Subject: 22nd Annual Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) Regional
Conference at Stanford
To: montez@...
Dear Pre-health Student,
It is with great pleasure that we invite you and
to participate in the 22nd Annual Latino Medical
Student Association (LMSA) Regional Conference
hosted by the LMSA chapter at Stanford University School of Medicine.
LMSA is a network of students, alumni, and health
professionals whose mission is to promote the
development of disadvantaged students through
education, volunteerism, and professional
networking opportunities that foster diversity,
higher education, and the improved health of underserved communities.
Our annual regional conference enables the twelve
LMSA chapters to convene and assemble experts in
a wide range of disciplines from around the
country to conduct seminars on Latino issues and
skills development for high school,
undergraduate, and medical students, and a
variety of healthcare professionals. The
conference is also our chief fundraising event to
help finance and support numerous outreach
programs for all LMSA chapters. The proceeds from
the conference will go towards our mentorship
programs, community health screenings and
education, community youth programs, future LMSA
conferences, as well as academic
scholarships. The theme of this year’s
conference is “Creating Leadership: Striving to
Improve Latino Healthcare”, and it will be held
on the Stanford University campus from April 7-8, 2006.
The first day will be targeted to high school and
pre-health audience and will provide various
workshops and seminars for these students, such
as: applying to medical school, successful
interviewing, personal statement writing, health
care careers panels, and MCAT strategies, just to name a few.
The second day of the conference will focus on
critical issues in health care, community health,
career development, and health policy. Some of
the seminars will address medical career
planning, residency and training programs,
community health issues, health care access
proposals, and much more. We will also hold a
student research poster symposium to allow
attendees at all levels to showcase their work in
basic science, clinical science, or public health related research projects.
In addition to the two-day conference, we will
also host a banquet at the Crowne Plaza Cabana
Palo Alto on the night of Saturday, April
8th. Among the distinguished speakers invited to
the conference and banquet is the United States
Surgeon General, Dr. Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S.
Attached you will find a flyer we hope you will
share with your peers. To learn more about the
