamins to promote growth and
development, but in different amounts and for different reasons.
They include vitamins A, C, D, E, K and the B vitamins (thiamine,
riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B-6,
vitamin B-12, and folate).
Here's some information about each of these important vitamins.
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin important for bone growth,
reproduction, vision, and cell division. It helps regulate the
immune system, and may help white blood cells fight infections.
There are two main types of Vitamin A, depending on whether it
comes from a plant or an animal source. Vitamin A from plant
sources is known as carotenoids and is obtained from colorful
vegetables such as spinach and carrots. Vitamin A from animal
sources is absorbed as retinol, found in foods such as liver and
whole milk. Without enough Vitamin A, it is harder for your body
to fight infections. Vitamin A deficiency is not common in
developed countries, and is usually associated with strict
dietary restrictions, Celiac disease, Crohn's disease, or
excessive alcohol use. Excessive Vitamin A is a risk factor for
osteoporosis, as it can hinder the absorption of Vitamin D.
The B Vitamins are a group of 8 different vitamins: thiamine
(B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5),
pyridoxine (B6), cyanocobalamin (B12), folic acid, and biotin.
These vitamins are important for providing energy for the body,
breaking down fats and proteins, and developing healthy muscle
tone, skin, hair, eyes, mouth, and liver function. The B-complex
vitamins can be found in whole-grain cereals, nuts, milk, eggs,
meats, fish, fruits, and vegetables. These vitamins are water
soluble, so excess doses are not common. Niacin is now being
prescribed for reducing high cholesterol; side effects may
include flushing, itching, and nausea. Folic acid protects
against birth defects by helping regulate embryonic and fetal
nerve cell formation so it's normally included in Prenatal
Vitamins.
Vitamin C, known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin
necessary for healthy bones, cartilage, muscles, and blood
vessels. Iron transports oxygen in the body and Vitamin C helps
the body absorb iron. Vitamin C is found in fruits and
vegetables, particularly citrus fruits, and a deficiency is
associated with scurvy. Research indicates that Vitamin C may
also be helpful for treatment or prevention of asthma, cancer,
diabetes, and the common cold, although results are not
conclusive. High levels of vitamin C have multiple side effects,
including kidney stones, diarrhea, nausea, and gastritis.
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin found naturally in few foods,
so it is now routinely added to such foods as milk. Sunlight
helps the skin absorb it, however, the use of sunscreen to
prevent sun damage and skin cancer also prevents the absorption
of Vitamin D. This vitamin is necessary for the body to absorb
calcium and to prevent rickets, and without Vitamin D and
calcium, bones become weak or brittle. People at risk for Vitamin
D deficiency include babies who are exclusively breastfed, older
adults, those with limited exposure to sunlight, and obese
persons. Excess levels of Vitamin D can cause nausea,
constipation, weakness, and weight loss.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble, super antioxidant, which protects
cells against free radicals, which are molecules that contain an
unshared electron. Antioxidants can safely interact with these
free radicals that can damage cells and might contribute to the
development of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Many foods
provide vitamin E including nuts, seeds, and vegetable oils.
Green leafy vegetables and fortified cereals also contain
significant amounts.
Vitamin K allows blood to clot, helps prevent osteoporosis, and
prevents cell damage. It is found in green leafy vegetables such
as spinach, as well as in peas and carrots. It is rare to develop
a Vitamin K deficiency, although severe levels of deficiency
could lead to anemia. High doses of natural forms of vitamin K
have not produced symptoms of toxicity.
Vitamins work together to regulate many processes within the
body. A lack of vitamins or a diet that does not provide adequate
amounts of certain vitamins can upset the body's natural
internal balance. Vitamin pills can't replace eating healthy
food. However, taking vitamins and supplements is a great way to
ensure that your body is getting everything it needs to keep you
healthy.

A Comparison of Tattoo Removal Methods: Tattoo Removal Skin Peels Vs Tattoo
Removal Creams Vs Tattoo Removal Using DermaBrasion
Copyright (c) 2009 Abe Granberry
My Information Digest
http://myinformationdigest.com/
A friend and I, along with 3 other buddies, decided to try an
experiment to remove tattoos that we have all had for many years.
Over time we just decided we no longer liked what we saw on our
arms, shoulders and chest so we decided to test all the varieties
of tattoo removal except Laser because none of us could afford
the price, plus we wanted to see for ourselves if the other
products actually worked or were just marketing hype. We
represent a mix of 2 Civil Engineers, a Commercial Real Estate
salesman, a pharmaceutical sales rep and a self employed
landscape architect.
