Hello...
Thought I'd choose this support group, cuz I really don't want to read
anymore bad stories about Depo.
About 3 weeks ago, my 18 year old daughter came to me wishing to go for her
first gynocologist exam. She has been getting more serious in her
relationship with her 21 yr. old boyfriend, so I knew this would be coming
up. And had even told her to let me know if she wanted to go to the Dr..
So, we did some searching on the internet about birth control. And she chose
Depo for all the reasons you know.
After her decision, I found the horror stories, and did let her know about
the possible severe side effects. I'd say her chances are 50/50, and I
suggested to her that if bad side effects occured with her first injection,
then look into other methods.
So, she is 18, closer to 19 in 2 months. She is 5' 2" and 110 lbs. Very fair
skin, and red hair. She gets pretty moody and short tempered within a week
of her periods, but otherwise with family health history she's in fairly
good health. She does have some anxiety in her background thou.
Her gyno exam went ok, I guess, she didn't want me present. And the Dr. said
she could chose whatever birth control she wished.
This week she is IMpatiently waiting for her period to start so she can go
get her first injection.
This is my first time posting, you don't know me, and you may not hear from
me much again. But I think it's kindof sweet what is happening. They are
both virgins and planning their relationship out so well.
She's really nervious, of course, about how soon she is protected. The info
on the Depo site says immedietely, I read an article that said wait 7 days,
and the Dr. suggested waiting a month for her body to get used to the Depo.
Any comments, suggestions, experiences? Not really asking for medical
advise, just personal experiences.
Thanks for reading.
From a Mom. My name is Kelly
