I have a severe case of fluorescent and flickering light sensitivity
(movies, strobe lights, crowded malls or amusement parks) that Irlen
helped me ameliorate. I required a very dark red tint and tried
wearing the glasses for 2 months at my restaurant. Due to light
getting in through the sides, the glasses provided about 50% benefit
while causing a large amount of social anxiety and teasing. Customers
had strange reactions everyday and I had trouble getting my bearings
because the tint was so dark. I eventually got my contacts which
covered my entire eye with no peripheral light getting in. While the
contacts provided more benefit than the glasses 75-80%, I had a
different set of tension headaches because of the tint itself and
trying to see through red lenses all day. My depth and detail
perception were very restricted through red lenses. Also, the tint
was visible to other people who were seeing a guy serving with red
eyes. This caused me a great deal of self-consciousness and
embarrasment. While I recommend wearing tinted contacts for the
lights, it doesn't work with a dark color for too long. Lighter
colors will work really well though. Also, seeing red all day was
affecting my moods...irritability, depression, loneliness, isolated
feelings. Finally, the disequilibrium from the darker conditions
affected my speech and social interactions which I wasn't expecting.
It's as if my vision was directly connected to my speech and other
neurological functions. Today, I'm back to wearing a hat and using a
nitro-glycerin ointment (Nitro-Bid). This is in correlation to
vasospasm (constricted blood vessels...restricted blood and oxygen
flow throughout body) which was diagnosed by Dr. Hammesfahr in
Clearwater Florida. www.hnionline.com He treats conditions relating
to epilepsy, autism, and other neurological impairments. He won a
nobel prize nomination for his work and has helped me greatly. This
is the only treatment that has really worked for my fluorescent light
problems. Feel free to call or email me to talk.