After reviewing the options available we decided to use Tat B
Gone and Tattoo-Off (http://tattoo-off.com/) to represent the
tattoo removal creams, Nuviderm (http://www.nuviderm.com/) to
represent the cosmetic acid peeling agents and WreckingBalm
(http://wreckingbalm.com/) as the dermabrasion candidate. We
didn't even consider a salt dermabrasion product because I had
used a brand that shall remain nameless and I could have gotten
the same results using 80 grit sandpaper, man was it rough.
We had 5 guinea pigs and 4 products so it was decided to really
test the tattoo removal creams since, if they worked, it would be
the obvious way to go since you just rub it on like Jergins Hand
lotion and after a few months you're done, or so we thought, but
we'll get to that later.
Since this whole thing was my idea I decided to use WreckingBalm.
I've heard the radio commercials and it sounded like the way to
go. Robert, Khalid and Pat started with TatBGone and Tattoo-Off
and George was the Nuviderm test subject. Mind you, two of these
guys, Robert and Khalid were the Engineers - and they were
driving us nuts with observing proper technique, following
instructions to the "T" and keeping logs with application
dates, results etc. They wanted quantifiable results at the end
of the test to make sure THEY were satisfied that the winner was
actually the best product.
The official kickoff for the test was at my house. We sat around
the island in the kitchen, read the instructions and proceeded to
do our first tattoo removal treatments. None of us had what I
would call huge tats, just run of the mill stuff - names (2), a
Celtic symbol that we kidded George was the symbol for Idiot, a
flag and a weird conglomeration of an ex-wife's name covered up
by what was supposed to be the Arkansas Razorback mascot, which
we all took to be symbolic for a nasty divorce.
The tattoo cream guys had it easy, they just rubbed a little on
their tattoos, popped open a beer and watched George and I go
through the steps of our chosen removal methods. I had my battery
operated sander, spray, cream - the whole nine yards. I knew I
picked a winner and was happy with the entire procedure that
first day, while George was next to me bitchin about diluting,
mixing and testing, but was determined to get rid of that Celtic
symbol.
When I finished my skin was red from sanding on it, maybe a bit
to eager my first time out. George was showing off his "Frost"
which meant his first Nuviderm application was a success and
wasn't actually all that bad.
If this was a movie this is the part where they would flash on
the screen ...ONE MONTH LATER...
The cream guys - Robert, Khalid and Pat had been rubbing away for
30 days - their tattoos looked the same, but they now had soft
skin! I had been grinding away every third day, spraying and
rubbing as instructed with nothing to show, but it was still
early and we all knew going in this was a long term project - at
least 6 months, maybe a year (but hopefully not). George had
peeled a layer of skin and had done his second application the
previous week so his skin was about to peel again, but no real
change as far as we could tell.
...TWO MONTHS INTO THE TEST...
The Tat B Gone and Tattoo-off guys were still rubbing and one was
starting to see a bit of difference, but nothing to brag about.
George was still peeling, his third application the day before
with no noticeable change and I was still sanding and using the
other stuff, but every third day seemed to harsh, my skin was a
bit tender so occasionally I'd have to skip a day and sand on
the fourth day. Still no change.
90 DAYS INTO THE TEST...
Tattoo creams weren't doing much, but Khalid's skin color was
fading but not his tattoo, it was weird. Khalid has a dark brown
complexion, but it was a lighter brown where he had been rubbing
on the cream with no noticeable change to the tattoo. Robert and
Pat couldn't see any difference to skin tone or tattoo.
George was about to do his fourth treatment, his skin was
slightly pink at the treated area and the tattoo seemed to be
getting brighter, more vivid. Not what we expected, but he was
prepared to continue.
I was still sanding away and couldn't tell for sure if there was
a difference or not, but I was undeterred.
...Four Months...
Again the guys using the tattoo creams, Tat B Gone and
Tattoo-Off, were showing no progress, but Khalid was developing a
light brown spot on his shoulder where his tattoo was located,
but the tattoo wasn't changing, it had to be the skin lightening
chemical in the cream working on his skin pigment but not the
tattoo ink. We were seeing that the product reduced skin pigment
color but so far had no effect on tattoo ink. On a positive note,
they all had soft skin!!
George had slightly increased the strength of the Nuviderm
solution he was using and was beginning to see slight but
definite changes in his tattoo.
I was still doing the sanding regimen, but it was becoming
something of a nuisance because of the frequency of the
treatments, but there was progress being made, however slight it
was.
Five Months
Tattoo cream guys - nothing except for Khalid with his light
brown spot and unchanged tattoo.
George, using Nuviderm, was now making some real progress. You
could see that the tattoo ink was not all deposited at the same
depth because he had spots showing where the ink had been removed
and areas where there was still ink - he now had a spotted Celtic
symbol which was a sign of real progress. His skin was pinkish at
the treated area, but after all he was peeling his skin about
once every 4 weeks and it was working.
I was making some headway with WreckingBalm but not as much as
George and the WreckingBalm had cost four times as much as the
Nuviderm so on the Return On Investment George was the clear
winner at this point.
