Description

Welcome to the Georgia Trackers Alliance message board. This is a forum for discussing tracking and organizational topics relevant to the Georgia tracking team's general membership. GTA is a non-profit corporation formed to meet the mission and objectives described here, with a target area of the Southeast United States.

The objective of GTA is to develop a regional team of tracking professionals that will make themselves available for SAR and Police actions. Our membership is comprised of SAR professionals and outdoor specialists in the greater Georgia area who want to increase their own tracking skills. Not all members may make themselves available for emergency callouts or choose to dedicate the time necessary to acquire a level of skill that would support participating on a team in an emergency callout. These members are still an important part of the group and all types of tracking interests are welcome in GTA.

As many have said many times and in many ways, tracking is a perishable skill and many believe the skill can and has passed from certain societies in a single generation. A secondary objective of GTA is to support the growth of tracking skills in contemporary society to help safegaurd the skill for future generations.

Regarding our logo: "The track in the middle of our logo represents the person we are tracking. The fact that the track is diagonal to the Big Dipper and the North Star means that this person is off their chosen path or “lost”. The Big Dipper pointing to the North Star is representative of our ability to navigate in nature, if we earnestly and deliberately practice tracking skills. The bear track in the green border at the bottom of the logo represents us, the trackers, and it suggests we will boldly and tenaciously pursue our subject through any environment with patience and perserverance."
