Dear Pre-Meds:

This message is a continuation of the previous one I just sent.

See message below from Sha Jones, an SFSU informal post-bac alumnae who is
presently attending Stanford Med school. There is an extensive Mentorship
Program available through the conference. Please consider making use of it.

Subject: [sfsupbso] SUMMA mentorship program at Stanford
To: sfsupbso@yahoogroups.com

The 2006-2007 *SUMMA (Stanford University Minority Medical Alliance)
Medical Mentorship Program* focuses on reaching out to disadvantaged
pre-medical students at community and state colleges of the Bay Area
where mentorship is needed the most.

By providing one-on-one mentoring between a Stanford medical
student and pre-medical student, we hope to create a welcoming
environment for the mentor-mentee relationship to grow.

In an upcoming introductory kick-off event, mentees will be
presented to an array of resources provided by the Stanford campus and
community. The mentees will meet their mentors, School of Medicine
faculty, and Stanford's Center of Excellence (COE) staff. After the
initial meeting, the program requires the mentor and mentee meet at
least once per month to discuss issues and strategies for getting into
medical school, academics, community involvement, etc.

Mentees will be expected to attend quarterly workshops to improve as
medical school applicants ( i.e. MCAT strategies, study skills,
personal statement writing, etc.). Our program provides the
opportunity to experience the Stanford University School of Medicine
on a regular basis by attending lectures, small group discussions, and
possibly clinical experiences with medical student mentors. The hope
is that you will get a sense of what a day in the life of a Stanford
medical student is really like.

You can find more information about the program at:
