Mina-sama, we hope you have all enjoyed your Golden Week. "Golden Week"?
What's that you might ask - what is so 'golden' about it? Imagine having
a period of ten days filled with National Holidays and for some reason
you simply could not get your friends in Japan on the phone at home or
in the office. That's because it is Golden week. The period of holidays
that begin with April 29th [Greenery Day [however previously the
Birthday of the Emperor and in 2007 April 29th will become Showa day
with Greenery Day moving to May 4th, May 3rd [Constitution Memorial
Day], May 4th [Between Day – This is a day that is being phased out
in 2007 for Greenery Day, it's the day in-between Constitution
Memorial day and Children's day], May 5th [Children's Day - Kodomo
no hi]. Put them all together and you have Golden Week!

Dojo in the spotlight.
For the March 'Dojo in the month,' comes....... "The Oxford Karate
Academy" in the Cowley area of Oxford England [United Kingdom]. Under
the leadership of Paul Coleman Sensei a member of the JKF Goju Kai and
Seiwa Kai Goju Ryu Karate Do and previously a member of the IOGKF, The
Oxford Karate Academy is a very strong group with an excellent history
and pedigree. Congratulations !!!

Gojuryu.net Dojo Database:
Again, we cannot stress how important it is for everyone in
participation to complete as much as possible in your profiles. Some
have been curious about their personal information being available in
which case we recommend you do not put the address however you still
include your city, state or province, country and in the location field,
the name of your area [as an example if you were in Hayward California
you would write San Francisco bay area for the location however Hayward
for the City]. The Dojo Database & user profile is fully index
searchable via the search page.

Knowledge and tradition:
In 1933, Yoshiaki Ajari [JKF Wadokai Karatedo Federation and US Wadokai]
was born in Minato Mura Japan. Yoshiaki Ajari at the age of thirteen
began training with Shozo Ujita at the Kenbukan Dojo in Wakayama. He
later moved to Tokyo to continue studies at Meiji University while
training in Wadoryu and teaching at the Asakusa Dojo of Gogen Yamaguchi
earning the rank of Yondan. In 1957, Yoshiaki Ajari immigrated to the
United States to learn English at San Jose Community College and
continue his studies of architectural engineering at the University of
California Berkeley. While in San Jose he began teaching the Gojuryu
Karate Do he learned from Shozo Ujita and Gogen Yamaguchi in San Jose
and Hayward California. This marks the first official and confirmed
introduction of Goju Ryu Karate Do to the mainland USA.


Today, Yoshiaki Ajari Sensei still teaches Wado Ryu Karate Do in Oakland
California as an 8th Dan of the JKF Wado Kai and is a consultant to
several organizations and a great friend to many.

Next year [2007] will therefore mark the 50th Anniversary of both Goju
Ryu Karate Do and Wado Ryu Karate Do in the USA - a time of celebration,
reflection and remembrance.

photographic contribution for historic and copyright value; and the
backend of our servers which shall not be recognizable by the general
users.
