Hi Mike, I also have flourescent and flickering light sensitivity, though my
colour sensitivity is to the colour yellow. I have changed all the light bulbs
in my house to day light bubs as the light is whiter, and less yellow. Could you
use bulbs in your restaurant with a subtle red tint? There are allot of on line
stores selling all sorts of light bubs. Look up window film on the internet too.
I've never used it but it is transparent coloured film that you attatch to
window pains, to subtely change the colour of the light passing through the
window, or to reduce the intensity. Like you I have tried Irlen lenses of
various shades, and the contacts too. I benefited from Irlen lenses and
gradually found the best tints. They made wrap lenses for me but they still let
in light from the edges. I then found mass produced Adidas elevation climacool
sun glasses (goggle style) which cut all periperal light out and come in a range
of lense colours. I found them good for being outside in. Try looking searching
for the gosportsspex website to see if they're for you. The only problem is they
do smear up a bit. Then I discovered Oakley water Jackets for evey day outdoor
wear, as they're very close fitting but don't smear or fog up. They come in a
couple of different tints. See www.oakley.com. I wish Irlen made lenses that are
more curved than they're current wraps so they could go in these types of very
wrapped frames. But check out the lenses that these sunglasses are sold in to
see if theres a lense there for you.
I've lost my Yahoo I/.D. passwords so am not sure if this will end up on the
forum but feel free to copy and paste it on, should you wish to.
Hope you continue to find improved coping strategies.
Best Wishes,
Tim

Tinted Contacts?
I have a severe case of fluorescent and flickering light sensitivity(movies,
strobe lights, crowded malls or amusement parks) that Irlenhelped me ameliorate.
I required a very dark red tint and triedwearing the glasses for 2 months at my
restaurant. Due to lightgetting in through the sides, the glasses provided about
50% benefitwhile causing a large amount of social anxiety and teasing.
Customershad strange reactions everyday and I had trouble getting my
bearingsbecause the tint was so dark. I eventually got my contacts whichcovered
my entire eye with no peripheral light getting in. While thecontacts provided
more benefit than the glasses 75-80%, I had adifferent set of tension headaches
because of the tint itself andtrying to see through red lenses all day. My depth
and detailperception were very restricted through red lenses. Also, the tintwas
visible to other people who were seeing a guy serving with redeyes. This caused
me a great deal of self-consciousness andembarrasment. While I recommend wearing
tinted contacts for thelights, it doesn't work with a dark color for too long.
Lightercolors will work really well though. Also, seeing red all day
wasaffecting my moods...irritability, depression, loneliness, isolatedfeelings.
Finally, the disequilibrium from the darker conditionsaffected my speech and
social interactions which I wasn't expecting. It's as if my vision was directly
connected to my speech and otherneurological functions. Today, I'm back to
wearing a hat and using anitro-glycerin ointment (Nitro-Bid). This is in
correlation tovasospasm (constricted blood vessels...restricted blood and
oxygenflow throughout body) which was diagnosed by Dr. Hammesfahr inClearwater
Florida. www.hnionline.com He treats conditions relatingto epilepsy, autism, and
other neurological impairments. He won anobel prize nomination for his work and
has helped me greatly. Thisis the only treatment that has really worked for my
fluorescent lightproblems. Feel free to call or email me to talk.
