Dear Law,
I've just found this chat room too. I've got Irlens and was diagnosed
nearly 2 years ago.
My tint is very dark so if all the colour filters had been put in the
filters there would have been times in low light levels I would have
not have been able to see at all. What I've done is had half the
filters put in my contacts, and the other half in my wrap arounds.
This gives me versatility in different light levels.
Wrap arounds are much better at cutting light out from the sides and
above than normal glasses and Irlen make curved lenses for wrap
arounds. I find contacts the best for screening all the light
including the sides etc.
Even whilst wearing contacts and wrap arounds I'm still bothered by
the glare from the sky so want frames which have some kind of shield
to block out the top of the sky entirely. Wearing a hat helps of
course, but I'd like to be able to go out without a hat sometimes. I'm
still hunting for these though.
I recomend getting retested because my Irlens tester said it's
advisable to be retested every year or so, or if you notice an
increase in visual distortions.
It's great to communicate with someone else with Irlens.
Good luck with it.
Tim
