Hello everyone,
I found out I had Irlens three years ago when whilst doing my
university coursework I developed a severe pain behind my eyes which
painkillers didn't touch. I have had various irlen glasses and
contacts made and gradualy get more relief from the pain. It seems so
bixarre to me now that I didn't tell anyone that words, zebra
crossings and even pebbles on the beach look like there moving when
there not. I don't know if I the reason I didn't say anything was
more because I thought people wouldn't have believed me, or because
they would have told me I was mad or because I didn't have any idea
how other people saw things anyway. I felt a huge sense of validation
when I finally found out and for the first time in my life I could
communicate why school and many other things had been so unpleasant.
I wear different lenses for sun and cloud. I'm more tuned in to
which light conditions affect my vision for the better or worse. If
I'm walking along the beach on a sunny day, the moment the sun goes
behind a cloud the pebbles appear to start moving about and my eyes
start to hurt. If my eyes didn't start hurting when this happened I'd
marvel that clouds could have such an affect!
I live in england and am giving serious consideration to moving to
the south east of spain, as this is the most cloud free area of
europe. I don't really know anyone with Irlen syndrome. Is anyone
else adversely affeted by clouds? Has anyone else moved or considered
moving to a different area to find better lighting conditions for
thir Irlens?
