Hi JCD,
I have used Irlens contact lenses which were only tinted in the
centre, and also have problems with headaches under flourescent
lights. I also have other light sensitivities.
The contact lenses were tinted over an area large enough to cover
the entire pupil area, even when the pupil is large, in dimmer
lights. As light only passes through the pupil in to the eye this
meant all the light was filtered by the lenses. If your getting
contacts and your sensitive to U.V., bear in mind that U.V. filters
can not be added by Irlens, but Irlens can tint contact lenses which
already have U.V. filters in them. That's what they did for me. I
had to first send of for contacts with U.V. filters from a company
in california, and then send these on to Irlens.
I've tried Irlens regular glasses, contacts and wrap around glasses.
I found wrap arounds the best. Flat glasses were the worst (too much
light crept in from all around). Contacts were ok but didn't seem to
bring as much relief as wrap arounds. Also when my eyes got tired
they'd feel itchy, plus you can't sleep in them and it was a faf as
I need to rest regularly.
Hope some of this is helpful, All the best,
Tim
