Hi Name of Contact Person Here,
I am writing you on behalf of HEAL (Health Education
and Access Link), an organization at SFSU that is
committed to informing the public about low-cost and
free medical resources, creating an awareness about
health risks,
and providing other educational opportunities via
health
events to San Francisco State students and the greater
Bay Area community.
HEAL is holding a Health Fair on Tuesday, November 29
on the San Francisco State campus. We were hoping
***organization name here***
would be interested in having a table at the event.
During the event, tables will be provided for health
organizations where they can distribute fliers and
literature related to their organization and the
services
they provide. Set-up begins at 9 am and the event
will
end by 3pm. An on-stage microphone at Malcom X Plaza
will be available from 12pm-1:30pm so organizations
can talk
about what they have to offer the students at SFSU.
We really hope your organization is interested in
helping to make this event a success!
Please feel free to email me back if you have any
additional questions regarding the event.
Sincerely,

__________________________A good follow-up email_____
Hi Name of Contact Person Here,
I just wanted to send you a follow-up email to ensure you had
all the details regarding the upcoming Health Fair on Nov. 29.
The event itself will be held at Malcom X Plaza
directly in front
of the Cesar Chavez Student Center (located at G7 on
campus map:
http://www.sfsu.edu/~sfsumap/) at the San Francisco
State campus
located at 1600 Holloway Avenue, San Francisco, CA
94132.
For more information regarding visiting the campus,
please
check out the link below:
http://www.sfsu.edu/prospect/visiting.htm
Right now, there is no need to check in, no contact
person, you can just come at 9 am to Malcolm X Plaza.
If you need anything, our vice-president BinhTam Ha
will probably be supervising until around 9:30 am.
We have secured funds to *fully* pay for off-campus
health orgs' parking spaces.
Organizations can unload in Lot 4 (Loading Zone --
located behind J. Paul
Leonard Library on Holloway Avenue -- H8 on campus
map:
http://www.sfsu.edu/~sfsumap/), pick up their parking
permits
[a HEAL volunteer will be there on Tuesday morning at
9 am to distribute
the parking permits], and then proceed to park their
motor vehicles in Lot 20 (E4 on campus map:
http://www.sfsu.edu/~sfsumap/). We need to
know in advance how many cars you need spaces for so
please email me back with this information as soon
as you can.
Otherwise, if you have any questions regarding parking, please
contact Huong Nguyen at huong04@... - she will
be the volunteer at Lot 4 helping you park
the morning of the event.
Looking forwarding to seeing you!
Best Regards,

Just thought while I was still thinking about it I'd look on the
internet for lodging. This hostel looks really nice, and we could
reserve our own group room. $17 a night is pretty good.

