Dear Students:
Please see the message below about an excellent opportunity to volunteer at
Maitri, a 15-bed, AIDS-focused treatment center and hospice located in SF.
Please contact Stan Stone <sstone@...> if you are interested in
volunteering at this site. Maitri offers a free 2-weekend training on
September 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th, 2006. The tentative time is from 10am-5pm
each day.

I am writing about your possible interest in volunteering at Maitri. As
you may, or may not know, Maitri is a fifteen room residence for people
living with AIDS. We serve low-income men and women who are severely
disabled from AIDS, and need skilled nursing or end of life care. Maitri
is a truly unique place, providing quality, loving care in a beautiful,
warm environment.
Volunteers at Maitri play a vital role in resident care, providing
emotional, practical, and spiritual support; helping to serve meals in
the dining room, escorting to doctor's appointments and much more. To be
a volunteer, you must participate in our volunteer training after which
we ask for a minimum six month commitment of four hours per week.
Our next 4-day training is scheduled for September 9th, 10th, 16th and
17th, 2006. The tentative time is from 10am-5pm each day.
If you are interested in our training, please contact Stan Stone with
your mailing address in order to receive a volunteer application packet.
You can also visit our website at www.maitrisf.org to learn more about
us and to access a volunteer application and volunteer program
information. A pre-training interview is required before attending the
training; I will contact you a month or so prior to schedule the
interview. You are welcome to contact me before that if you have any
questions.
If you are eager to begin earlier, you can do so by helping out in the
kitchen (if your desired shift is available). This is with the
understanding that you will attend the next training. You can also be a
one time volunteer at one or all of the many fund raising events as they
do not require training and are generally lots of fun!
Thank you for your interest in being a part of Maitri. So many
volunteers have expressed how their experience here has enriched their
lives; we truly wouldn't be able to provide the quality care we do
without the dedicated work of our volunteers.
