The patient
suffered years of serious disease, with several operations, on medication for
the rest of his life. Now the health problem is “somewhat” under control, in
the sense that he can go on with his routine of life, though with some limitation
in activities and diets, and suffer the side effects of the medication.
He is not
in deep pain and suffering.
His belief
is that he can cope with life. He is a devoted Christian.
The
following is the coaching conversation I had with him.
“How would
you describe your current health condition, in the scale of 0 to 10, 10 being
good health”
“I would
say, 7 out of 10”
“10 years
from now, assuming the problem gets worse, you suffer more and more, with more restriction
in your daily life, in the context of your life then " retired, etc. What
happens then, to you? “
He was in
deep thought for quite a while " thinking and imaging the scenarios of his life
in 10 years, with worsening condition of his health, ….. there were expression
of sadness, …
“I believe
I will HAVE to accept it, surrender myself to God completely.”
“By full
acceptance and surrendering yourself to God, what is your daily life routine,
from the moment you wake up in the morning, the minute details of things you do
or do not do throughout the day, what is your state of minds and moods, or changing
state of minds and moods?”
He began to
think deeper, … his family situations, retire with what activities or
non-activities, his deteriorating health conditions, helpless and suffering, …
the sense of loneliness, fear, pain, lack of energy and motivation to move on
to the very next minute of his life, … what is then his mission of his life?
My coaching
question continues …..
“What do
you think was Jesus’ thought when he was crucified, with so much physical pain
inflicted on him, .. when he said ‘I have full acceptance and surrender myself
to God, and even forgive the soldier’ who pierced on his body while he was on
the cross, …. did Jesus abandon his
Mission? feel de-motivated about his
life? Feeling no more choice in his life?...”
The patient came to his realization that his imagined future scene is a reflection of his current state of mind " sub-conscious and hidden, as he feels de-motivated about his daily life, lack of energy to make choices that can best bring higher state of peace and happiness.
This may well be that his state of mind makes healing to his disease difficult.
He is
willing to try Energy Psychology to make changes to his life.
(Many people are in similar situations like the patient mentioned above " just coping with life with diminishing energy and motivation in life, little or no purpose, let alone a mission in life)
