Health Benefits of Apple ( Malus Pumila )
The Apple, a rose family member, is the most popular temperate-zone fruit, and it grows in almost every state in the United States. Apples contain malic and tartaric acids, which inhibit fermentation in the stomach, making apples easier to assimilate than most other fruits. They are cooling and act upon the spleen-pancreas and stomach meridians. Apples are moistening and so ease thirst, reduce fever, and ease dry , hot lungs. In addition , apples - easpecially green apples - cleanse the liver and gallbladder and help soften gallstones. Their pectin promotes beneficial intestinal flora and supports normal colon function.
To reduce fever in children, serve them grated raw apples. To ease a dry cough, steam apples with honey. To eliminate mucus from t he lungs, prepare aplles with agar. Aplles are an excellent low-calorie source of pectin, fiber, and nutrients. Their flavanoids ,may reduce risk of heart disease and inhibit the development of certain cancers. An apple a day will surely go a long way for your health ! Next time, instead of snacking on french fires, chips and soda, try an apple, apple juice, baked apple, bread with apple butter, spice up with apple cider vinegar or simply drink it straight- apple cider !
