Hi everyone,
My husband and I appreciate the warm welcome we got from joining this
group. I want to let the group know that my son has been tested by a
diagnostician and we are waiting for his glasses to come in. They are
going to be a very intense dark blue. I can hardly wait to see how he
does with it. While listening to him answer questions in the testing
part we were shocked at some of his answers. Like "yes I see colors
just zoom by sometimes" and "the words just move sometimes when I'm
looking at a page. It's right there and then it's just gone". We have
not recieve the evaluation from the diagnostician yet but on the
recipt under diognosis there are two numbers. I called and asked what
these numbers meant and I was told that 309.9 was an adjustment
disorder and 315.0 was a reading disorder. Does anyone know more
info. about these numbers? It will be 2 or 3 weeks before the report
comes in and I'm dying to know more. You can post here or e-mail me.
It's really great to know I can discuss this with someone who
understands. I'm afraid I answered a lot of the questions (to myself)
as my son was being tested, and realize I could probably benefit from
being tested as well. I'm going to see how my son does first and then
when I have the money I may go too. My symptoms are different from
his but some are the same. I don't see colors on papers or the wall
that aren't suppose to be there but a lot of the time I see double of
the top part of the words. I always thought it was a bad printing job
till I started asking my husband if he sees it too. He doesn't. I
also see somethings on the computer in 3-D. When I asked my family if
they thought it was neat to see things in 3-D; they thought I was
crazy. I see things this way when there are lines with certain
contrasting colors.
Right now I'm going to concentrate on my son. I want to give his
class a little presentation on Irlen Syndrome so they will understand
and hopefully accept the different things changing about my son. They
laugh when the teacher gives him enlarged papers so I'm afraid it
will get worse when he has bright blue glasses and a cap on in the
classroom that nobody els is allowed to wear. Even the teacher is
having mixed feelings about the cap issue. If any one has info on how
to present this to a second grade class let me know. I think once the
children understand what it's all about they won't be so quick to
point and laugh. Well that's all that's going on right now so I'll
update more latter. Please let me know if you have any info on the
two mentioned questions.
Thanks to all for caring,
Rita