time of preference and phone number by 5pm on Tuesday, Nov. 22. I look

Hi, Everyone,
As the semester is coming to a close, I just wanted thank those who
have been active participants in HEAL for their hard work the last
couple months. I also want to remind each of you about the strong
finish to the semester we are going make.
Most recently, through the hard work of Boramee, and many members
who helped at the fundraising table, HEAL was able to donate $429 to
the Common Ground Collective of New Orleans. These funds were
presented at the Hurricane Katrina Teach-In, and, as Jared noted in
the last post, equaled about 1/3 of the total funds raised at the
event. The Common Ground Collective is an amazing organization doing
inrcredible rebuilding work in New Orleans, and I can't be happier
about giving them the money we raised. Thank you, again Boramee!
And our finish this semester will be strong! Coming up, we have two
more meetings, each with a guest speaker:
Tues, Nov 22: TH 326 6-7 pm meeting. Dr. Malcom Smith, M.D. is the
Medical Director of Student Health Services. Will give update on
efforts to cover all students at SFSU with health insurance.
Tues, Nov. 29: TH429 last HEAL Meeting of the semester 6-7pm. Dr.
Ford, from Stanford, will be discussing his path toward becoming a
physician, with a special emphasis on his experience as a student
and physician of color.
Also don't forget the HEALTH FAIR. Binhtam will be signing up
volunteers:
*Tues, Nov 29: HEALTH FAIR (9-3 pm). So far, the
And,lastly, City Team. Contact Binhtam if you're interested:
*Sat, Dec 3: City Team SF (11:30-3pm)
Again, thank you to everyone for being part of HEAL. By giving of
our time, we undoubtably impact the lives and well-being of others
in a positive manner. It's a gift to others and a gift to ourselves
that we should all feel proud of!
Sincerely,
Kevin
Fantastic work, Boramee. And the resta y'all for that matter. I see that HEAL contributed about one third of all the money raised. It was indeed a great event. I just wish I could have stayed all day and seen all the speakers -- would've gotten a lot more out of that than class, but alas....
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to thank all of you who went to the Katrina event
yesterday, especially the volunteers. The day went by so smoothly
and all your help was greatly appreciated. The teach-in was
definitely a success and one of the most amazing experiences that I
have ever been involved with. The guest speakers were exceptional,
especially the evening keynote speakers, Malik Rahim and Curtis
Muhammed. The stories from people who were displaced here to the Bay
Area literally put me into tears. I have never been more moved or
more inspired to help make a change. I am so grateful that HEAL had
the opportunity to be involved with this event. I feel so honored to
be a student of San Francisco State.
I hope that you were all able to take away something positive from
the event. I know I have.
Thank you all once again.
Boramee
P.S. HEAL raised a total of $429 through fundraising, which will be
donated to the Common Ground Collective in Louisiana. Donations
collected throughout the Katrina event totaled $1232.77. Great job
everyone!
News: We have a guest speaker [Dr. Ford, graduate of Stanford Med.Sku,
has confirmed with me last week that he can come in this semester to
talk to us]. Dr. Ford will be speaking 5:30pm-6:00pm on Tuesday, Nov.
29th. He'll be talking about his experience as a minority attending
professional school and his pathway to medicine.
Meeting next week on Tuesday Nov. 22th at 5pm.
There's less than two weeks left before the HEAL Health Fair.
Therefore, I need ALL of the Outreach and Access Committee people to
attend this meeting for sure. It is your responsibility to ask for
help where needed, especailly if you don't understand what you signed
up for... I really need you guys on board to get this together [I've
still not heard from some of you] and I cannot do everything solo in
such a short amount of time.
Please contact all of the health-related orgs I've assigned to
you, call the orgs via telephone, and send out an email to these
people following the model statement I've generated. [If you have
questions please contact me ASAP! so that I may clarify your duties]
and resond to my email with an update by noon this Friday, the 18! I
am here for you if you need to talk.
Sincerely,
BinhTam Ha

Hello heal peeps,
I've just put in a request for a "special event" with the AS
Office. And early next week, on Monday, Nov. 14, there will be a
financial meeting with the Associated Students' Staff in T160 at 2
pm; however, I'm trying to postpone their meeting time until later
[3pm] b/c I have class [time conflict]; but in the meantime, I need
to find someone who can talk about the HEALTH FAIR for me this
upcoming MOnday. Will anyone be available to talk on behalf of the
HEAL Health Fair? Let me know [via email asap] if you are willing.
Thanks!
ATTN, officers, the Associated Student Office will be holding a
training meeting [about financial planning & how to spend money] next
week on Wed. NOv. 16, in T143 from 12-1 pm, [Portia, Boramee & Kevin]
please go if you can make it, everyone is welcome to attend as well.
Outreach and Access committee: please send me an updated email ASAP
about your progress and the responses you've received from the health
related organizations I've assigned to you. I look forward to hearing
from you soon. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
BinhTam Ha
PS: Jared, I forgive you :) it's ok.
Hello all:
This is a reminder that our meeting for Tues, Nov 8 will be held in
TH 429 tonight from 6-7pm and there's no meeting tomorrow. We will
have no more meetings on Wednesdays from here on out, our last three
meetings this month will all be held on Tuesdays at 6 pm.
O&Access committee: I look forward to hearing about everything
you've done thus far. See you tonight!
Sincerely,
BinhTam Ha
Hi Everyone,
Tomorrow's meeting will be held at 6pm in TH 429. It is very important
that you attend this meeting. We will have flyers and posters for the
Katrina teach-in and I will be assigning volunteers tasks for the day
of the event.
Please try to be punctual.
Hope to see you all tomorrow,
Boramee
Hi all,
On the day of the Katrina event, there will be a dinner held from
4:30 to 5pm and a health related talk from 5-7pm. They will be
serving authentic Louisiana cuisine catered by a local restaurant.
The speakers during this time are very inspirational people from
Louisiana, who are very active now with helping the victims of the
hurricane. This is an amazing opportunity, if you are able to
attend. I recommend staying the entire time from 4:30-7pm. I think
it may be a little rude to leave while the speakers are talking.
They will be asking students for a $5 donation at the door, but it
will definitely not be required. There also a limit of 75 people who
can
attend the dinner. And it will be first come, first serve.
If you are interested in attending, please email me ASAP. I need a
head count give back to the executives.
Talk to you soon.
Boramee

Hi again everyone,
Just want to remind you all of tabling this week. Very few people have
signed up for Tuesday, so if you have any time to spare, I would
appreciate the help. If not, at least stop by the table to say to
support us. Wednesday could use more people as well.
The table will be located on the cement walk way across from the
Malcolm X stage, right next to all the flag poles. We should be easy
to find.
Take care and see you soon.
Boramee

