Newsletter for January 2007 from Gojuryu.net

Onegaishimasu Mina-sama,
Happy 2007 - Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu. We hope you've all had a
sucessfull dojo or club Bonenkai and Shinenkai [year end celebrations
and to open the New Year with a fresh new start].

First up,
We recently hosted our first "Gojuryu Tomodachi Kenkyukai" in San Jose
for Northern California as hosted by Sabeters Martial Arts Center [SMAC]
and the All Gojuryu Network - gojuryu.net on January 20th 2007.
Attendance would justify the gathering as a sucess as there were ten
[10] different clubs representing seven [7] different Goju Ryu Karate Do
organizations. As Sensei Dan Taylor states in his report to the GKK,
"Most noticeable in our individual presentations, was not our
differences, but our similarities. Most noticeable in those present was
a conspicuous lack of ego as we earnestly endeavored to come together in
a spirit of friendship with a mutual understanding that we all are part
of the same Goju-Ryu family."

He further concludes with "The plan is a monthly get together with
different dojo's hosting. I see nothing but good coming out of this. I
have already made some new friends in just the first day. It is my
honest opinion that events such as this will help to insure a
preservation of Goju-Ryu in every aspect including both its historical
value and its future progress. I look forward to more events from this
Goju-Ryu Friendship Study-Group".

Knowledge and tradition:
A few new subjects come to mind when writing this months newsletter.
Where are you now?

> Why ask ourselves such a question? It is the New
Year and soon coming the Lunar New Year. This is yet another time of
personal transition, a time to again re-establish goals, review past
achievements, analyze under-performance from yester-year to not
duplicate our mistakes and re-commit to our training and comradery. A
difficult topic to discuss however this one is easily addressed. The
only question is what about your input? Drop in to the forums
<http://www.gojuryu.net/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=23&thread_id=620>
and let us know what is on your mind.

Knowledge and tradition is user submission generated. We were thinking
[then smoke came out of our heads and it started to hurt so we had to
stop and started writing instead] picture this; your buddie comes by
your dojo next Friday evening after class and wishes you a happy
Bonenkai and Shinenkai. Yes we gave it a brief and simple explaination
at the beginning of the newsletter however what if you didn't know?
Imagine just that extra piece of information, we've all had that awkward
moment where someone said something and we really didn't have a clue
however due to our Gojuryu Karatedo training and our Jedi mind tricks we
could play our way through the situation.

A few days ago I wrote to everyone "Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu" in
the shoutbox however returned to follow up with Happy New Year after
reading the private message saying "please don't mention this but what
is 'Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu'. That tells us that people are here
to learn and grow and that not everyone has the same amount of
information or access to such.

New Articles
User submission generated. If you've written something ask yourself 'is
this good enough to be published'? If so or if not doesn't matter.
Submit it! We'll review it and check to see what section it should be
published to. From there you're published. Knowledge not passed on is
knowledge lost. Also, did you know we will publish your poetry as well.
Poetry of the Martial Arts is insightful and provides just enough
intrigue to pique the interest of students and Sensei alike.

Point of View for Gojuryu: <http://www.gojuryu.net/forum>
The "Oooos! Ossu! Osssss!
<http://www.gojuryu.net/readarticle.php?article_id=40> " word. Over a
recent conversation we had the opportunity to speak about it and
everyone agreed that it was inappropriate however still a part of our
'dojo language'. We were even informed of two other articles floating on
the internet with similar clarification and equal reluctance to use the
term however the Oooos! Ossu! Osssss!
<http://www.gojuryu.net/readarticle.php?article_id=40> found in many
dojo continues to plague us. In a few dojo it is very normal to use the
terminology Ossu! <http://www.gojuryu.net/readarticle.php?article_id=40>
however it should be reserved for Boxing, MMA, 24hour fitness and
possibly Kyokushinkai but we have never heard such in very traditional
dojo [Iaido, Aikijutsu] and likewise should be the same in Goju Ryu
Dojo. What your thought? Find the thread here at Oooos! Ossu! Osssss!

