Re: [hair extensions and dreadlocks] Newbie to the group!

Hi and welcome!

First of all remember that its still your hair and you should still keep some of
the same routines. Contact your stylist and ask their suggestion and follow it
for at least a month.

When you dry your hair let the water drain from it for 2-5 minutes before
sandwiching a section of hair with the towel. Then squeeze or press the
dreadlocks with a downward motion. Afterwards hair dry.

If you decide to color your dreadlocks you should get it professionally done.

Then there are excellent sites that have great products like Carol's Daughter,
Dreadlocks HQ and www.bellatwist.com. Olive oil is a good moisturizer and may
help with the flaking. There is a recipe at www.bellatwist.com
Congrats on your new hair!

glad I found this site through Hair Police where I got a
dread perm almost three weeks ago...New to the metro area also, so
trying to get to know some people! I am definately not savvy with
this site, so I'm sure the answers may be out there, but I'm not a
good navigator with this yet...so here goes...I need some help!

Ok, first of all, Can't wash the hair for a month (after the dread
perm) and whats the best stuff to use and how to I do it actually?
and how do I make sure the dreads get dry completely? I've heard some
horror stories about mildew and mold growind inside of wet dreads!
(that makes me paranoid!)
Aslo, the itchies! Oh my God! I've already used up all the peppermint
spray, the itchies are worst at night, I wake up and scratch like
crazy and I have dandruff everywhere! How do I help that??

Let's see, also wondering if any of you sleep in your hair styles
from the day and if that's ok, for instance, I had mine up in two
pony tails and slept like that..but I'm I suppost to take it out to
sleep, is it bad to sleep with hair tied up?

Hmmm,,, what else...eventually I would love to get my dreads
permanently colored, what's the verdict on that and is that hard?

thanks for all your help! I definately feel alone in dready world!

Its funny the last three weeks I've gotten plenty of stares wherever
I go, I feel like geez! what's the big deal! It's just dreads!

Can't wait to hear from somebody! looks like this is a cool site once
I can figure it out, thanks
julie