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to thank all of you who were able to make it out to the
enrollment event today. I know that I had missed some of you while
doing my rounds on the pier, but I hope that you met some new people
and had fun anyways.
The day started off kind of wet, so we decided not to do tabling for
Doc Gator :o(. We instead devoted our time to talking to the
employees of the pier and encouraging them to come by and sign up for
programs. After the sky cleared up a bit, we ended up getting a good
number of people to come by. Kevin or myself should be receiving the
count of the actual number of people who signed up soon.
According to Mario, our contact for the event and one of the original
founders of HEAL, there may be more enrollment event opportunities
coming up pretty soon. We had quite a big request for us to return
to the pier again.
Overall, the event was a success. I highly encourage all of you to
get involved when these opportunities arise. I had so much fun today
and I hope to see more of you the next time around.
Take care everyone.

Hi Everyone,
Instead of tabling/fundraising on Wednesday this week, we have decided
to put our focus towards the Pier 39 Enrollment event. We will be
helping employees of the pier sign up for low cost health insurance
plans. If you are available between the hours of 8 am and 4pm, please
come by. Parking validation will be provided for the parking garage
across the street from the Pier.
For those of you in the education committee, we are going to need you
to volunteer for the DOC GATOR table. There should be a lot of
children on the pier that day. We will have display models, games, and
coloring books for the kids.
For those of you in the access/outreach committee, we are going to need
you for all the enrollment event tasks. This includes directing the
pier 39 employees on where to go and what to do, copying files,
transporting documents etc.
If you are not on either of these committees, you can still volunteer
for any of the tasks previously mentioned.
Kevin and myself will be at the pier by 7:45am. If you are available
early morning as well and would like to carpool, I am willing to pick
you up at SFSU no later than 7am. Lisa will also be leaving SFSU at
11am for the pier if you would rather carpool with her at a later time.
I will probably stay at the event for most of the day, so I will not be
able to give rides back to SFSU. I believe MUNI is very convienent to
and from the pier.
If you need more information, I posted the flyer in the 'FILES' folder
under 'EVENT FLYERS'.
Please contact me or Kevin ASAP if you are able to attend.
Thanks so much.

Hi All,
HEAL will be tabling/fundraising on Tuesday and Thursday this week.
Tuesday is the Stress Relief event with SHAC and Thursday is the food
fair. If you are available between 10am-2pm, please let me know as
soon as possible. We will be raising money for the Hurricane Katrina
teach-in. We will be selling vege eggrolls, lumpia, juice boxes and
possibly mardi gras bracelets, succulent plants, and blown glass.
I need as many volunteers as possible, so please let me know if you can
be there.
Take care.

Hi All,
Please remember to edit your profiles so that your real name shows
under you screen name. It's hard to tell who is who when screen names
are so creative. Just click on 'EDIT MEMBERSHIP', then 'ADD NEW
PROFILE', 'EDIT', and 'EDIT PROFILE INFORMATION'. Then just change the
necessary information. You can just use your first name if you like.
Thanks so much.

Hi, Everyone,
So the Pier 39 Enrollment event will be from 8am until 4pm. It's a
great opportunity to get out and make a difference. Please post a
replly to this message if you want to volunteer for a 2-hour block
during this event. I think our assistance would be most helpful early
(7:45 - 9:45) and during lunch (11:30 - 1:30). If you can, plan to go
then.
The flyer for the event will also be posted when I figure out how to
do that!
Thanks,
Kevin
Hi All,
I have posted the most current list of HEAL events on the Yahoo Groups
calendar. Click on 'Calendar' then the 'Events list' tab. You should
see all upcoming HEAL meetings (some of which are mandatory),
tabling/fundraising events, and volunteer opportunities.
Keep checking the calendar periodically as new events may be posted.
Take care,
Boramee
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to HEAL's Yahoo Groups! This is going to be our primary
method of communication. Meeting minutes will be listed in
the 'FILES' folder under 'MINUTES'. News and upcoming events should
be posted as a message to the group.
If you would like to send a message to all members, please
select 'POST'and type in your message. I've set the site up so that
message replies are only sent to the sender and not to everyone.
This should eliminate some of the SPAM you receive.
The calendar will be updated with all available volunteer
opportunities as they arise.
Please make sure to edit your profile so that your 'REAL' name shows
up along with your Yahoo ID. This will make it a lot easier for
everyone.
I hope everyone is having a great semester so far. I'm looking
forward to a very exciting and productive year for us.
