Dear Pre-Health Students,
We are looking for research volunteers for a UCSF study on physical
activity, obesity, and child health. We will be conducting a
Randomized Controlled Trial in 7 San Francisco elementary schools
during the 2009-10 school year to examine the impact of an
after-school soccer and literacy program (America SCORES) on child
health and academic outcomes. We are looking for volunteers to help
with anthropometric and fitness data collection with 4th and 5th grade
elementary school students. No previous research experience is
necessary, but experience with kids or working in schools will be
helpful. Data collection will take place after school (generally from
3:00 – 5:30) during the months of September, November, and May.
Other opportunities for data entry, analysis, and qualitative research
may become available, as well. This is an excellent opportunity to
work closely with a pediatrician and a team of researchers at UCSF, to
gain first-hand field-research experience, and to work with children
on issues around health and physical activity.
Volunteers will be asked to attend one of the following hour-long
training sessions:
Monday, August 24th at 4:00pm
Tuesday, August 25th at 9:00am
Please contact the study coordinator, Hannah Thompson, at
thompsonh@... with any questions.
Thank you.
