New member,
Not many states do recognize Irlen syndrome.
Things that may help: research articles or lists of research articles;
books; letter from well-qualified Irlen professionals; media articles or TV
shows
Some school system administrators want to see peer-reviewed research. See my
web site at www.readingandlight.com and click on research. Also check out
the research area of the www.irlen.com site (Irlen Institute site).
Run off copies of some of that info.
Also buy books about the subject. Somehow books look authoritative. :)
These can be purchased used thru Amazon or other sites often.
See books by Rhonda Stone, Helen Irlen and Arnold Wilkins (British).
Wilkins' book is published by a publisher that is very well-respected by
school psychologists. One leading researcher in academic testing that we
personally know did not think much of all this until Wilkins' book came out
a couple of years ago... because his favorite journals have had negative
articles about Irlen.
The way the Wilkins folks test and create lenses is a little different but
the premise is the same--that "reading through color" helps.
Ask the Irlen Institute about the videos they have of TV shows. Ask about
newspaper articles. Your Irlen person may also have some of these.
What state are you in?
Has your Irlen screener or diagnostician written a letter asking for
accommodations?
