Dear Sir or Madam,
The Northern California Section (NCS) of the American Industrial Hygiene
Association (AIHA) is launching an initiative to address the lack of
adequate industrial hygiene resources for workers and workplace health and
safety professionals in developing countries. Our Section has a work group
of 15 people who will connect the technical expertise within our
organization with those who need it in the developing world. We are looking
for partners, both individuals and organizations, that have a similar vision
to improve health and safety in the developing world.
In this light, we are conducting a “needs inventory” of non governmental
organizations (NGOs), employee advocacy groups, universities, and
professional organizations to understand how our organization can help build
the skills, knowledge, technical capacity of our partners in the developing
world.
We are writing today to ask your opinion regarding:
1. Which countries in the developing world (including your own) have
the greatest need for support?
2. What types of support (such as technical books or journals,
training courses, technical information on specific hazards, on-site
technical assistance, and financial support) would be most useful?
3. In the countries or regions listed above, are there other
organizations (including your organization) that we could contact to join us
in this capacity-building effort (please provide name of organization and
contact name)?
4. Are there any existing or proposed capacity building projects
that our team could assist with?
Thank you for your response in advance. We hope that the AIHA-NCS can be
a valuable resource to providing assistance to achieve our common goal of
improved health and safety in the developing world. We would greatly
appreciate a response by June 12th, 2006.
If you have any questions regarding this information or would like to
discuss further, please contact me at pearlmoy1@... .
Sincerely,
Pearl Moy
