Mickie was born a beautiful bouncing baby boy and by all accounts normal. At the age of 8 months he received four vaccines and I remember that he was very lethargic for a few days and he stopped smiling, but then he seemed fine a few days later. On his first birthday he received the MMR cocktail and within days developed chronic diarrhea, that did not get better until he was five and went on the GFCF diet(Gluten, Casein free). I got so used him having such foul smelling poops that I just thought that was just how it was always going to be.

He stopped responding to the family and seemed fixated on the TV. He started walking endlessly and started wondering away every chance he had. He stopped taking naps at about a year and started staying up all night. When he was finally diagnosed at 22 month nothing could have prepared me for what was to come. Chronic diahrea, self injurious behavior, head banging, wondering away, not wanting to eat anything but milk, not chewing, not gaining weight, food intolerances, I could go on.

If you have tried treatments that worked you are welcomed to share. It can be very lonely in Autism world, when your child is none-verbal and hurts himself, plus everything else that comes with the diagnosis of severe autism.

I believe Mickie's Autism was caused by an overwhelming assault on his immune system via vaccines. Mickie had been born with Selective IgA deficiency, and impaired methilation, but I didn't know this until he was 5 years old. By then he had lost all speech and all eye contact. My beautiful bouncing baby boy had become a walking vegetable. There is always hope!
