Hi everyone,
Clinica Martin Baro is holding interviews for new volunteers on
Monday February 12th in Ethnic Studies/Psychology 116 on a first
come, first served basis starting at 6pm. Applications and
orientation packets are available now on the door of room 111A in
that same building. Please read all information thoroughly before
applying.
Clinica Baro is a student run free clinic in the Mission District of
San Francisco that provides free of charge primary care services to
the underserved Latino immigrant population. The clinic is completely
student run and is a collaboration between SFSU undergraduates and
UCSF medical students, faculty and physicians. The clinic is open
only on Saturdays starting at 8am.
The clinic's mission is to not only provide exceptional care to our
patients in their primary language, but to also transform
undergraduates into life-long advocates for the underserved
communities.
The major requirements for the clinic are as follows:
1) Attend mandatory Monday night meetings at 7pm at SFSU.
2) Have taken or plan to take within next semester or two RAZA 210
(Latino Health Care Perspectives) This class is especially important
for students who want to have direct patient contact as this will
serve as liability insurance. Also it is important as volunteers to
have somewhat of an understanding of the cultural barriers faced by
our patient population.
You do not have to speak Spanish to volunteer.
If you cannot meet the two requirements above, but still would like
to volunteer, there are many committees that need extra hands. You
will not be able to work in the clinic directly, however.
If you are interested in applying, please pick up an application and
show up to the interviews.
To make it a little easier for you all, I have also posted
applications and orientation info in the files section of the HEAL
yahoo groups.
If you have any other questions, please respond to this email or
email me directly at boramee123@....
Take care,
Boramee
