Re: [glutenfreeinwny] olive garden gf menu

Beth,
STAY AWAY FROM THE OLIVE GARDEN!!!!  You siad you are "new" to this...take it from me....I am the ultimate diner out in wny. The following places offer actual FULL gluten free menus at the tables and are awsome.
carrabbas
outback
Curlys in Lackawanna
Don Pablos- menu not in the resturaunt, you  have to see menu online and bring it w/you i think
thats what I do. I get mamas skinny enchiladas, bring my own nacho ships and dip in there cheese sause dip (queso). There chips are deep fried in shared oil so stay away from them. Also the chicken tortia soup w/o the tortias is great

Depending where I go I usually get chicken or crab legs sometime a steak sometime broiled seafood. I eat low fat .  I have spoken to the owners/managers at the following places and have inspected lables on things they uses. I have called the manufactures in many cases to get ingreedients identified to asure me im o.k with these products.

Oldman river and missississip muds - The grilled chicken is gluten free. so is corn on the cob
Montanas Cook house- the rotissiree chicken  is gluten free so is baked potato
Swiss Chalet- Rotissire chicken and Baked Potato
Western Door casino steak house in usa- crab legs and baked potato
Might Taco- Tons of stuff
Tim Hortons- Yougart parfait
Good luck. I just checked out your hero and sound link...very cool stuff. I do graphic design too (on the side just for fun)

A little FYI for everyone - I went to the Olive Garden on Walden last week and didnt know they had this "gluten free" menu.  So I did my best to find what I thought was gluten free - a simple chicken dish (chicken marsala with veggies and potatoes) it didnt say the chicken was breaded or coated and told my waitress to tell the chef that I cannot have any gluten or wheat, blah blah that I am very allergic and it makes me sick to my stomach. And also asked her if the chicken was breaded or coated and she said no, but shed make sure.  She also said she would make sure to tell the chef and that the meal I ordered was gluten free. So she was very nice and remembered to not put the croutons on the salad, etc.  Then my meal comes and since I am new to all of this -  I just assumed she did her job and the chef knew what he was doing and it was taken care of and if it had gluten in it they would have told me when i ordered it.  Meal tasted great, the chicken had a nice dark marsala sauce.  I only ate a small amount boxed the rest up and took it home.  Well the following day, I was feeling horrible and was sick to my stomach and I decided to take a real close look at the chicken I had eaten, and low and behold without all the sauce on it, it was actually coated in what looked to be flour.  HMMM!!!! I should have really really begged for her to make sure the chef knew it couldnt be breaded or floured or whatever - well lesson learned.  I will not be eating at Olive Garden again.  Also - I read somewhere that OG boils their broccoli in the pasta water?? anyone else heard this??
So thats my story and I surely learned that i have to be really really really specific about this at restaurants.

Personally I think Carrabba and outback have the idea and other big chains are beginning to follow their lead. Lets keep our fingers crossed.