Six Months
The tattoo removal cream guys, Pat and Robert, had soft skin, but
no change in their tattoos and I could tell Khalid and I were
cousins because his light brown spot was now about the color of
my skin, but the tattoo was very clearly unchanged.
If this was a horse race, George was clearly pulling away,
leading the pack by a full length maybe a bit more. The spots
cleared of ink were getting bigger and the remaining ink was very
definitely lighter in color.
I was making progress, clearly WreckingBalm was working, but not
as fast as Nuviderm and it required more work and cost four times
as much. We were beginning to see a winner, but the race was not
quite finished.
Seven Months Into the Test
At this point it was obvious the tattoo removal creams were not
working and the cost of the products was money down a rat hole.
Georges' Celtic Symbol was a happily fading memory and I was
fading my tat but the cost and effort was clearly not worth it
when compared to the tremendous progress George had made with
Nuviderm.
Month Eight ...And we have a Winner...
The tattoo cream guys had given up and Khalid wanted to lose the
light spot on his skin.
Georges tattoo was still there, but it's days were numbered. His
progress with Nuviderm was so far ahead of Wreckingbalm it was
pathetic and all for only $40.
WreckingBalm was working, but it was so slow, so regimented and
so expensive compared to Nuviderm that we declared Nuviderm the
winner by unanimous consent.
The final results were striking and somewhat surprising, at least
to me. I thought for sure WreckingBalm would win, but for all
their advertising they were second best to the clear winner
Nuviderm. I have stopped sanding my skin and with Georges help
I'm going to do my first Nuviderm treatment as soon as my order
arrives. Doing a treatment once a month or so beats 3 times a
week in my book.
Final recommendation - Nuviderm won - it wasn't even close.
Nuviderm Review - 5 thumbs up! (http://www.nuviderm.com/)
*** One final note, as I was finishing up this article I came
across a site called HealthySkinAssociation.org that in the
bullet point section of the home page brought up some interesting
points on how to decide on which tattoo removal products to try
and which to avoid.
Quoting from the Healthy Skin Association:
"In recent years there has been a proliferation of tattoo
removal creams, most of which promise more than they deliver.
There are a few basic guidelines one should use when researching
which tattoo removal method best suits their circumstance and in
determining which manufacturers they can trust.
* Does the basic product have a history of successfully removing
tattoos?
* Does the manufacturer offer a reasonable product guarantee?
* Can the product be returned after using or does using the
product void the guarantee?
* Always follow product instructions for use.
* Does the manufacturer offer full disclosure on the ingredients
of their product?
* Does the product, if a cream, contain Hydroquinone, a known
cancer causing agent?
* Does the product, if a cream, contain more than just a recipe
for fading skin pigment?
* Pigment faders have never been proven to fade or remove tattoo
ink.
* If choosing laser removal make sure the laser equipment is of
high quality and latest generation to insure proper removal of
the various shades of green, yellow, and blue.
* Ask the laser clinic about a guarantee or escrow policy to
insure you that you get what you pay for.
* Know which wavelengths of laser light remove the colors of
your tattoo and make sure your clinic has the necessary
equipment.
* Ask about topical anesthesia to ease the pain of laser
removal."
That is very common sense advise that I wish we would have
thought about before we started our test.

Ten Tips: When You Lose Your Health Insurance
Copyright (c) 2009 Rickey Pearce
Rocky Mountain Health Plans
http://www.rmhp.org/
Here are ten tips you can implement when you lose your health
insurance:
1. You may be offered a "COBRA" insurance policy, especially if
your job has been lost. This enables you to gain easier
acceptance, but doesn't necessarily provide the best rate or
coverage available.
2. When your doctor prescribes a medication, ask him or her if a
generic prescription could be substituted. Generics cost less,
partially because they aren't heavily advertised.
3. If you lose your medical coverage and become injured, most
healthcare providers are willing to offer a long-term payment
arrangement when asked.
4. Try not to forgo relatively inexpensive preventative measures,
such as flu shots and vitamin supplements. These can help prevent
more costly illnesses.
5. If your spouse is employed, find out if his or her employer
offers discounted medical insurance coverage for employees'
spouses.
6. People can use the Internet to conveniently request quotes
from one or more Colorado individual health insurance providers,
sometimes instantly. Quotes are free and require little
information, so there is nothing to lose.
7. Until you acquire insurance again, try to avoid recreational
or other non-essential activities which pose a risk of injury -
such as horseback riding or skiing.
8. When you lose health insurance or only have a high deductible
policy, consider using a lower-cost healthcare provider such as
Concentra Urgent Care for problems which aren't imminently
life-threatening.
9. Don't assume that your income is too low to afford any
medical insurance. In Colorado, a relatively young person may be
able to obtain a high-deductible policy for under $100 per month.
