Subject: AIHA Committee Structure Revisions
Date: Fri, 6 May 2005 19:00:08 -0400
To all of our Committee and SIG members,
Industrial hygienists and other occupational and environmental health
and safety professionals volunteer their time, energy, and expertise
through AIHA's committees and SIGs. Committees and SIGs are a key source
of professional enrichment for our members and for information and
materials that support the IH profession. A strong system of Committees
and SIGs is needed to respond to the diverse areas that encompass the
OEHS profession and that system needs to have a sufficient number of
active professionals involved.
As you may have heard, the AIHA Board, at its Winter 2005 Meeting,
approved changes to how AIHAs Committees will be structured and governed
moving forward. A Task Force consisting of Committee leaders, AIHA Board
members and AIHA staff developed the changes. We have held town hall
meetings for Committee leaders, and they are aware and supportive of the
changes.
The key focus of the changes is to provide a structure that does not
limit participation and encourages participation at different levels.
Gone is the 30-person cap on Committee membership! Added is a
project-based membership approach! Hear about a Committee project that
interests you? Sign up and participate in that project! Want to be
involved in the Committee but cannot travel to meetings? Call in to the
Committee Conference calls! The changes, which will be fully implemented
in 2006, are summarized in the attached document.
I strongly encourage you to review the Committee Structure Highlights
and Committee Organization Template at

> over the next few weeks before AIHce. AIHA staff and Board members
will be at the Committee and SIG meetings in Anaheim to answer any
questions you have.
Thank you,
