I just had a client in her 40s who obviously has Irlen Syndrome. Lost her place,
then counted 15 Xs, for example.
She has had headaches daily for more than 20 years and has taken as many as 20
Aspirin daily. She also has arthritis in her face and finds it difficult to
tolerate glasses or a hat because of the pain. At initial mention, would not
consider contacts because she has had lasik surgery. (Had the light sensitivity
before the surgery as well.) Is very looks conscious in a high-profile job. I
suspect, like me, she needs time to process the idea that she has something
"wrong" that toughing it out just makes worse... and she'll someday be wearing
Irlen lenses or contacts! But if any of you have thoughts, chime in.
She is a hard-charging executive, very anxious, speaks in a clipped manner.
Never read for enjoyment as a child, claims to read for enjoyment now but also
feels great anxiety when faced with reading for work. (Felt anxiety during the
screening... and angry.)
My question: Any of you have arthritis in your face? I'm wondering if the Irlen
Syndrome may contribute to the arthritis?