10. Be sure to look at the extra features of different health
plans when comparing them. Even high-deductible plans may include
eye care discounts, health savings account access, or other
benefits.
Applying these tips when you lose your health insurance will help
decrease costs and enable you to access as much health care as
possible.

Body Detox Tips

Having a cleaner and healthier body sure does give a person more
opportunities for a longer and better life. Through a full body
detox, a person is subjected to the elimination of the harmful
toxic substances one can get from various foods, drinks, skin
care products, and pollution. The kidneys, the liver, intestines,
lymph, lungs and skin are the places in the body where the
detoxification occurs. Through detoxification, most of the toxins
that are stored in body fats are also removed.
As the popularity of detoxification grew, various methods were
discovered for a full body detox. Some can have a body detox diet
following a body detox recipe in line with rigorous exercise to
those who want to do it the cheaper way or a body detox wrap.
Here are the types of body detox programs you can try:
Juice Fasting
By the word juice itself, this kind of fasting refers to the
drinking of vegetable and fruit juices to help in the
detoxification process. Here, it is important to remove certain
food in your diet such as red meat. Actually, in juice fasting,
you should not eat any solid food, most especially cooked ones
and animal products. Juice fasting results to a dramatic loss of
body fat that eventually leads to an increase in metabolism and a
better digestion, where the absorption of nutrients will improve
unquestionably.
Herbal Detox
This kind of body detox program comes in the form of powders,
pills or tea. Because of the vast selection of herbs found
everywhere, you may pick the wrong type of herb for the organ you
want to detoxify that would lead to side effects. That is why,
there are specific types of herbs that are helpful for particular
body part. For example, the Dandelion root and birch leaves are
good for the cleansing of the liver, while cayenne, sage and
ginger are used to cleanse the kidneys.
Detox Bath and Sauna
When you sweat, you are already shedding off those harmful toxins
in your body. That is why exercise or physical activity is
essential in living a healthy life. But if you're not up to
jogging or lifting those barbells, then you can try a detox bath
or a sauna. In a detox bath, you should soak yourself in water
with baking soda or sea salt. You soak for 15-20 minutes and
scrub your skin gently with natural soap and a natural fiber
cloth. The darkness of the water indicates you are eliminating
the toxins from your body.
Bowel Cleansing
Eating high-fiber foods like fruits, vegetables, high-fiber
cereals or having a gentle natural laxative are ways to cleanse
your bowel. In addition, if you practice to eat raw fruits and
vegetables you are accumulating enzymes that are potent and
multipurpose detoxifiers, not to mention, vitamins that naturally
have antioxidants in them.
Probiotics
Yogurt is the best source of what they call the "good
bacteria". If you want to detoxify, then you should look for
yogurts that have the bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus and the
Bifido bacteria. These will defend your body from the unhealthy
bacteria, eliminate toxic chemicals and still provide nutrients.
Body Wrap Detox
Sea clay is used in a body wrap detox. The sea clay compresses
the soft tissues of the skin when it enters your pores until it
reaches the toxins that are found in the skin. As this happens,
the repositioning of the body fats' cells also occurs, which
consequently helps in the elimination of the toxins.

Salicylates and Your Sensitive Skin - Is There a Connection?
Copyright (c) 2009 M Rochell
My Sensitive Skin Care
http://www.mysensitiveskincare.com/
Although you may not have heard of salicylates, your sensitive
skin may be very aware of them! If you're having trouble finding
solutions to your sensitive skin challenges, you may find it
helpful to learn a little about how salicylates could be
affecting your skin and your health.
Salicylates are natural anti-inflammatory chemicals that are
found many foods and personal care products, cosmetics and
medications such as aspirin. Salicylates are also found in
fragrances, artificial colors and dyes and preservatives.
A small amount of salicylates is normally well tolerated by most
people, and they are Mother Nature's way of providing us natural
anti-inflammatory benefits. Just like anything though, too much
of a good thing can turn out to be not very good for our bodies!
In today's world, we are now being inundated with salicylates in
amounts that are much higher than what is normally well tolerated
by the human body. Many of the crops grown today have higher
salicylate contents because foods are now genetically engineered
to reduce their susceptibility to pests and disease.
In addition our lifestyles have changed a lot in recent history.
We now use a wide variety of cosmetics, dental products, personal
care products and medicines that simply were not available
several generations ago. These products contain a much higher
salicylate content than the more natural kinds of personal care
products that were used in days past.
The result is that more and more people are developing mysterious
allergies and allergic symptoms. Although we've all heard of
people who are allergic to aspirin, we might not be aware that
they are allergic to salicylates, which are the natural
salicylate compounds that are also found in so many foods,
personal care products, toothpastes and pain relief products.
