We saw the (often very) judgmental ways in which clients described their own behavior and the other participant's behaviors in the group as CRBs. And their descriptions evoked CRBs from the other clients. This has been a very interesting process in all FAP groups I have been involved up to now. And it leads to lots of in-vivo learning oportunities.

 

I wonder: Would giving the clients the CRB list inhibit this process? On the other hand, I think that giving them your lists with non-judgmental definitions of CRBs may be interesting for another reason. It will evoke a lot of CRBs: Think of a client who will rigidly stick to the language in the list. Another client may reject the list out of hand, or criticise it, etc. And all of that may be clinically relevant.

We haven't started the group yet. It is being
discouraged by a slow IRB proposal process. I am
a bit anxious becuase my post-doc ends in June and the
group is set for 16 weeks. I don't know that I will
show the clients the CRB1 list so as not to overwhelm-
it is more a frame of reference. I will see. I just
wanted to have some samples for clients about the
things that we will address in group.

I think it will be a bit of a challenge to get clients
to be able to observe/ describe in group behavior and
to start to get the idea of identifying CRB1's/ CRB2'.
I plan to spend a lot of time doing validation
strategies and accurate reflection/ description of
behavior before getting to "work".
