Hi! Thanks to all who wrote to help me so far. I had a great
Thanksgiving and I hope you did as well.
My son has had his glasses about a week and he loves them. He calls
them his "magic glasses". His headaches have stopped and he is
reading longer. He is reading some smaller print than before although
he still prefers things to be enlarged some. He read his first
chapter book and is so proud of himself. For some reason the
principal is not much in favor of a presentation to his classmates to
explain to the other children. She said we should give it a couple of
weeks and see if it is a problem with the piers first. My husband and
I didn't agree but we decided to not buck this time. We are however
concerned that the teachers aren't always making the accomodations
that were given by the Irlen diognostician. They are constantly
griping at him for not finishing his work as quickly as the other
students and tell him "if the other students can do this you can to".
We are very frustrated and are talking about pulling him out of
public school and homeschooling. We talked to the school about
section 504, because the psycologist said he would classify, and they
said they didn't want to do 504 at this point and that he wouldn't
qualify any way because his grades were too high. Have any of you
tried to go 504 with similar circumstances and if so what were your
results? We aren't sure what to do now. But if hurts terribly for our
son to be so frustrated and sad with school. Would appreciate any
help.
Rita
