There used to be trees there. They were cut about 2 years ago.
But I would've thought it would have just not grown back in until the shade was
right, or it would've seemed "sun burnt". These were healthy looking plants.

Did there used to be trees there? Did someone cut down shade trees a year ago
or several years ago?

in the wild this weekend, and lo-and-behold, I found some Ginseng too. It was
in (what I'd consider) full sun. It wasn't in the middle of a corn field, but
there weren't any large trees shading it either. I'll get some pictures as soon
as I can, and post them on the website.
There were 9 plants clumped together, 3 nice 3 prongs. Could it not be as
sensitive to sun as we think it is?
