Hi Christina,
My Irlen lenses were prescribed by James Billet at Irlen Central England
(www.irlencentralengland.co.uk). I'm not sure which country you live in but
there are about ten centres in england that can be found at
(www.irlen.org.uk/IrlenCentres.htm) The lenses were made in California. I've
tried Irlen contact lenses, Irlen regular lenses and Irlen wrap lenses. I've
found the wraps most usefull.
The Irlen curved 'wrap' lenses have less light creeping in from above and
below than standard flat ones. I think the Irlen 'wrap' lenses only come in
one angle of curvature. I once bought frames with the wrong curvature and
the Irlen lense chipped as it was being put in. The angle of curvature is
called its 'base' and is represented by a number. The higher the number the
more curved a lense is. I think Irlen 'wrap' lenses only come with a base 8
curve. Most of the Oakley frames have this curve. I've experimented alot to
find the frames that cut out the most light from above and below for me
which fit these lenses. The ones that I've found fit to my face most snugley
are 'Oakley monster dogs' though I guess every bodies head is a different
shape.
The very best frames I've found for cutting out light from top, bottom and
sides are 'Adidas elevation' frames. They are very curved (base 12) so I
could not get Irlen lenses in them as Irlen wraps are less curved (base 8)
but they have breathable foam which stops light creeping in round the edges.
I bought these frames on the internet at (www.GoSportsSpex.co.uk). They come
with a selection of 2 types of lenses and they have other lenses you can
send off for. I find that their LST Trail Silver lenses help me with cloud
glare better than my Irlen lenses but are too dark for wearing indoors. My
Irlen glasses help me more around the house and for reading.
I bought the anti glare screen cover on the internet. I went to Kelkoo
(www.kelkoo.co.uk) and types 'Anti glare screen' in to the search and bought
one made by Fellowes. Theres a big price range but I think the one I bought
was less than 20 pounds.
I got the anti glare film from Johnson window films. It's a uk company and
the telephone number is 023 8045 4593 and it costs about 14 pounds per
metre. They make it in various shades which all cut out the U.V. I've tried
a sample against my window which seemed promising but I still need to fix it
on. I found out about the anti glare film by contacting my local association
for the blind and asking them if they had any ideas.
Good luck with it all,
Tim