In the Forums: <http://www.gojuryu.net/forum>
Please try to keep the subject matter focused and before starting a new
thread, always remember to start a "Search
<http://www.gojuryu.net/search.php> " because often the subject may have
been covered and you can add your input to help the others gain an
understanding of your thinking. Also, did you know you can watch
threads? Visit the bottom of the thread and click "Track this thread" to
receive an email notification when someone responds the subject.

Also in the Forums <http://www.gojuryu.net/forum/index.php> as well as
general membership [which is free], some day it would be great to hear
from the lurkers [people that have registered and have plenty on their
mind however nothing to say] in the Introduce yourself

Can you say growing and growing fast? At current rate we have more posts
and more subject matter than our Goju_Ryu Yahoogroup [end the year
2006]. We have no plans ever shutting down the Yahoogroups but are
having problems with spammers over there right now. We've also received
several messages asking questions about the forums and would like to
direct them to the FAQ's section. When there is a question and we don't
have an answer we make an answer and post it to the FAQ's.

It all helps and has been proven to help build the All Goju Ryu Network
family. Think of it like this - would you prefer those looking for a
dojo or club to join the local McDojo and their kids receive their 3rd
degree Black Belt with the pink tiger stripes as soon as they turn 8
years old? The Dojo Database & user profile is fully index searchable
via the search page and it's here for your use.

Knowledge and tradition:
KISS [Keep It Simple Sensei]
<http://www.gojuryu.net/readarticle.php?article_id=41> ; is a term long
used and seldom related. For teachers of Karate Do, it usually isn't in
our thoughts to tell students 'do as Sensei says, not as Sensei does'.
For all of you with your own club or dojo, think about it for a while.
We know our personal mistakes we make in our performances and we seek
perfection however we often forget that students both look up to Sensei
as well as look to Sensei for direction and correction. What Sensei does
may look correct to the student however if Sensei hasn't corrected the
student and let the student know to make appropriate changes to their
performance, then the student will not know what changes are needed.
Students return to training because they desire challenge. Push the
limit with simplicity, keep correcting those details, praise - correct -
praise, insert finer technical points then repeat. It's a great recipe
for sucess both on the dojo floor and off.

Additional site updates:
With approximately 2,400 online user - members and another 2,200 users
taking advantage of the free email service Gojuryu.net - the All Gojuryu
Network has a very skimpy calender of events just waiting for you to
self publish and get free exposure of your next function. Free
advertising, who could of imagined?

ALSO - When you send us a Gojuryu or Karatedo specific events, please
add it to the "Submit Event
<http://www.gojuryu.net/infusions/calendar_of_events_panel/submit_event.\
php?stype=e
> "at Gojuryu.net
<http://www.gojuryu.net/infusions/calendar_of_events_panel/submit_event.\

bit skimpy and we would appreciate your input.

All New:
Recently we were commissioned to reinvent the wheel. Because of our
close ties to The JKF Gojukai <http://www.jkfgojukai.net/> we have
helped create The JKF Gojukai Networking Project
<http://www.jkfgojukai.net/> located at JKFGojukai.net
<http://www.jkfgojukai.net/> . The fledgling 1st newsletter was released
on August 15th and will continue on a mid-month basis. Please note that
Gojuryu.net is and always shall remain independandt from the rules of
any organization, association or federation. We are only bound by our
user members and contributors. In the near future, The JKF Gojukai
Networking Project <http://www.jkfgojukai.net/> should have host pages
for each and every single dojo in affiliation of the JKF Gojukai,
including those in Japan and abroad; set up in a similar fashion as we
have here at Gojuryu.net <http://www.gojuryu.net/> .

It's been approximately ten years [including our Goju_Ryu Yahoogroup in
the Spring of 1996] that the internet has brought us together and we've
propogated Gojuryu Karatedo on a mass basis to the world blind of
demographics and crossing the lines of language, culture and location.
The times have offically changed and you should all be proud to be a
part of it. Congratulations and have a great 2007.

Well everyone, 'till next month - again from all of us at Gojuryu.net,
the All Gojuryu Network, Thanks for your continued support.

Arigato Gozaimashita.
