I once tried the vinegar as well and it wasn't pretty. After
participating in some online groups, I've formed the opinion that
there are some folks that are suffering from a lack of stomach acid
and they generally get similar symptoms to acid reflux and hence
everything is lumped together as GERD. This typically occurs in older
people. And then you have the folks whose LES just isn't working
properly for whatever reason (hiatal hernia, extra weight, etc.) and
more acid certainly isn't the answer. I'm no medical professional and
I don't have studies to back me up, this is just what I've gathered
from my reading. My sisters, mom and grandfather all have/had hiatal
hernias as well. I think extra acid is the last thing we need. In my
experience, diet changes, losing weight, raising the head of my bed
and using antacids has been the key for me to get better.
