al - its great that you are educating yourself about the bill and developing your own opinions.
in general, i did not send this out as an open forum becuz i know most of us don't have time or inbox space for it, i jus wanted to share my opinions with my community and i encourage you all to do that with your communities. if you want to talk with me personally then shoot me a line.
obviously this is a controversial issue and there can be countless dialogues about it. but lets not do that thru these emails. i know all of you, have spoken with you and that is why i wrote to you.
please do not reply to this email trying to convince people of your own agenda. we must respect everyones views and positions whatever they may be.
i apologize, i did not think this would happen. i only sent this out because i felt it necessary to share this information, i in no way intended to try and push my agenda on anyone. if this is how you felt, then please simply erase the email or if you feel the need, send a single reply to me asking me not to include you in this way.
again, please do not reply all to this email.
have a beautiful day everyone.

I don't disagree or agree with you. But I do want to clarify some aspects about the bill. Up to 96% of Americans will be covered by the House bill. Currently, one sixth of the US population does not have health insurance, millions who have insurance are underinsured, thousands will continue to lose their health coverage and 40,000 Americans will continue to die due to the lack of health insurance. Yes, everyone will be required to have health insurance just like everyone that owns a car has to by law have car insurance, pay taxes, pay into social security and medicare. It isn't fair that young people are not buying health insurance. And...just to clarify if you can't afford insurance there will be an affordable public insurance plan and tax cuts. And the government isn't "cushioning the blow" by making it illegal for private insurance companies to deny health insurance based on pre-existing conditions, neither by creating a government-sponsored health insurance plan. I believe, and I hope you agree too, that it is WRONG for health insurance companies to deny coverage to someone that has diabetes or had cancer in the past. On abortion...the President is strongly against the amendment and I am pretty sure it will be eliminated during conferences between both chambers or the Senate will kill it. In an ideal world, we would want to cover everyone but that is simply not possible. The political reality is that we cannot cover undocumented immigrants. Racism? Really? I don't think so....I am Mexican-American and I can guarantee you that the government will not deny me coverage because I happen be of Mexican-ancestry. If the democrats attempted to insure undocumented immigrants that would effectively kill the bill. Health care reform is a civil rights issue that must be solved today not tomorrow or next year or in a decade. This bill has to pass now. It is a bill for the poor, the middle class and the average American. EVERYONE......contact your representative to voice your opposition to the abortion amendment. PLEASE....PLEASE....PLEASE contact your representative to support the bill. It really does work.

* in the new plan, all people will be required to have some form of health insurance, this new insurance plan forces people who already cant afford health insurance to pay for it or else they will have to pay even higher costs for their healthcare. of course they are trying to cushion the blow by forcing insurance companies to end some of their most profitable policies like denying due to pre-existing conditions and providing a more affordable government paid insurance option.
* aside from this abortion will not be covered under the state sponsored program and any private provider receiving govt funding will not be able to provide coverage for that procedure. only under specific circumstances would it be allowed. women who don't have the luxury of being economically wealthy will be forced onto the black market for abortions, effectively putting millions of lives at risk.
* immigrants who entered this country "illegally" will not be covered under the new bill. and worse, they even want to deny coverage to those who have been legal residents for less than five years. this is pure racism that tells people their lives do not matter, that they don't even count when it comes to national healthcare. this is a racism which costs hundreds of lives daily right here in the U.S. and this new bill does nothing but reassert that ignorance.

As health care reform moves forwards, there is a chance women are going to get left behind because of a pre-existing condition: we can get pregnant.
The Stupak Amendment is part of the health care reform the House approved. It bars a new government-run insurance plan from covering abortions, except in cases of rape, incest or peril to the life of the mother, and it prohibits any health plan that receives federal subsidies in a new insurance marketplace from offering abortion coverage. The Stupak Amendment effectively requires women buying health insurance with their own money to purchase abortion coverage through a separate supplemental plan, as a so-called rider on the policy. According to Planned Parenthood, there has been no greater restriction on women's health since the Hyde Amendment was passed in 1976. The Stupak Amendment must be kept out of the Senate Bill. What can you do? ·Join the NARAL phone bank on Thursday (11/19) to call Senators and tell them to vote no (see below)
·Sign a petition asking Senator Reid, President Obama, and Speaker Pelosi to eliminate the Stupak amendment and protect women's health

Start-up health website RateADrug.com recently finished its first round of the PPREP Internship program for pre-health students. Interns gained hands-on experience in the health field, had their research and profiles published (http://rateadrug.com/Finalists.aspx), and competed for a $1500 tuition scholarship. Students from over forty institutions applied to the program, and our eight finalists are showcased on the website. Raj Shah, psychology major and pre-med student from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, took home first place for his work focusing on over the counter pain medications.
RateADrug.com is a website where people take evaluations about their medications and supplements, and the aggregate scores about effectiveness, satisfaction, and side effects for each are displayed for others to view. Wall Street Journal recently cited RateADrug.com in the article 'Living With A Lifesaving Drug's Side Effects" as an online resource for patients, saying "Web sites including WebMD and RateADrug encourage patients to post their own user reviews of medication side effects." (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203278404574412791106176098.html). Mashable.com wrote an article about RateADrug.com, saying, "How do you know what [your] side effects might be? Sure, your doctor will probably explain them and you can read the label, but what do real users have to say? Will it make you see blue, cause indigestion, or simply zonk you out and make you think you’ve been fishing all day? That’s where RateADrug comes in." (http://mashable.com/2009/03/17/rateadrug/).
