Hello, 59 members! Praise God! I get excited every
time this group grows. It's pretty amazing! Thanks
for spreading the word :)
Here's a devotional for you:
"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for
you" (1 Peter 5:7, NIV)
Some days we could gather up bundles of worries,
questions, and sins all frayed from receiving such a
workout. But, God commands us to turn all of our cares
and trials over to Him. There is a keyword that tells
us exactly how to conduct the transfer of our cares to
Jesus. Very specifically, we are told to "cast" our
cares on Him.
Cast is an active verb. God wants us to forcefully and
deliberately throw our troubles and cares at Him. God
is always ready and waiting to receive our miserable
care package.
Have you ever watched a fly fisherman? There is no
hesitancy, no reluctance. Casting a fishing line is a
powerful and decisive action accomplished with a quick
flick of the wrist. Once the line connects with the
surface of the water, it is energized and ready to
accomplish its goal.
Just as the fly fisherman's line is thrown with
decision and direction, we also need to take our
worries, cares and weights and give them a determined,
resolute fling in the direction of Jesus. Then we walk
away with no intention of retrieving anything from the
care bundle. It now belongs to Jesus to swoop up for
gentle disposal, patching, or complete replacement.
There is no better way to deal with troublesome
occurrences in our lives.
Those of us with chronic illness have an added amount
of care and anxiety. Casting our cares on God is not a
singular event. Life is full ongoing burdens, worries,
hurts, pain, and sin. Our goal is either total
elimination or a solution for our troubles. God stands
ready to catch our continual flow of anxiety. We need
to hone our skills at casting directly at Him. God
wants to know we are serious about giving up the
burdens to which we may have been clinging.
"Search me, O God, and know my heart, test me and know
my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way
in me, and lead me to the way everlasting" (Psalm
139:23.24, NIV)