Doctors are now just beginning to discover salicylate allergy and
salicylate sensitivity, which have symptoms similar to many other
conditions. Because sensitivity to salicylates is not well known
yet, there are people with allergies and sensitive skin who may
have this condition without realizing it.
Symptoms of Salicylate Sensitivity
Some of the symptoms of salicylate allergy include:
* Skin irritation and itching
* Changes in skin color
* Swelling of the hands and feet
* Mouth ulcers, hives and rashes
* Burning, puffy, or itching eyes
* Swelling in the eyes, face or lips
* Headaches
* Stuffy nose
* Asthma
* Nasal polyps
* Wheezing and coughing
* Exhaustion
* Sinus inflammation
* Nausea
* Diarrhea
* Bedwetting
More serious symptoms include:
* Depression
* Difficulty concentrating
* Memory loss
* Hyperactivity
* Anaphylactic shock
How to Reduce Salicylate Exposure
Salicylates are natural substances found in many healthy foods.
Unless you have a diagnosed case of salicylate allergy, there is
no need to limit your intake of healthy foods. It is wise to
limit your exposure to unnecessary salicylates from other
avenues, so that you don't develop an allergy or sensitivity to
salicylates.
Here are some basic tips to help reduce your exposure to
salicylates, so minimize irritation for your sensitive skin.
* Avoid personal care products with fragrance, dyes and
artificial colorings.
* Do not use facial products with Beta-hydroxy acid or BHA, or
salicylic acid.
* Use a salicylate free toothpaste.
* Use personal care products that do not contain herbal or
botanical ingredients.
* Avoid mentholated pain relief creams such as Ben Gay unless
absolutely necessary. You can find effective herbal pain relief
creams that have more natural ingredients which also contain
salicylates, but in a naturally occurring form.
* Go easy on the spicy foods!
There are many other ways that you can reduce unnecessary
salicylate exposure, by creating healthier lifestyle choices. For
example, coffee, tea, wine, and many alcoholic beverages contain
salicylates. unless you absolutely MUST use these, why not cut
down a little?
Many condiments also contain salicylates, so if you don't need a
ton of jelly, tomato sauce, or vinegar on your food, just reduce
your amounts a little for a few weeks and see how your sensitive
skin reacts. And do you really need all those licorice and
peppermint candies?
With just a few adjustments you can help your body to balance
your exposure to salicylates, and experience fewer allergies and
skin sensitivities!

Most of us try to look and feel our best with diet and exercise.
Few consider the most important measure of our health should be
given to our skin. The epidermis is the body's largest organ and
also the most telling when something is wrong.
Unfortunately, the largest organ frequently gets the least
attention. Your facial complexion reflects health and life as
well as disease, so we should all pay special attention to our
face. Here are a few ways to make your skin reflect your good
health.
1. Diet and Supplements
One of the best ways to maintain a healthy balance is to nourish
your skin at the cellular level. When you are getting the proper
nutrients and hydration, your skin will exude a healthy glow. A
diet rich in dark green, leafy vegetables and plenty of fruit and
fiber are key to healthy living. In addition, supplements play an
important role to add the extra nutrients lost when cooking food.
Vitamins C, E and beta-carotene replenish tired, dead skin cells
and replace them with vibrant living cells. When taken regularly,
these powerful building blocks, called antioxidants, are one of
the best anti-aging tools in your arsenal to combat the ravishes
of time. And to keep your skin firm and elastic, there are a few
simple rules to follow costing very little time or money.
2. Rest
Sleep is an important component to healthy glowing skin since
it's the time your skin cells use to regenerate themselves.
It's hard to do with jobs and children, but try to get at least
eight hours of sound sleep and pay close attention to your sleep
habits. Some people need to sleep face down or in a three quarter
turn, which presses their face into the pillow. With a
traditional feathered pillow, this can spell disaster for your
skin. When the delicate facial tissue is compressed for hours, it
is not able to breath and can deteriorate quickly. Try using a
memory foam pillow that is designed to mold to the contour of
your face and neck. This will keep compression off your face and
protect the elasticity in your skin.
3. Hydration
The importance of eight glasses of water daily is key to good
overall health, especially in the skin. After just a few days of
64 ounces a day, you'll see immediate results in your skin's
suppleness and elasticity. Water flushes away the impurities
embedded just below the surface of the skin, leaving you with a
freshly cleansed appearance all day. In addition, you will notice
that fine lines fade as the hydration process plumps and firms
your face. Water is the only answer to flush away toxins.
Beverages such as coffee, processed juices and sodas also contain
water, but they can add to the impurities lodged in the skin, so
go easy on these choices.
