Perhaps I should have said controlled and not cured. We all will have
some level of heartburn even when we try to do everything right--we
will foul up and eat too much, too spicy or too in combination.
Now to your question. When the body is in the healthy digestive
state, the stomach is in the receiving mode, producing acids to
process the food we ingest. This higher level of acid triggers the
closing of the sphincter controlled valve to prevent reflux of food
and juices. My heartburn and GERD was caused by low volume of acid,
so when I introduce vinegar (white), it triggers the closing of the valve.
Your reaction to cider vinegar may not have had anything to do with
GERD or heartburn, or your overall conditions resulting from the
corrosive action of these two body actions may be so advanced that
other approaches need performed before vinegar would help reverse the
control back to you. I can only attest to what I did to solve my
problem and since anyone can obtain white vinegar from almost any food
store I thought it worth sharing. BUT, at the same time I changed my
night meal eating habits to milder foods, less water intake, no
carbonated drinks ever, no other combatant medicines for acid, and no
food after 6 PM.
After nine years of suffering, I now have control and have had for
four months. I can travel without a bag of OTC medicines and large
bottles of Rolaids. I still have to watch what I eat, particularily
at night meals.
