I don't know. I'm in the Yagi line & we've always done the two separately.

I'm assuming that's the one. It is the one that my Sensei taught me.

Hello All,

Are we talking of the kata that starts out with the three sanchin steps then
into tensho? if so, this is the Tensho as taught in the Seito Goju of Miyagi
(Kei) Takashi, and also taught by Izumikawa and Higa lines.

Ohayo gozaimasu, doshi --

When I was at the Yamaguchi dojo in Nishi Ogikubo in the mid 70s I observed Gogen Hanshi performing this kata. Upon inquiry I was told he devised it from the two, Sanchin and Tensho.

My source, at that time, may not have been aware of any influence by Yagi sensei. I was also told that no one else was allowed to practice it.

Greetings

I have been a student from the Yagi Sensei lineage
for 11 years and my understanding is that Master Chojun
Miyagi was the creater of Sanchin Tensho.

Hi, from my understanding (and I may be wrong), I assumed that Sanchin-Tensho kata was 'devised' by the late Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi of the Goju Kai. The reason I made that assumption was that during the 70's I was taught by the following excellent Goju Kai instructors Vasi Naidu Sensei (now teaching and residing in Los Angeles), Stan Hart Sensei and Leo Lapinski Shihan (now teaching and residing in London), and it was there that I was introduced to this amalgamation of Sanchin and Tensho Kata's. I did not see it practiced anywhere else and in hindsight can only assume that it was devised by the Yamaguchi Goju Kai organization. Any other suggestions??

Best I know is that Yamaguchi Sensei learned Tensho kata and Sanchin kata from Miyagi sensei and Yagi sensei ( Meitoku ). I know for a fact that he attended classes with Yagi sensei in Okinawa & these two kata are done during each and every class. Sanchin is the first kata done and Tensho is the last kata done ( sort of a warm down ) Thus he would have been exposed to them at any rate. Perhaps he was the one who combined them. ( I've never seen this or done it myself ) For what it's worth Yagie Meitatsu hanshi tenth dan does them as two separate kata. This I am absolutely sure of as I have been in classes taught by him & this is how he did it.

.........................Tom....................
BTW Yagi Meitatsu is scheduled to come to Canada in April of this year. He will be doing seminars etc. at various places in Canada if anyone is interested.

Well, I know Shihan Frank Van Lenten used it, I had
not seen it anywhere else except in the Goshinkai Goju
Ryu schools myself, but I do know that Shihan Van
Lenten studied under Shinjo, Yagi, and Teguchi, so it
could even be one of theirs, I'm not entirely sure,
the next time I'm talking to my Sensei I'll have to
ask him.

Sanchin-Tensho, the combination of both together I
have not seen too often, my school uses it at the
reccomendation of my Sensei's Sensei(Shihan Frank Van
Lenten) I don't know when they were first practiced in
this manner. Mind you Sanchin is still practiced and
Sanchin-Tensho is just a longer way of performing
Tensho kata.

Sanchin was developed from Samchen by Miyagi Chogun sensei. He developed
Tensho himself for those of us who are older & less able to handle the
stress of Sanchin ( breathing & otherwise )

You are NOT the only one receiving such! I'm getting altogether too many of
them. I've complained & such all to no avail. I guess Yahoo doesn't care
about it's groups. I'm about to drop out if it continues as there isn't much
actual Goju traffic and I have young ladies who use this computer & I'd
rather not subject them to such. ( Yes I know that that is old fashioned of
me but there you are )

Dear Govender Sensei; This is going to everyone on the list. Looks like someone
lied to get on the list
and keeps sending this trash. I dont know why the owner of the list does not
kick them off the list.
maybe there is no one in charge of the list anymore. If it doesnt stop soon i
like many others will be leaving this list
 that for sure.
 thank you

Dear Friend,

It took us over a year and half to come to this, but
we finally did it. WE WON.

take a look at the pdf file located on my web page:

www.geocities.com/wabushi2001/wabushidojo.html

The pdf file is is the decision of The Honorable
Justice P.T. Matlow of the Superior Court of Justice.
The decision we had been waiting for all this time.

it speaks for itself...

(sample of what you will find inside the document...)

[17] In my view, the defendant (pat williams)
.....was able to use his personal skills to excercise
control over the plaintiff, to receive money and other
forms of payment from him and then to remove him when
the plaintiff no longer suited his purpose. What he
did to the plaintiff was a deliberate and carefully
crafted scheme to exploit their relationship and take
advantage of him.

[19] ......In my view none of the evidence given by
these witnesses could be trusted....they were
motivated by their collective determination to
maintain the authority of platt and the defendent and
to punish anyone including the plaintiff who had the
audacity to stand up to either off them. They
presented themselves as intolerant bullies and as
witnesses whose concept of the obligation to tell the
truth was secondary to advancing their collective
interests...

go ahead, read the file, it just gets better!!!

Sincerely,

Eaku Kata

I am hoping someone in the group can help me find resources and training in
the Okinawan Eaku (eiku, eku, etc). Last spring I was at a camp where we
learned the kata Sunakake Eakudi. I understand this particular version of
the kata came from the Yamane Ryu School through Saburo Kochinda.

After working on it since that time, it would be great to find someone in
the Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin) to further my traininig and
understanding of this great buki.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have a look at the web site for Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy, while he based here in Australia he does get around for seminars worldwide, and is a practitioner of Yamane Ryu Kobudo.