To make the most of your water cleansing, try to avoid foods that
contain salt, as this substance is notorious for water retention,
clogging pores and making your face puffy. If you do eat a salt
culprit, like potato chips, use wise portion control and be sure
to drink plenty of water to flush away the toxins. Other foods to
avoid are cured meats and canned goods that are loaded with
sodium. Check the labels on your favorite products and try to
eliminate processed foods and those containing salt. Sodium is
your enemy and you should avoid it as best you can; your skin and
heart will thank you.
4. Cleansing
Proper daily care starts with a sound cleansing routine to remove
surface particles and deep clean your pores. Try an exfoliating
gel to gently scrub away the grime and slough away dead skin
cells. Beneath the upper layer of skin lie healthy, vibrant cells
just waiting to be released, but they cannot shine until the dead
cells are removed. Some people suffer a mild skin reaction to
daily exfoliating cleansers, but that may be due to chemical
ingredients used in that product. Never use products with harsh
chemicals.
5. Moisturizing
After a facial cleansing, a great way to seal in moisture to your
face is to apply a peel-off mask containing vitamins and
nutrients. One of the most effective masks is a product
containing grape seed that seeps into your pores producing a
lustrous shine and glow. Grape seed is 30 times more powerful
than vitamin C and an excellent building block for cellular
repair. Another effective alternative is a mineral mask that will
deep clean your pores. Use your mask twice weekly for soft,
supple skin and radiant glow.
6. UV Protection
You should also consider possible sun damage in your daily skin
care routine. If you live in a sunny climate or have many outdoor
activities, it would be best to use a sunscreen. Some
dermatologists suggest that you should use sunscreen every day,
no matter where you live.
7. Exercise
Finally, exercise is of paramount importance to keep your
capillaries open and a plentiful blood supply going to your skin.
Aerobic exercise works best, but any kind of workout that brings
the heart rate up will do. If there's no time in your busy
schedule for the gym, try a brisk walk for a minimum of twenty
minutes and watch your skin light up with a rosy glow. Exercise
also acts as a cleanser as the sweat pulls toxins from the pores,
keeping your complexion clean and clear. Daily exercise combined
with water intake will not only enhance your skin, but also
increase your endurance and stamina for life's busy schedule.
Radiant skin, the natural way, involves proper nutrition and
cleansing, rest, water and exercise. Good skin equals good health
and taking the time and effort to develop a proper skin care
regiment can go a long way.

Conquering Menopause
http://bit.ly/NZUcj
Menopause has been the unspoken affliction among women. Until the
late 1990s, the topic was almost taboo. Mothers didn't talk to
their daughters about it and friends rarely included the topic in
conversation. Many women suffered from the symptoms in silence
while others whispered, "She's just going through the change."
This conspiracy of silence, whether intentional or unintentional,
led to a lot of misinformation about menopause and possible
remedies to alleviate the symptoms, which included:
* Hot flashes and night sweats
* Irritability
* Weight gain
* Gas and bloating
* Loss of focus and memory
Just like death and taxes, almost all women will go through
menopause. The average age is around 50. But women can experience
perimenopause, which has symptoms that are almost identical to
menopause, as soon as their mid-30s. And some women will go
through early menopause if their ovaries are removed.
Because medical research moves fast, by the time many women heard
of a remedy that would help alleviate their symptoms, a new one
was already on the market and the old remedy was cited as flawed
and possibly even dangerous for women. Hormone Replacement
Therapy, known as HRT, was cloaked in this silence for many
years. Women followed their doctor's order and took the hormones
because at least something was being done.
That changed in 2002 when the Women's Health Initiative released
the findings of a study done on HRT. The findings revealed that
women who took HRT increased their risks for heart disease,
breast cancer, strokes and pulmonary embolism. The findings left
women looking for answers.
Bio-Identical Hormones
Many women thought they had found the answer in bio-identical
hormones. These hormones are animal derived or synthetic and were
advertised as not having the same adverse effects as their human
counterparts. Actress Suzanne Somers wrote a book touting the
benefits of bio-identical hormones. Pharmacists advertised about
their benefits. And many women tried them.
But the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) never approved
bio-identical hormones. And when the Mayo Clinic and The
Endocrine Society released studies saying that there was no proof
that the bio-identical hormones did not carry the same risks as
HRT, women again felt like the options for easing their
menopausal symptoms were few.
The Good News
Women are not silent about menopause anymore. If anything shows
the changing attitude towards menopause, consider the fact that a
popular musical - appropriately called "Menopause, The Musical"
- is performed at theaters across the nation. As women have
become more open about their struggles, they have become more
open with their doctors. They are no longer accepting that
menopause is just something they will have to live with.
The Internet is full of information about menopause and its
remedies. Google the word "menopause" and you will receive 10.4
million results. But a lot of the information is old - sometimes
years old. Again, women feel that they are left without solid
information on how to conquer menopause.
