Hello, friends :) This devotional is from the book, "Food for the Hungry Heart - Daily Devotions for Overeaters". Whether you're an overeater or not, I'm sure we can all relate to this.
God bless you guys,
BK
"Then Elijah said to Ahab, 'Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.' " 1 Kings 18:41
How often do we wish the God would zap our problems as miraculously as He did in Elijah's time! Elijah prayed that it would not rain, and it did not rain for 3 years. King Ahab and all those who ruled were punished for the evil they did.
When the punishment ended, "Elijah prayer again; the rain came and the earth yielded its fruit." One prayer and the rain stopped; another prayer caused it to start up again - a miracle.
In our own battle with food, we may wish that a miracle would make our weight go away. We do not want to have to work at it. We do not want to have to change what we are doing.
God does not want us to suffer. He wants us to learn. We did not put on the weight overnight, and it is not going to come off overnight. It takes time to unlearn bad habits. Do not despair if it seems as if your goal weight is impossibly far away. The journey itself may yield more rewards than reaching the end.
The quick fix may seem like the ideal answer, but it took three and a half years for rains to fall again. During that time the people turned back to God.
Don't concentrate merely on the end of your diet, but on what God has in store for you along the way.
Prayer: God, it is exciting to know that You have plans for my life. Help me to trust You as I give my life to You.
"The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing."
Psalm 34:10
