The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) Child Health and
Disability Prevention (CHDP) is offering a valuable volunteer experience related
to childhood obesity prevention and management. They are specifically interested
in SFSU students interested in Dietetics, Kinesiology, and Medicine. CHDP has
recently formed a collaborative group called the SF CHDP Childhood Obesity
Prevention Workgroup. Some SFSU students are already working with them.
CHDP is looking for volunteers who can work independently and communicate well
with professional/medical staff and patients. The Workgroup's goal is to
implement a city-wide system that will provide follow up and case management for
overweight children (and their parents) who are guided into the system by their
doctors. The focus is on public health but later assignments may take place at
medical clinics, and may involve patient contact.
Thanks,
Barry