A Different Approach
An e-book entitled "How to Conquer Menopause" is offering women
the answers they need. The book is not written by doctors but by
real women who have endured the night sweats, mood changes and
loss of libido. They share their experiences with hormone
treatments and natural remedies. In addition, readers will learn:
* The 35 common symptoms of menopause and how to deal with them.
* What to do to stop night sweats and hot flashes.
* The four stages of menopause.
* The truth about bio-identical hormones and hormone replacement
therapy.
* How to cope with the difficult mood swings of menopause.
Women are finding real answers to the shared experience of
menopause.
"Without the insights from this book I would continue, as would
my family, to think I was crazy," said Lesley Carney of Texas.
"I learned to not be fearful of the many symptoms I was having
now that I know why I was having them. I can now face menopause
without fear."
The book allows women to have an intelligent conversation with
their doctors about what treatment is best for them. Alternative
methods are also discussed. This comprehensive guide to menopause
is available for download at the link shown below.

Gentlest Home Remedies for Acne Scars
Copyright (c) 2009 M Rochell
My Sensitive Skin Care
http://www.mysensitiveskincare.com/
Which home remedies for acne scars actually work? And which acne
home remedies are safe for sensitive skin? Here are some of the
acne scar healing tips we have learned that are the gentlest and
safest for sensitive skin.
Having acne is a terrible experience, and even worse are the
scars that are left on your face long after the acne has healed.
It can take many months for acne scars to disappear, and there
are some things you can do to speed up the healing process.
Many people with sensitive skin cannot use traditional acne scar
treatments such as dermabrasion or collagen injections, which are
invasive and can cause irritation, rashes and other side effects.
Homemade acne treatments can be very effective, however for best
results we recommend that you create a comprehensive, whole body
acne treatment program which will help you clear out the root
causes of your acne so that you can prevent your skin from
developing more acne scars.
If you have very severe acne, you may want to consult a qualified
natural health practitioner that can assist you with creating the
dietary and lifestyle changes that will clear your skin and help
your body heal the acne scars. They can also guide you to find
acne scar treatments that are effective even for people with
sensitive skin.
Tips for Using Acne Home Remedies
* Skin Test FIRST - Even the gentlest acne home remedy might not
work for YOUR sensitive skin, so please be sure to do a skin test
FIRST on the back of your arm or the inside of your ear, to see
if these home remedies for acne scars will work for your skin.
* Be Consistent - choose a treatment, first doing a skin test as
I have suggested, and if your sensitive skin does not react to
the treatment, then use it faithfully for at least a week or two.
See how your face looks and feels before making a final decision.
* Find A Good Daily Routine For Your Skin - Using gentle,
fragrance free and hypoallergenic products will help you to
cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin without triggering more
acne outbreaks.
* Treat Your WHOLE Body - home remedies for acne scars are not
just something you dab on your pimples. You need to maximize your
body's miraculous innate healing and rejuvenating capabilities
by modifying your diet and lifestyle. I know, that's not so easy
especially in today's busy world! In order to clear your skin,
you need to drink enough pure water, exercise, eat fresh, whole
foods, and eliminate foods and drinks that trigger acne
outbreaks.
Simplest Acne Scar Home Remedies
Many acne home remedies also work for helping acne scars to heal.
Here are a few of the most popular ones, which you can find in
your kitchen or at the health food store!
Ice Cubes calm the inflammation, reduce the size of pimples and
reduce scarring. After icing, let your face air dry.
Baking Soda And Water, used as a facial mask can both clear acne
outbreaks and reduce scarring.
Lemon Or Lime Juice acts as a skin lightener and will lighten the
scars. You can also use this to treat acne outbreaks.
Ground Organic Orange Peel and water can reduce acne outbreaks
and help the skin heal.
Tomato And Cucumber Slices, applied to your face regularly will
help clear up acne and reduce scarring.
Olive Oil can reduce the visibility of your acne scars and help
to soften them.
Green Tea contains many potent antioxidants which help the skin
to heal and rejuvenate.
Lavender essential oil can help acne outbreaks to heal and also
will help the scars to disappear.
Vitamin E is helps the skin to heal from scarring. You can apply
a little to your acne scars, and also take internally.
Vitamin C also helps the skin to rejuvenate and to produce more
collagen. Some facial products with Vitamin C can cause burning,
so choose a good hypoallergenic product line that works for
sensitive skin.
A Comprehensive Home Facial Treatment for Acne Scar Healing
If you want to do a more comprehensive treatment program for your
acne with natural ingredients, this simple and very affordable
program will clean your skin, open your pores, moisturize and
tone your skin and reduce irritation and acne inflammations.
* Steam your face over a pan of hot water for one to three
minutes with a towel over your head. For best results, do this
morning and night.
* Apply a paste of baking soda mixed with a little water to your
face. Leave on for one to three minutes.
* Rinse with cool water.
* Gently pat your skin dry, then wait a few minutes until your
face is completely dry.
* Apply a small amount of aloe vera gel, mixed with tea tree
oil. If the tea tree oil is too intense for your sensitive skin,
try lavender oil. If that doesn't work, simply use the aloe gel
by itself.
These home remedies for acne scars are just the beginning. To
completely clear up your skin, consider eating a more natural
diet and drinking an abundance of pure, clean water. Recent
research suggests that this can reduce your acne by 50% or more!
Foods that have been known to cause acne outbreaks include
processed foods, sugar, caffeine, and dairy products. It IS
possible to completely clear up your acne and to heal your acne
scars naturally!

Which Full Face CPAP Mask is Best for You?
See TERMS OF REPRINT to the end of the article.
Article Description:
If you've been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, you are
undoubtedly trying to narrow the choice of masks. If your
mouth opens during sleep, one option would be full face CPAP
masks. The full face CPAP mask is used to deliver pressure
through both the nose and mouth. Trying to decide which full
face CPAP mask to use can be complex and expensive. The
number of mask options available is confounding. Based upon
comfort, fit, good seal, and durability, we recommend the
following three full face CPAP masks.

Which Full Face CPAP Mask is Best for You?

If you've been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, you are undoubtedly
trying to narrow the choice of masks. If your mouth opens during
sleep, one option would be full face CPAP masks. The full face
CPAP mask is used to deliver pressure through both the nose and
mouth. Trying to decide which full face CPAP mask to use can be
complex and expensive. The number of mask options available is
confounding. Based upon comfort, fit, good seal, and durability,
we recommend the following three full face CPAP masks.
Resmed Ultra Mirage Full Face
The Resmed Ultra Mirage full face mask has been around for years
and still proves to be a top performer. This mask utilizes a one
piece silicone cushion that surrounds the nose and mouth and is
positioned from the nose bridge to just under your bottom lip. A
standard 4 point headstrap keeps the mask securely fixed to the
face. The Ultra Mirage also has a silicone forehead support pad
with four adjustment positions to help optimize comfort and fit.
In talking to many CPAP users, this mask has an effective seal
even at CPAP pressures of 17cmH2o through 20cmH2o. Parts are also
readily available for the Ultra Mirage. As with all CPAP masks,
the silicone cushion and headgear should be replaced every 6 to 8
months. If your CPAP pressure is higher than average and you are
struggling to find an acceptable mask, the Ultra Mirage is a
excellent choice.
Resmed Mirage Quattro Full Face
The Mirage Quattro is Resmed's fourth generation full face mask
and is quickly becoming a favorite with many CPAP users. Although
a few ounces heavier than the Ultra Mirage, the Quattro delivers
a more customized experience. The two similarities between Ultra
Mirage and the Quattro are the standard 4 point headgear and
cushion placement on your face. A nice upgrade from the Ultra
Mirage is with respect to the forehead assembly which Resmed
terms the Micro dial. By turning the forehead Micro Dial, it
allows users to easily and quickly adjust the forehead support
for a personalized fit. The Mirage Quattro's MicroFit dial
offers a choice of 24 positions on the forehead support to suit
nearly every individual facial structure. The second important
upgrade from the Ultra Mirage to the Quattro is the cushion
itself. The Quattro utilizes a dual-wall cushion that resembles a
flexible spring. The mask's Spring Air(tm) cushion technology
accommodates movement during sleep and provides an effective
solution for jaw drop. We have also had many CPAP users comment
on the quietness of this mask. The improved vent design helps
softly disperse the air. Like the Ultra Mirage Full Face mask,
parts like the silicone cushion and the headgear are readily
available
Resmed Mirage Liberty
The Mirage Liberty is a unique full face mask that seals
individually at the mouth and nose using nasal pillows. The
cushion that covers the mouth uses the same spring air technology
as the Quattro. The soft dual wall silicone nasal pillows are
slightly inserted into the nose to provide airflow. Because there
is no forehead pad or assembly this full face mask utilizes a
truly unobtrusive design with a clear field of vision. Patients
who feel uncomfortably confined with a full face mask such as the
Quattro and Ultra Mirage will enjoy the non- Claustrophobic
features of the Liberty. This mask is also offered with multiple
sizes all included with the mask package, which takes the guess
work out of deciding which size nasal pillow to purchase.
In Conclusion
All Three Full Face CPAP masks make use of a standard size tube
opening, which means there is no extra adapter part required and
the tubing supplied with your CPAP machine will work effectively
together. There are many CPAP full face masks and unfortunately
most insurance companies will not always pay for a new mask when
you need one. CPAP therapy will only be effective with continued
use and using a full face CPAP mask that is comfortable and fits
securely is essential. Hopefully, we have provided some insight
and guidance into the choices and decision making to help you
meet your sleep needs.
