Re: [Glimmer 'Colored Filter Glasses'] (unknown)

Sandra, thanks for the help. I did go to www.irlen.com and looked at
the list of names. The lady who screened my son is not on that list.
The list was a partial list so it may be that her name is not on it
because she works for the school district and does other things as
well. I asumed she wasn't certified because I didn't see her name on
the list for this web site. I called the school district office but
they didn't know if she was certified but they said she went to a two
or three day training at an Irlen center. They are going to get back
to me Monday with an answer. My husband and I are going to make an
appointment for my son with a diagnostician who is also a
phychologist. What are the normal charges for a diagnostician and do
you know if insurance normally covers any of the charges for this
service? Also do you know where I can buy the blue/gray overlays? He
was only given bookmarks. Thanks for your help it's greatly
appreciated.

difference between a screener and a CERTIFIED Irlen screener. I
actually would love to know the name of your son's school and the
woman conducting screenings (without being certified) because it's
illegal and dangerous and the Irlen Institute would like to inform
this person such facts. Second, an Irlen screener is only certified
to identify your child with Irlen Syndrome, letting you know if color
will help him. This person can suggest and provide your son with the
preferred colored overlay, but this person does not have the ability
to conduct the second part of Irlen testing where your son's
individual color is specifically identified for his lenses. Only an
Irlen Diagnostician is trained and certified to identify your son's
specific and individualized color combination for his lenses,
assumming that he needs them. For some individuals, the preferred
overlay color can eliminate most of their difficulties, but for most
people, the overlays are not specific enough to elminitate all of
their symptoms. A certified Irlen screener will be able to tell you
whether you should continue on with the process and see a
diagnostician for lenses. Most often, children are not screened
successfully until the age of seven, due to limited ability to
express their difficulties verbally before this age. However, for
children with severe Irlen syndrome, with distinct symptoms such as
headaches, it is often possible to identify them sooner.

information and a directory of diagnosticians in your area.
www.irlen.com You may also call the Institute's International
Headquarters directly for either a diagnostician or certified
screener near you.
