Occasionally, right after I've eaten a meal I start to choke a bit and
cough and I feel the sensation of phlegm in my chest. After a short
strong cough or two or three it clears. It feels just like you have a
chest cold and there is phlegm that either needs to be cleared by
coughing or bringing it up.
I never had this happen before (unless I had a chest cold). It seemed
to start after I was diagnosed with GERD.
As I recall, it happens right after a normal meal (not the small,
frequent meals that we're supposed to eat). The normal meal that I had
when it happened was mashed potatoes (no gravy, butter, or cream on
it), a broasted chicken breast and cooked green beans, I believe.
So far, it's been happening very infrequently but it concerns me
because I don't smoke and I don't have a chest cold.
I think that I mentioned it to my doctor, once, but he didn't comment
on it.
Do you smoke? That can cause a huge problem with phlegm (mucous).
